Investigators are trying to determine what led to the fatal mauling of a zoo worker by a tiger in northwest England, police said Saturday.

Sarah McClay, 24, died after being attacked Friday by a Sumatran tiger

It doesn't seem there's much left for them to do...

They're not going to kill it.

I got a chance to play with some baby tigers a few years ago.  One of them got a little rough, and I thumped him on the nose and said "No!".  He pulled his head back and looked me right in the eye, not intimated one bit.  Even at only a couple of months old, those things knewexactly what they were:  apex predators.  The look he gave me clearly said, "Come back an see me in six months, food".

That's awfully sensible of them. Don't they realize that people can never be held accountable for their own stupidity?! Someone else (or something, in this case) has to be at fault!

A properly fed and socialized Tiger doesn't normally kill people in it's social group.  Tigers are not some unthinking killing machines.

Harry_Seldon: Tigers are not some unthinking killing machines.

OK, try to imagine yourself in the big cat enclosure. You get your first look at this pussy cat as you enter a clearing. He moves like a house cat, lightly, bobbing his head. And you keep still because you think that maybe his visual acuity is based on movement like T-Rex - he'll lose you if you don't move. But no, not Sumatran tiger. You stare at him, and he just stares right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side.

YAY FOR COMMON SENSE! YAY FOR LIVE TIGERS!

Thanks for the link, I hate stories like these ever since they killed off that meerkat colony because of some stupid brat and state rabies laws.

Tigers don't usually kill people in their social group because their social groups generally consist of tigers.

I know what you meant, but my point retains validity I think. Tigers aren't domesticated, this sort of thing is to be expected to some degree. Still sucks, though.
