I was told by a young woman who was working on her career in law that female assistant attorneys and paralegals are expected to dress sexy and put out if they want to get anywhere in the business. She admitted to having lots of sex with her superiors in order to climb the ladder in her office, and indicated that she knew that was what it would take to get to the point where she was making "the big money."

So I said, "Why spend all that time studying law when you could have just started whoring?"

An ex girlfriend was a paralegal at a big ambulance chaser law firm. It was pretty well known that the female attorneys were banging other attorneys/clerks and doing coke in the office.

They were always fun to hit happy hour with after work, at least.

Duh, because at some point she hopes to eventually marry one of the partners. It's not like you can put in 80-hour-weeks and give birth to and raise children. Honestly, while it's not something I could ethically do, this is the dilemma still faced by pretty much every American woman working in law, finance, business, medicine and many other potentially high-earning fields.

I'm curious - if the shoe were on the other foot, would you not take advantage of these opportunities?

Mine.  Glass wall.  And my last workplace - the office fridge was in there and it had a door to the Director's office.  You never knew when you'd be walked in on.

Mine probably does not.  Since I am not there 24 hours a day I cant say for sure, however, between about 8 A.M. and 6 P.M. every conference room is booked solid.  It is quite annoying.  Its hard to run a project when every conference room is booked all the time.

Actually you would be surprised by the number of women in the engineering field nowadays.  I work for a biomedical engineering company and about 40% of the engineers are female.  Many of them are young and quite hot.

I was going to make a crack about there being gay engineers, to play on the almost all male thing, but then I remembered: I've met a few gay engineers, and they're just as dorky and incapable of getting a date as any other engineer.

If I had to fark my superiors in order to advance in my career, then I'd find another line of work. There are plenty of careers that don't require this kind of behavior. But then again, my primary career goal isn't "making the big money" at any cost, as said by the woman in ZeroCorpse's example.

Mine either, though there's a cost for every choice we make. I'm not going to condemn a woman in this situation any more than her bosses, who in fact should be viewed with contempt for creating this kind of working environment.

Why is it that I get fired immediately after getting caught having sex in the conference room? (Especially when I was in there alone?)

Likewise, when it's another reason: they never put up with my shiat very long. Where can I find these jobs where you can fark up for years?

I won't lie: When I was younger, hotter, and didn't feel like having a regular job, I slept around in exchange for gifts, meals, a place to sleep, etc. It was a brief time in my young life that I'm not proud of.

So the answer is NO, I wouldn't fark some old woman at work just to get ahead, and money really doesn't mean a lot to me anymore. This is why I am not a lawyer, businessman, or ladder-climber. I work alone in both of my careers, and I have quit high-paying jobs when I was asked to do unethical, unsavory, or immoral things. I decided long ago that I would rather be jobless and homeless than compromise my ethical standards for someone else's profit. And I have been jobless, and I have been homeless, and I feel better about myself because of my choices. I found my way back to a good life  my  way, without giving up who I am.

The first time I married, I did it mostly out of fear and financial anxiety for the both of us. Now, I'm dedicated to my current partner out of pure love and deepest appreciation for our communication and her personality. She makes a very nice wage at her current (medical) career, but she hates it. I  counseled her to quit and find something else where she'll be respected, even if she makes a lot less money. I want her to be happy, and I don't care how much money she makes. She feels the same about me.

People who make money their goal usually end up getting it, and then they find out that it's a hollow goal and that they have lost something of themselves in the process of reaching it. Whoring yourself to you superiors doesn't mean you've climbed the ladder; It means you've descended into the gutter.

The problem with blaming the bosses is that the woman didn't do this because she "had no choice."  She-- and all others like her-- made a choice to allow this work environment to exist. If they all said "no" and hung on to their dignity, this would be a non-issue. The reality of it, though, is that if she says "no", one of her competitors will say "yes."

Don't blame the bosses for taking advantage of that. Blame the climbers and schemers who give the bosses reason to believe that there will  always  be some women (and men) who will compromise their self-respect in exchange for more money and power.

You should consider women who  do fark their bosses to get ahead at work to be no less than traitors or collaborators in a war. They had a choice to make, and they chose to betray ALL women by sending the message that YES, some women will do this and brag about it.

I didn't say it was in more than one conference room. (Well, not in more than one per company, anyway.) And who said anything about only one hand?

Besides, I said there'd been other reasons.

Which could give you an idea of how differently people think about sex. Your perspective is just one among many.

Don't blame the bosses for taking advantage of that. Blame the climbers and schemers who give the bosses reason to believe that there will  always  be some women (and men) who will compromise their self-respect in exchange for more money and power.

Again: you call it loss of self-respect. Others call it no big deal.

You should consider women who  do fark their bosses to get ahead at work to be no less than traitors or collaborators in a war. They had a choice to make, and they chose to betray ALL women by sending the message that YES, some women will do this and brag about it.

Some people play golf with their bosses, or big gifts for their birthdays. The fact that it's sex that sidesteps meritocracy here seems to bother you exceptionally.
