If someone intentionally did that, they, and the next twenty generations of their family, would feel the full force of the wrath of the French family.

You know, when I wrote that headline I figured someone would be an ass about it.

Fine.

THE BEST DAY IN MOTOR RACING.

I seem to remember Tony Stewart and someone else (maybe Robbie Gordon?) doing it a few years back. They had to be given IV fluids en route and they had to have a starting driver then they'd switch out the driver when he got there. Got to be a LONG freaking day to do that.

Sanjay Gupta did a special on endurance athletes and mentioned some losing like 12 pounds or something from doing the double, saying it was one of worst things.

The double also much more problematic when they changed to Daylight Savings Time in Indy...used to be that the driver had an extra hour to get back to Charlotte.

They also had to start at the back of the pack, regardless of where they qualified, because they missed the mandatory drivers meeting.

The Catch Fence ™ @TheCatchFence

I really don't know why open-wheel racing doesn't have a higher standing in the world of American motorsports than it does.

I really hate to say it, but derpNASCARderp that's the reason -- I love it -- but I'd love to see Indy get more recognition

People in the other thread mentioned the IRL/CART split as a reason open wheel lost popularity. I'd have to agree. I didn't follow it much back then.

DW just said they should have GWC in Indycar. He is wrong.

Mikey just said NASCAR has the most exciting racing in the world. He is wrong.

Is it something in their genetics that makes them so consistently wrong?

It's a long day of racing, but I do believe it's beer o'clock.

Damn it. Fox should give spoiler warnings when they show race results from something that went off at four in the farking morning. I hit the button like the freaking Flash. They'll probably do it again though.

I wish it wasn't so nice outside. I feel guilty being a couch potato when it's sunny, no wind and the ocean is flat. I just got me a kayak.

I don't have anything against (no spoiler) winning the way that he did, but another restart (or 2) would have been alot of fun.

Call me totally wrong too then. The right guy won the race but you will never make m believe that the ending was as exciting as it would have been had TK needed to hold off everyone else at 215+ mph. A full speed finish beats a yellow flag finish every single time and to think otherwise is, to me, ignorant.

The Indy 500 finish was both exciting and a disappointment (and Dario is the one to blame for the disappointment part). That race *should* have ended with TK having to fight off the other 5 drivers who had a real chance of going for it (to include Marco Andretti trying to purge the Andretti Indy 500 curse once and for all and a rookie doing his damnedest to win).

I've never been a fan of yellow flag finishes in any motor sports. But I also understand that not everyone would want the GWC either. The only thing that everyone gets wrong is that this is the most exciting racing in the world.

GWC is too manufactured. The Indy 500 is the Indy 500. Not the 507 and a half. TK has lost due to yellows like that. I think it's great that it went down the way it did. He drove the hell out of that car, he won and it was the best yellow flag finish ever.

At Laguna Seca we have the "Rolex Motorsports Reunion" every year during Concorse de Elegance at Pebble Beach. There's Mecum auctions downtown, Cool car events all week all around the peninsula. The Reunion is a historic race, cars are between 30 and 120 years old, different classes and division. It's great. Point is, the flyover is a local guy who has a Ford Tri-engine he restored. Takes forever for that thing to get past us.
