Wait, what did they do to Wesley Crusher in Earthshock? I don't remember him in there, at  all.

Aw come on people. I really liked Adric. Earthshock was one of my favorite Doctor Who shows as it's both excellent and very sad. Plus I watched it on BBC in England the year it was first broadcasted.

AirForceVet: I really liked Adric

I think the hate directed at Adric outstrips what he deserves, but Adric was  not a good character, especially the way he was written and acted. There was nothing inherently wrong with the concept, but the execution... yeesh.

The problem was actually budget and demographics. The producer needed to cut one companion and the other two were female. Adric was the extra baggage

Phooey! I liked the Sixth and Seventh. I loved Ace. Peri was entertaining for her remaining time, too. Sabalom Glitz was a fun character. And Brian Blessed as King Yrcanos was inspired and enjoyable.

Now, I will say that there were some stinker episodes during that era, and that some characters like Mel were unbearable, but those minor quibbles weren't enough to completely ruin the show.

Seeing Adric grown up is weird. Mostly because it immediately pinged by gaydar and after a cursory Wikipedia check... yep. I think it's the hair that screams it.

are they going to go with the 'silent credits' to give solemnity to the exit of adric?

Earthshock is a must for anyone who wants to see what the Cybermen were like as worth while villains. They used to plot and scheme, now they're just an elaborate infection. The new ones are wholeheartedly lame beyond the telling of it.

It'll be one that's on Netflix.  That's the trend I'm seeing.  And I think that Ghost Light is one of the few (if not the only) 7th Doctor shows on Netflix.

I'd rather see Dragonfire.

Speaking of Alexander, I just realized that the actress who played his mom, Suzie Plaxton, plays Marshall's mom on How I Met Your Mother. I always thought she looked familiar, but it never bugged me enough to IMDB her.

Agreed.  It's hard having a character like Adric in a show like Dr Who because The Doctor is already smarter than everyone in the freaking universe.  Had there been a mentor/student relationship between them it would have made for a better arc, but instead we got arrogant whiny brat who constantly needs to be put in the corner.

It was interesting. Could really see the Star Wars influence. Thank goodness the production got more professional and higher quality from the 10th Doctor onward. 9th and earlier are interesting but there is this level of unbelievable cheesiness.

Nail on the head, right there. I cannot stand the Cybus Industries Cybermen. And, until Nightmare in Silver, Cybermen stories in NuWho were amongst my least favorite. Gaiman bringing back the Mondas Cybermen was well executed, even if they weren't quite as menacing as the Classic Cybermen.

2013-05-27 08:53:56 AM
Oh, and 7th Doctor story they SHOULD do is either Ghost Light or Battlefield. If they do Greatest Show in the Galaxy, the commercial breaks need to be Sylvester McCoy simply saying "I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry" for the entire break.

I still love the story about Matthew Waterhouse getting blitzed during the filming of Castrovalva, and throwing up during a scene after he's freed from the Master's influence. A great "Throw it in" moment. The commentary on that episode on the dvd is hilarious.

They should have done more with his genetic history. His people evolved from giant spiders, so why not give him some spider-like powers? I'm sure plenty of people would have loved to see Adric drop his pants and shoot webbing from his ass.
