Mark me:

Ted Cruz is evil personified.

2013-05-25 08:27:10 AM
It's funny to me that the only people who seem to dislike Cruz are the establishment Republican types and the far left.

Because that tells me we need about fifty to sixty more people just like him in DC.

Considering it's has been and will be extremely entertaining to watch the GOP destroy itself slowly over the coming years, something tells me that Ted Cruz vs. The World would be a much better and funnier comic/movie than Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Ted Cruz wouldn't even like another Ted Cruz in DC.  It would detract from his attention-seeking behavior.  Cruz has no interest in actual legislating.

randomjsa did say "far left", which to wingnuts means "everyone besides the TeaDerper Brigade and Fark Indipendants".

The scary thing is that, given how insane the Republican Party has become, he likely wouldn't be considered that far out there. I fear his running because, even if the chances are small, the consequences of him having any power would be too great.

There's no way for a "small minority" to exercise that much influence unless a majority of people are angry at the government because it can't manage its finances.

Essentially the Democrats are in favor of an ever expanding federal budget to provide goodies for their underprivileged constituents who pay no federal income taxes.

33 states have opted out of creating exchanges under Obamacarr, so the feds will takes over.  The same feds that are being investigated for targeting political groups.  The same feds who have been running trillion dollar deficits for four years while the Democrats in the Senate refused to vote on a budget.  This isn't going to end well.

More power to State govts.  No more federal mandates, subsidys, directives, or other such nonsense.

The federal governmentis not competent to manage its affairs and its budget should be slashed.

Cruz is planning a run for 2020. The next repub nominee is going to be Rick Santorum, because that's how it works. Santorum will lose to whomever the Democrats pick and Cruz, the second place finisher in the 2016  primaries, will be be the shoo-in nominee for 2020.

If there's still a repub Party in 2020.

And the way to do that is...?

// I'll give you a hint - it starts with "the House and Senate pass bills" and ends with "and then settle on a finalized version in conference"
// there is literally no other legal way (other than amending the Constitution) to reduce our spending
// unless...if they fail to pass a budget, can the USG even collect revenue or pay its bills? (This is a bad thing, if true.)

I've suspected that Cruz is in the closet and has tried to establish a  strong hard core rightwing persona as a smokescreen to keep people from suspecting. Just look at that purty mouth:

I couldn't agree with you more.  The next time Halliburton wants to shoot up the Middle East for fun and profit, they can recruit, train and equip their own damn army, hire Blackwater Xe Whatever on their own dime, and get their grubby mittens out of the taxpayers' pockets.

Now, now. how could the legislators who represent Oklahoma possibly have predicted that a tornado would strike and they would need federal funds? It's not like Oklahoma is in an area that's prone to tornadoes or something.

As a Canadian I'm waiting for some of the Americans that I've met and like to come here seeking a new life free from the yoke of religious legislation and free(er) to pursue their dreams of building a successful life.  If someone like Cruz ends up as president, I think it'll make the Bush years look pretty reasonable.

Ted Cruz is truly this generation's Joseph McCarthy, in the sense that he fully embraces the worst aspects of the political climate of his time to advance himself.

I just hope he ends up like McCarthy, drinking himself to death, ignored in the back benches of the Senate.

Actually you could be right. The extremist wing of the repub Party has demonstrated a willingness to let even their own constituents suffer in the name of ideological purity, In the name of ethical consistency the Teapers may choose to reject Cruz; for which, good for them. However, what can only be termed fascists have taken over a significant portion of a major political party and if they succeed in gaining full control of the country they will not willingly give it up again. If they fail to achieve power they may be tempted to seize it, especially in the political disarray which would follow the disintegration of the repub Party. You may recall, the last time a major party dissolved in this country, a civil war soon followed.

On a positive note, and as this issue demonstrates, the extremist element in the repub Party hardly presents a united front. There are the religious fascists, the economic fascists motivated primarily by greed, and the political fascists motivated mostly by racism. Of course there is some overlap but in general the Limbaugh wing of the party is too interested in hookers n blow to willingly go along with Oral Roberts contingent on social issues, and the religious fanatics are likewise unsure of the naked self-interest of the Rand-ites. They're all armed and with a little bit of luck they might end up pulling a Syria and concentrate on killing each other rather than the rest of us. I would be OK with that.

I really wish I could sit here and say that there is no chance of someone like Cruz becoming president, but unfortunately about a third of our country would vote for him in a heartbeat, and the other two-thirds has a habit of dropping the ball when it comes to showing up to vote.

I dunno.  A majority of the American people rejected Mitt in the last one and he's 10 times the presidential candidate that Cruz could ever dream of being.  Obama wasn't coming from a strong position in the last election.  His health care bill, though it passed, is a ghost of what it needed to be to actually fix the US healthcare system.  The economy is still recovering and not recovering all that well.  He failed to close Gitmo and return the US to a position of moral consistency from the hypocritical state it's been in since the early 2000s.  To be fair to him, he had an openly antagonistic GOP to deal with and a lack of support from the blue dogs in his own party, but still... results matter when your the prez.

Suffering from all of this, a solid majority of Americans voted for him again in the kind of situation where the incumbent should do really well.  I suspect if Cruz ends up running against whoever comes up in 2016 or 2020, he'll also be soundly rebuffed and sent back to where he came from.

/Just hopefully not ALLLLL the way back, I couldn't imagine seeing him in the house of commons up here as part of Harper's inner circle
//Hell, he's probably way to extreme for Harper to even appear at a photo op with him

But here's the thing, they think that the military would support them. I'm... none too certain that the military would even get involved in a civil war aside from forcing an end to hostilities.

Although there's something in the military oath about protecting the constitution, no?  They're bound by their oath to protect the US gov't from overthrow.  Though there would definitely be a lot of soldiers that individually would refuse to fight Americans on the streets of the US, all of the drones, and large ordnance and the bulk of the military would firmly be on the side of whoever is running the administration.
