I can see where you could make the distinction.

Libertarianism has always kind of smacked of "The problems are big and hard, but if we just say 'not our problem, take care of it locally yourselves' it's way easier and requires less work!"

And 10 years later, more than 1,200 activists have already moved there, with roughly 13,000 others pledging to follow after the 20,000 sign up for the so-called Free State Project.

Which is sadder
1,200/1,321,718=  0.091% of New Hampshire's population
or
That it has taken 10 years to get 1.200 activist to move
or
That 13,000 of these rugged individualists can't move unless 20k people agree with them.

Or that thier mindset is that they just want a number large enough to impose its will on an overwhelming majority who aren't like-minded.

That little Patriot's gonna have a stroke before he's old enough to vote.

That is seriously awful.  No one that young should be that pissed off.  I bet his parents are proud.

A libertarian government would be absolutely the best possible way to govern a nation...  as long as your population density maxes out at around 1 or 2 people every square mile with a fairly even distribution (for example, one big city in the middle of the US would need more governmental structure).

Also liked the comment about 20,000 banding together for individualism, no irony there.

New Hampshire won in a 2003 online vote.

Getting 1200 Paultards to move to your state with the promise of thousands more joining them in order to build a libertarian utopia is how some people define "win" now?

Ugh, this Libertarian remembers reading that article.

We're only good in small doses, as far as I'm concerned. I'll be watching from MA, thanks.

The fark does a ten-year-old know about how the world works (read: how people work) to so viciously support a political candidate?

We have a local group of Libertarian kids on campus here.  They stole a Banksy image as their club logo for their shirts and shiat.

I asked who made the logo and one of the members told me it was created by one of their own.

I told him that was bullshiat, I recognized the image and the artist because I know street art.

He argued with me before he was corrected by another one of the members.  Finally, they stated it was an image taken from Banksy.

I asked him what the Libertarians stand for.  He told me they recognize:

Peace
Freedom
Private Property

I asked him if they contacted Banksy for permission to use his art as their logo on shirts and stickers that they sell.  Or, if private property only mattered for other people?

The members then stood with their arms crossed and repeated, "We're here to answer questions about Libertarians, not art".

"So you guys aren't going to answer my questions about stealing someone else's work and property for monetary gain?"

"We're here to answer questions about Libertarians, not art".

"Dude, c'mon, just say you farked up and took the image because it looked cool".

"We're here to answer questions about Libertarians, not art".

"You realize that Banksy has made his entire career from destroying and defacing both public and private property, right? Doesn't it seem odd to use his images as your logo?"

"We're here to answer questions about Libertarians, not art".

"Man, you guys are politicians, aren't you?"

"We're here to answer questions about Libertarians, not art".

*walk away*

This reminds me of the White Supremacists' efforts to move to the Pacific NW to establish a White Homeland.  I mean, it reminds me in the sense of being fkn retarded

"We're about individualism, not collectivism," Gericke told New Hampshire Public Radio last month. "Freedom can be messy."

Sounds like a giant "king of the hill" contest, resulting in the most powerful being able to exercise their version of freedom over the will of everyone else.  Meaning freedom for a few and slavery for most.

Do we really want a New Feudalism?

We're going to be serfs any way you cut it.

Yeah, that's usually what happens to people who just want to be left alone...f*cked over by people arguing over grand visions of "justice" or "freedom" or "individuality" or some other bullshiat

20000 Libertarians in NH. 40000 Ideas of what Libertarianism is in NH.

It's like, "we want to be anarchists, but we know that is completely retarded so we'll let there be a few laws to protect the peace," and then everyone has a different idea of what protecting the peace is.

If a community of libertarians (jumbo shrimp?) were hit by a natural disaster and called for help, I would be all for sending it to them, but I would request that all of the aid be stamped with the phrase "SO YOU SAY FREEDOM CAN BE MESSY, EH?"

Oh sure, they live in NH.  But guess where many of them work.

/hint: they wanted to put up a warning sign when you entered this particular state

NH passed a law about a year ago that requires judges to inform jurors of their right to nullify laws that they deem unjust.  There's been at least one case since then  where a jury did just that, finding a man not guilty of marijuana cultivation even though there was no reasonable doubt that he was.

Wonder how much the Free Staters had to do with that law's passage.

There seems to me a grand irony when "individualists" organize into cooperating communities, highly insular, strongly homogenous, and focused on a narrow range of political interests.

As a NH resident (Midwestern Transplant), I do not support this. Just don't become like Massachusetts and I'll be happy.
