I don't understand how that's allowable (redirecting with your skate) and kicking isn't.

2013-05-24 07:51:45 PM
Not shocked.

2013-05-24 07:52:15 PM
Id have been OK goal or not on that one. Its close

2013-05-24 07:52:19 PM
Just switched on in time to miss the goal...

2013-05-24 07:53:28 PM
As far as I know, the issue isn't using your feet to score, it's the danger of players kicking at the puck with razor-sharp skates - it's a safety thing. Anyone care to chime in?

My wife talked to Pascal Dupuis on the phone today while at work.  She told him to not let Boston or the Rags win the Stanley Cup.  I told her I was changing the locks on the house.

I think they need to make it less ambiguous.. Anything goes if the skate is on the ice, or something like that.

The impetus towards the goal was not a kicking motion towards the net, however trying to angle a deflection (without a real "kick") would also be disallowed.

And it is good.

Sens had a similar one count against MTL. Can't get too upset as a result.

Well it clearly looks like he angles his skate to redirect the puck. If that's the case then shouldn't the goal have been disallowed?

But not redirect the puck towards the goal

Except he did redirect the puck towards the goal. Because it went into the goal.

Sens appeared to have learned from their mistake and are clogging the net around Anderson anytime the Pens get close

The reason kicks aren't allowed:

Clint Malarchuk.

Also, hockey is not soccer.

I think he has the rule wrong.

Redirects have been okay for a long time. And you can see on that play that Morrow was clearly trying to get the puck with his skate, but trying his damndest not to thrash and kick at it.

Let's just say the NHL is particularly sensitive to "letter of the law" vs. "intent/spirit of the law" -- they will let goals off skates stand if there's no obvious intent to kick directly into the net even if it makes the "letter of the law" interpretation a little vague or ambiguous.
