Goggles!! :)

Apparently, if you don't download the thing, it will continually require "updating" until you do. Neither can you get rid of it's predecessor "talk".

I'm guessing I'm missing an inside joke in the headline, but if it's not an inside joke, pretty much nothing about that headline was remotely correct.

And Google Hangouts is actually pretty cool, FYI.  I finally got a friend who was incapable of doing video chat with any other piece of software ("This Skype is confusing!") to do a video call, which is great!

FAIL is for Subby, who may have downloaded something called Goggle.  I bet this is embarrassing.

I'm not sure how related this is:  I'm using the new hangouts in gmail. Whenever I decline a call on my cell phone and send it to voicemail (which for me is Google Voice) the phone call rings on my gmail webpage instead.  I answered it on there the first time, just to see what the hell it was.  I'm getting tired of having to decline a call on my phone and then on the webpage.

You've been able to do that with Google Talk in Gmail for years.

I don't mind Google adding Hangouts as an option, or for supporting cool, shiny stuff in Hangouts...but keep the standard XMPP-based IM/chat service as well. I've been using it with Google Apps for years and I really don't want to switch to something else.

Anyone figure out how to tell if a user is online or not in Hangouts? Talk would give you their status.

Green bar under their profile picture.

Yes, i have been able to do that for years.  But non-technical people on the other end on an Android phone couldn't seem to get it to work properly.

And?

Heck, if Google employees ignored homegrown software and didn't at least give it a cursory driveby kind of test, I'd be worried.

For that matter, I'd kill for employee participation numbers like that.

There's also rumor of SMS integration, which might make me a convert, since I prefer my tablet.

I have tried to enable the SMS integration.  It sent me a code to authorise it, but there is nowhere I can find to put the code.

As for SMS on a tablet/computer, try DeskSMS.  I use it all the time, I hate sitting in front of a perfectly good keyboard and using my phone to type my SMSs.

I tried deskSMS, but it gave my phone a seizure. Mighty Text was great until it just stopped sending on my phone. They actually have the SMS already? I didn't even see it.

Huh, something that I probably will never use to replace something I didn't even know was there. Saw the update, saw it was to replace something that was a real thing (if hidden deep within my app list), shrugged and said "OK" to get it off my update list because it wouldn't go away.

Congrats Google, you annoyed me to replace one ignored app with another ignored app.

The app replaces Google Talk. farking EVERY Android user has it (or will when they update)...

Well, to be technical, subby did not state there were ONLY 20,000 downloads...so, within the 10,000,000+ downloads, it does, in fact, contain 20,000.

You're on android and don't use google talk? It is probably my second most used app after google voice.

I imagine it's only the Apple shills who say they hate it. Google Talk is a fantastic IM app. I am surprised Fark's resident Apple fanatic BullshiatMS or whatever his name is hasn't stopped by to give us all a dose of iSmug yet.

I had not yet met the person who hated GTalk before this thread.  Indifferent?  Sure.  Hated it?  No.
