What's the deal with you people and your tactical umbrellas? Why in god's name do you need a spring-loaded canopy that is deployed by pressing a button? Umbrellas of old never had this and really all you need is a simple manually-operated umbrella, unless of course you're compensating for your micropenis.

Cue up the foot tapping... in the stall.. with the dress shoe.

Seriously, when are they going to start fining the living hell out of these assholes that keep reporting umbrellas?  It is not like an umbrella is a brand new gadget, fresh off the slow-boat from China, with groundbreaking tech that confuses the hell out of people (apparently been around since 3000 BC so we should be used to them by now).

The other day i saw a guy open carrying a pistol while on his motorcycle, straight through the center of the state university. Not a single person gave a shiat and even blinked an eye. the exact same occurrence on the east coast would have caused a menstrual implosion with deployments of swat teams and school shutdowns and CNN coverage. but here, its totally normal.

I initially believed the image to show his finger through the trigger guard, but following a closer inspection I believe that his finger is actually laying beside the trigger guard, and a lack of clarity in the image has created the false illusion that he has his finger through it instead.

Even if he is maintaining proper trigger discipline, however, the man depicted in the image nonetheless appears to be a "douche bag".

You are absolutely correct. The lax firearm carrying laws of New Jersey are the cause of this occurrence; absolutely no blame should be applied to civilian disarmament advocates who willfully lie about firearms in a deliberate effort to incite irrational fear.

Or alternatively a fan of the amusingly goofy yet somewhat obscure Papa Schimmelhorn series of science fiction books mainly from the 60's and 70's by Reginald Bretnor: The Gnurrs Come From the Voodvork Out etc etc.  Silly as hell, basically parody, but good parody.  Papa's wife constantly threatens him with "der bumbershoot" being poked into various places for being an unrepentant old horndog (whilst his subsconscious genius invents stuff that invariably is crazy high tech - think about at the 'indistinguishable from magic' level - that saves the day for himself and others.  And gets him in bed with all sorts of hot young women ("pretty pussycats" in Schimellhorn-ese.)  Papa saves this world, other planets, and various magical weirdos on a regular basis thusly - despite the fact that other than his subconcious genius he's not really terribly bright at all.  Well worth reading if you're cool with that level of silliness in a series when it's well done.

Yeah, kinda a derail but a strangely relevant one I'll claim.  Who the hell gets to honestly write a plug for something like that in a thread about idiots mis-identifying weapons FFS?  Couldn't pass that chance up when it came!

It also appears to be equipped with a splash suppressor.

No, but in Basic Training I was taught that the gun is always loaded until proven otherwise, especially when it has the appearance of such.

I was also taught that when I was 10 years old and attended the TWRA hunter safety class that was mandated for me to take to get a hunting license.

And was reenforced in every class I've ever taken in CCW and street survival.

But yes. Let's pretend that I'm trying to be the next FLYNAVY by pointing it out.

Magazine in the action? It's loaded until you clear the gun.

And after you clear the gun, it's STILL loaded.  Firearm is always loaded as far as safety purposes - also learned from every sane gun safety source I've ever participated in/come across starting with my grandfather when I was 9.  So yeah, I don't give a damn either what the situation may be, you keep your finger away from the damn trigger and the firearm pointed in as safe a direction as can by had until you are ready to fire the damn thing.

No exceptions - ever - cause that's what gets people hurt and killed that one time out of a hundred when something goes wrong or you forgot something.

/you willing to bet the life of a friend, family member, or poor random SOB in the area around you that this isn't that one time when shiat will go wrong?  Is that EVER a good idea when you really think about it?  Any time you start in with any variation "Oh well in this situation it's ok to brush off safety rule X" you are just placing a bet that it won't be you that it happens to.  This'll be cold comfort at the funeral.

Went to a gun store today to purchase a revolver.  While I was there, the clerk turned on the laser pointer on another gun and aimed it at a co-worker across the room.  I loudly called out the clerk on the stupidity and irresponsibility of this action.

The owner was there, over heard it, and fired her on the spot.

