You can pre purchase the tshirt (without knowing what the winning submission will be here or if you prefer, you can donate directly to the Central Oklahoma Red Cross here.

Say what you will about Wayne Coyne or the music of the Lips, but they have never forgotten the fact that they were some guys that grew up on the wrong side of the tracks before they became the weirdos they are now and they give a lot back to their community. And I'd love to see a Farker have the winning design!

Or you can guarantee that every penny of your donation goes to the victims by donating to the lead organization in the relief effort  here.

I think that what the Flaming Lips (and other groups) are doing is great, don't get me wrong. I just wish they'd team with local orgs that are the lead organizations rather than the Red Cross because the Red Cross will not guarantee that our families, friends, and neighbors are getting these funds once a certain threshold is met.

FWIW, power was restored yesterday afternoon, internet this afternoon. Thanks to Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, and of course, Oklahoma crews from all over the state who have come to help restore essential services.

Fair 'nuff...but I will say that my experience with the Red Cross (I'm a volunteer firefighter in a rural area) has always been positive. There were a sight for sore eyes and an empty stomach at 2am on this fire and they have never said "No" when we call for a family in need after a house fire.

Also fair 'nuff, but as former military, someone who had friends and family devastated by Sandy recently, and as someone who's had lots of contact with Katrina survivors and refugees who now live here (lots of experience with Red Cross over the years, in other words), I've had some negative experiences and heard some... shall we say, less than positive things... but I do understand and appreciate that others have had nothing but positive experiences as well. Guess it really comes down to each specific area chapter, really. /shrug

Since Moore, OK is home of the Smile America campaign and has a smiley on the city's seal I figure...

Any excuse for a little fun will do, I suppose.

But I'd feel better if I spent my time making more money that I can send to Moore now, when it's needed most.  If my design doesn't win,  I've wasted an opportunity to help.
