My thoughts exactly. IPA - the Honda Civic of craft beer.

Hence the need for the high prescription beer googles.

Still a little too milquetoast. I mean, they still don't sing about anything. They're like Up With People with better acoustics.

I'm surprised they even drink.

I agree.  I actually acquired one of their newer albums.

There are a lot of classic R&B and soul songs that aren't really about anything. The video for the song is a tribute to the classic Blues Brothers film where Ray Charles performed "Shake A Tail Feather" which is also not about anything.

It is a Pale Ale, not an India Pale Ale,

I did enjoy the link though.  It was a nice way to start the day. Thanks!

In fact, Hanson was in our brewery this week working with us on a pilot brew. They're great guys and serious craft beer fans. We look forward to working with them." ...

shiat, good for them. The way most of their contemporaries went, I'm happy for them.

Yes, but they do it in a really really really REALLY white way.

That's their problem. They are too white.

Beat me too it.   You can't be white and get away with being silly or foolish.  At least that is why my HR rep at work told me.

Every R&B song and soul song is about something. Whether it be about trying to fark the girl next door or trying not to get farked by the man, it is about something. I'm sorry you couldn't hear it.

Actually, I think you just covered the premises behind every Soul song.

I see what you're saying but I took Ishkur's response to mean "something consequential or relevant" (e.g. "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye).

"Thinking 'Bout Somethin'" is about a guy who's girl has been doing him wrong and he's had enough and is leaving her which is a song at least as old as the blues and likely much much older.

/note - I'm not white-knighting Hanson (whom I don't actively listen to), I'm just pointing out that they have improved since the late 90's

They also, thank god, broke up with their label when the suits demanded a full album of mmbops. Founded their own label to promote local bands. So kudos to them...

How in the hell did we get in a conversation about soul music in a thread about Hanson?! Isn't that like getting in a baseball conversation about the Cubs and White Sox in a thread about the goals of a free Quebec?

That's what I thought too. But one of them apparently got married in a Baptist church- that's yer traditional Baptist church, btw, not yer Fundie Baptist church- even. So either they were, and left it, or it was just a presumption.

It was just a presumption that gets passed around. They're not Mormons and never were.

I've got much respect for these guys, even if I don't listen to them. Broke with their label for creative freedom and have been independent ever since, self-releasing records, handling their own tours, and generally being way more indie than most "indie" band ever will.

I disagree. Shake a tail feather. As everyone knows is a metaphore to shake one's booty. In other words, to wiggle one's butt

I'm partial to this one myself:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8OVgc-xXlI

Though "This time around" is in their top3 imho.

Also have a soft spot for "In The City".

And the kickass bassline in "Where's the love".

You would think since they announced this two years ago, they would be a little closer to an finished product.