Also, you're an idiot who shouldn't be allowed to be around guns, assuming you're old enough.

Ended up buying a Ruger SP101 .357 magnum.

I'm torn. On one hand, I see and know many people who have never been involved in a crime, who are responsible in their handling of firearms, and don't act like having a gun on their hip makes them Rambo.

Looked at a few of those.  Only complaint is that I don't like how the magazine looks protruding out of the grip.  Just looks off/wrong.  Might get one eventually, though.

Though, I'm tempted to get a ridiculous old fashioned or Fear of God revolver at some point.  Like 13" in length moronically long.   Maybe a Ruger Redhawk...

[whynotboth?.jpg]

I love my Hi-Power. It's an absolute tack driver. I could do without the mag safety though. Will removing it facilitate magazines dropping free? The only things I will probably modify on it are getting new grips and putting an extended thumb safety. Otherwise, it's like Browning was working with a mold of my hands when he designed the Hi-Power. The one thing I don't understand is why Hi-Powers don't come with an extended beavertail, not that I have a problem with hammer bite.

I've already field-stripped, cleaned and lubed my 1911 to shoot tomorrow. No idiot mark!

Between that and the next 3 comments which where all YOU for a total of 4 comments in a row, and considering the "quality" of the posts I must come to the conclusion that you where too drunk to remember to change into all your alts for each of those comments.

It's the terrorists who are winning.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that such a thing could happen in the paranoid environment created by "reasonable" gun control advocates.

And you guys want to own these things?

BarkingUnicorn: This is why umbrellas should all be pink.

Subby, if you're not British then you must be a fan of "Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos." I've never seen "bumbershoot" used anywhere else on this side of the pond.

The old Quick Draw McGraw cartoon series had a character named Bumbershoot Bam who went around smacking bad guys with a brolly (now there's a term you don't here on this side of the Atlantic).

When your mother was pregnant with you, how much paint thinner would you say she generally consumed during the course of an average week?

About half of what your mommy chugged. I'll send you a coloring book all about it so you can attempt to keep up.

Yes that is an armored combat shotgun umbrella.  Every maid should have one.  Also the TSA should never allow someone who is carrying a briefcase to board a plane ...

Gotta be safe about this.

The only thing Black Lagoon proves is that men need background checks and licenses to date a woman

God damn i love my state.

Wow. Loaded weapon AND finger on the trigger. Sgt. McAvoy is a dumbass.

It figures you'd be the idiot to say something like this.

The gun may or may not be loaded, there is no way to tell from a picture.
His finger is not on the trigger.

Reminds me a couple years ago of my uncle getting his hunting rifle worked on at a nearby shop, then picking it up and walking two blocks home to his place with it... the cops stopped him just about the time he got to his driveway, saying that they received 5 separate calls in the past couple minutes reporting him.  Of course he was licensed to carry it and the gun was unloaded, and he was breaking no law whatsoever, but people are so panicked these days at the sight of a gun... something that never crossed his mind.

I was listening to him talking to my other uncles over the weekend of how they'd take their guns to school (unloaded) during the day, so that they could go pheasant hunting after school.  It was totally normal.  Someone would see a kid walking down the street with a gun (in a little "city" in NY with 50,000 people, mind you, not exactly a little rural hamlet), and think "oh, he's going hunting" not "oh, he's going to go try to kill some people".

Maybe we should stop blaming guns, and instead focus on how we're making peoples' lives so miserable that they want to shoot people.  The ones that want to shoot people, I mean - not the ones just trying to stay out of the rain.  We're clearly doing something wrong.

High school ROTC rifle team members in 1989-93 at my old high school walked to the flag in the mornings with their rifles and live rounds in their pockets, to put up the flag.  They did the same thing at the end of school to take down the flag.  Yet oddly, they didn't shoot anybody.

I know of three highschools in the Portland metro area that have shooting ranges built in.  Because not so many years ago they had shooting teams and it was a sport just like baseball.

Apparently the concept that it was once a grade requirement in high school Rotc for a cadet to fire a rifle once on the rifle range in the gym building, at least at my old school anyway, escapes people.
