Now Stookey had made it quite plain
That she gave pure joy and no pain
But then, a cold breeze-
"Now you'd better freeze!"
And gone was his love-Mary Jane.

Damn that was an obscure reference.

The article must be mistaken.  Clearly these people are siblings.

seized 111 plants, 70 clone plants and four mother plants

That is some insane detail.

Indiana State Police Eradication Team

. . . and that sounds like a group of people from Indiana State University that are committed to hunting cops.

They look like Mary Albright's parents in 3rd Rock from the Sun.

For 70 year olds they look pretty spry. No glaucoma problems I guess.

Man. I hate it when the police are always maintaining common nuisance by busting into my place and stealing my plants.

You know pot has gone mainstream when a grow house is a common nuisance.

They played the song remix every single totally 80's friday night in the late 90's. No way I couldn't get it.

I got the reference, but it doesn't make any sense to me. What, in the article, references Edd "Kookie" Byrnes or 77 Sunset Strip?

Maybe I'm missing something.

170 plants? What is that like, couple hundred million worth?

I'm glad they took their home as it was a den of inequity used to distribute serious drugs to our children.

There was a song callee "Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb."

The people in TFA are named Stookey, and their home is being taken.

U see?

In the same way that "convenience" stores have much more expensive prices than grocery stores?

Very convenient!

This is why I love Fark.  Something as obscure as this gets greened.

I know nothing about this.

This was, actually, not so much of an obscure reference as it was a dated one....but I liked it.

You don't need an in-depth knowledge of obscure pop culture stuff to read FARK, but's invaluable if you're ever going to comprehend what you read, here.

For me it was just the surreal revivification out of the blue of an ancient (well sort of ancient) mass media meme and warping and twisting it to a totally unrelated story based on nothing more that an almost-rhyme or two.  Hell, there wasn't even anything about 'lending' in the story.  But still it worked, and was a pleasant surprise.

It's not obscure to anybody who has played the Genus edition of Trivia Pursuit as it had a question about it.
