Creepy.  I got my bachelor's degree from Cal State Northridge, and now I work as a professor at Texas A&M-Kingsville (where Eva Longoria graduated and was Ms. TAMUK).

Small world.

I never got those watered down gender/ethnic studies. Especially as it's often your own gender/ethnicity, as opposed to area studies, where at least you learn a language (or more).

I was wondering what we would include on the curriculum for a White Studies program - how to mow a suburban lawn? How to get your kids into an Ivy League school? How to wreck the economy while making a profit and avoiding jail?

Good for her.

And FYI, is a cute on camera, really hot in person...though very tiny.  I mean, she's a spinner.

A few years back around the time of SXSW in Austin, she was at this little rinky dink bar at the outskirts of where all the actual participating venues were.  My and a few friends walked in, and she was sandwiched in between two giant Mexicans (relax, I can say that because I'm Mexican).

She was maybe around 5'.   But she was very nice.  We chatted briefly with her, she was in town from SA after watching a Spurs game.  Seemed cool to me.

What do you mean, '[you] can say that because [you're] Mexican?'

Is the term 'Mexican' pejorative now?  I thought it referred to someone who is of Mexican citizenship or descent.  I don't think it's an insult, or at least you shouldn't think so?

At least she did some work for the degree unlike others that would just get a token honorary doctorate for giving a commencement speech.

Too lazy for general Celtic/Irish studies? How would you cope with "Irish-American" studies without references to the big picture. I mean, there's a lot more going on historically, sociologically and culturally with displaced Africans. And I'd say that even that is probably better left to the "proper" academic studies, as just learning the interdisciplinary parts will leave you with a shallow level of knowledge, albeit in lots of sectors.

Up to a bachelor level, okay, I get that, then it's basically just the end of your general secondary education.

You understand why that is don't you? Because white people are the majority, and they live in constant fear, ignorance, and mistrust of the non-white people that also live in the US.

As soon as white people stop assuming everyone should speak, act, think, smell, and eat the same as them, we have to force little caucasian children through these stupid classes in the hopes that one day the white people will just stop being so damn white.

And yes, "white culture" is under attack. Because it should be. It sucks. We (I'm white) are wrong. This is not liberal guilt, either. White people just need to farking relax, accept that people are going to be different, and learn to enjoy spicy foods.

The first time I saw her on Real Time with Bill Maher a couple of years ago, I was thinking "what is she doing on this show"? But after just a few minutes of her speaking about current events, she was very inform and had very smart comments and answers with the other panel guests.

I saw her again on another recent Real Time with Bill Maher show and again, she was very smart with her comments, questions, etc.

Hot and smart.

But as usual California always thinks if you speak spanish you are Mexican.

Chicano Studies are inheritently racist

Most of the people who teach this and write the texts are active in Hispanic Racist organizations like La Raza, MEChA, and other groups that push racist ideology like Reconquista and Aztlan

I guarantee that liberal apologists would crapstorm if white anglos taught taking over sovereign countries and kicking out its citizens was OK....like they do in Chicano Studies

There's a lot of folks on this thread who seem to feel weirdly entitled to some sort of justification from Mme. Longoria for her choice of studies.  The course was offered, I assume that she paid with her own money and completed the program.

For example, some guy on the internet says her degree is bullshiat and that she needs to go to school in South America to call herself a Latina...that'll show her!

Ask yourself, am I actually criticizing someone for pursuing something they're interested in for self-betterment (despite my feelings about it)?  If the answer is yes, move away from the computer and go outside or something.
