Next list will be the 100 greatest tambourine players of all time.

If we're going to include drum machines, that means this list fails without the Alesis HR-16 used by They Might Be Giants.

2013-05-25 02:53:24 PM
Meg White's boobs make the list.

If Boris Williams isn't on the list, I'm calling shenanigans.

No I'm pretty sure the most useless list still belongs to the 100 most interesting pieces of belly lint from backup singers. But this is close

Oh, the people who hate galleries will love this.  Seriously, 101 slides?

I'm super indignant that Torbus Klavshaw from Moistened Tablet Distraction isn't in the top five.

Don Cab, Tool, Shellac, Slint, Helmet/Battles. Not bad. Need the dudes from Oxes and Faraquet to complete my early oughts mathrock playlist.

Why is it I have to reload the page every two clicks of the slide button?

Can someone just make slide shows illegal, already?

Also a little more info would be nice, rather than throwing up a bunch of pictures without the names of the bands they're best known for, and in some cases without the name of the drummer.

Glenn Kotche (Wilco)

He writes some nice music. I like 'Fantasy on a Shona Theme' for Vibraphone.

Wow, that was predictable.

Bill Stevenson should be in the top 10.

If you can even name 100 drummers, period, it may be time to step back from the hi-fi and, you know, go do something else for a while.

2013-05-25 06:19:07 PM
Heh. Get to trot this one out:

"Dave Grohl, best drummer? He isn't even the best drummer in Foo Fighters FFS!"

- Nice to see Igor Cavalera get a nod.

- No Marco Minnemann or Gavin Harrison? You'sa trollin'! (or maybe they aren't aternative enough?)

- Metal guys but no Martin Lopez? mmmmkay.

list fails, etc, etc, etc.

Unless you're only ever exposed to the opinions of blithering farking idiots, it would be hard for PC to get more respect as a drummer.

It's meant to handle slideshows, so the numbers are (always) the slide numbers as they appear on the site.
That this particular slideshow happens to be a countdown where the slide numbers could be interpreted as the rank:
tough titties - tell spin.com to put the countdown number in the slide title.

..or tell the deslider to reverse the order.

I dont know who any of those 20 guys above Topper are, but since when if The Clash alternative anyway? I'd put him at number 1.

What do you call guys who hangs musicians and lug the heavy gear?

Drummers.

2013-05-25 07:35:07 PM
I'm actually kind of surprised at the somewhat decent variety on the list (as in some of these fit a better definition of "alternative" than 90's radio rock) but no Christian Vander? I thought he was some sort of avant-rock drumming superhero? See Magma's De Futura for an example.

Also, while it's great seeing Mick Harris on that list, J Mascis is conspicuously absent. His drumming for Deep Wound was one of the biggest influences on grindcore. Here's the entire Deep Wound 7" (NSFW lyrics).

The real problem with this one is that each slide's text didn't make it into the deslided version. If it had, it would have been clear.
