Turns out civilians might be worse than the cops?

Oh hey, it's this guy again. Wouldn't be a Fark cop thread without Begoggle around to explain why the cops did nothing wrong (in-between ball-gargling. scrotum-slurping noises).

Considering that in this situation, the cops were the Rhodes scholars who decided 'yes it is perfectly reasonable to let civilians drive around in police cars, what could possibly go wrong?', this is indeed their fault (along with the meatheads on the council). The civilians shouldn't have acted like dicks either, but they never would have been in a position to do so if the cops/city council weren't pants-on-farking-head retarded.

Think I'll reserve my disdain for the ones that should know to uphold a higher standard and still fail.  Thanks for your concern, though.

I guess too many years in the military rubs off but I always chuckle when I see the police referring to others as civilians. You're all civilians to me unless you're in the armed services.

Fano: doczoidberg: Um, I just got an autoplay ad in this thread (not the article, but this exactly thread, on Fark).

Do I need to stop coming here?

I know on the mobile site there is a link to report ads

The fact that I have had to report ads in the past is why Fark never gets that Adblock whitelisting it so desperately begs me for.

Ni: Most of the laws are written to exclude police, if there's any semblance of being on duty.

[citation needed]

Not that I'm a fan of the police but, well, I am a fan of honesty and factual information.

There is a reason why Rome forbade uniformed soldiers within its walls. And a reason the Roman Republic became the Roman Empire when Augustus marched his army through the gates.

Conveniently forgetting Marius, Sulla and Caesar, not to mention that there was no such thing as a "uniformed soldier" in Rome of that time.

I think you're missing the point.  We don't require uniformed overlords.

There's a reason the police are considered civilians.

A wise man once said: the military fights the enemies of the state, while the police serve and protect the people. And when you use the military as police, the people quickly become the enemies of the state.

The same applies if you use the police as military.

Yes, they are.

From wiki:

In US parlance, a civilian is also considered one not on active duty in the armed services or not on a police or firefighting force.

I guess it's just my personal hangup then.  But not active duty = civie.

Yeah not sure when that came into common parlance. Probably started around the time Nixon declared war on the hippies, brown people and poor. Reagan probably helped step it up a bit too. Generally reflective of the militarization of the police force.  Not a good thing, the cops ARE civilians. Even though the law gives them preferential treatment they are still subject to it. Though obviously the importance of this distinction is being forgotten in the name of people being scared of their own shadow.

This. I'd start with the best intentions while trying to uphold the law and protect the community...but within a week I'd be flashing my sirens to get through mall traffic and arresting anyone who looked at me funny, wears jeggings or sports a barbed wire tattoo.
