For once the shoe is on the other foot for the Red Wings. We're used to being the top seed getting outplayed by a young hungry core that rolled into the playoffs and rides a hot goalie...

Initially, the headline didn't have the word presumed, so it read:

The Stanley Cup champions are on the verge of being eliminated from the second round of the playoffs

Instead of people realizing it was a joke (with Chicago's strong start and all the shiat talk that came with it), everyone just pointed out that Chicago indeed didn't win the Cup last year.

When the captain of your team is losing his shiat constantly, it does not bode well for the team. I have played a couple hockey games over the years, and the young guns with skill and speed are not always the team that comes out on top.

Toews has been in the league 6 seasons, he's not that young any more.

Looking at the Oilers, this example is fitting.

It's pretty sweet.  Although, I do love England's Football Association Cup.  It's a year long tournament where all the teams at pretty much every level of English soccer gets to put a team in.  This past year, there were 758 teams competing.  There's something just outlandish about a tournament like that.

Still, Stanley Cup Playoffs are awesome.

2013-05-24 10:32:46 AM
Can't say they aren't earning it. Don't know what's up with Toews' head game but the Hawks haven't gotten a lucky bounce on any of those post-hitters either. I hate that *DING* sound followed by the puck flying off towards the corner... I think the lone (non-empty) DET goal last night was off the post too. Howard's playing great, don't see the Hawks winning more than maybe one in Chicago this weekend, but at this rate they won't even see the net again this season.

Exciting game though.

Most Hawks fans weren't really shiat talking. From what I recall, myself including, most of us were worried that the Hawks were going to blow their wad in the regular season and hit their slump in the playoffs. That's exactly what's happening now.

I'd say the majority of the shiat talk came from fans of other teams, especially the geniuses that predicted an early exit for the Hawks, because it's so hard for someone to guess that the team with the best regular season record won't win it all. If they do win, nobody remembers or cares about your bold prediction, and if they don't, you get to point out it out and pretend to be some master of sports prognostication.

Either way, the Wings have outplayed the Hawks and I give the team all the respect they deserve. Their fans, however, can all eat a bag of dicks.

winning the president's cup has become a jinx.  i think only 6 teams have one both the president's and stanley cup in the last 25 years.

2013-05-24 10:44:08 AM
I was at the Stars last regular season game against the Red Wings. The Stars were of course eliminated from any chance at the playoffs by that point, but the Red Wings had to win this last game to clinch their spot. The Stars could have at least played spoiler to Red Wings, but they pretty much laid down and let Detroit win with ease. I leaned over and told the friend I was with that it would be funny if the Red Wings ended up winning the Cup after just barely squeaking in... Not that they've won yet, but they're getting closer.

/The butthurt from the Chicago fans I know on Facebook is more entertaining than that game was.

7, actually, which is more than teams in any other of the 15 playoff slots have done.  Plus, 3 that made it to the Finals and lost.  So 10 of 25 times, the President's Trophy Winners made the Stanley Cup Finals (40% of the time) and 7 of 25 they've won (28%).  Those aren't bad numbers considering that there are 15 other teams.
