tigerose: Snuffybud: I bled catching Jack. Oh, owies, owies! keep track of those wounds. You might need an anti-biotic in the future. I love me some kittehs, but their scratches and bites are toxic!

While I highly recommend Hydrogen Peroxide for cat scratches - stops the itching, swelling and also acts as a disinfectant - I agree that bites (even from your own cat with all shots up to date) can potentially cause a serious infection, and should be treated with antibiotics without delay as a precautionary measure.

I think the point he was making was "Before the fact" rather than "After the fact".

Absolutely. CSS - When I was in 2nd grade, we moved into an apartment and had to give my kitteh to my cousin (no pets). I was heartbroken. One day I saw a cat in the parking lot that looked just like my kitty, so I tried to pet it, thinking it was. Got a nasty bite and an even nastier infection for my trouble, even after a peroxide
treatment.

These are all scratches, luckily no bites, and they got peroxided immediately, as in the cats were singing in their carriers as we took care of these. Our vet was clipping Jack's claws and we discovered one on one of his back paws was broken. It's probably still in my arm! Just my luck this was Jack, he's polydactyl, he's got 2 extra claws on each of his front paws!

Mrs. Snuffybud got bitten by Sammy this past winter, it resulted in a visit to urgent care the next day. Sammy never liked Desi and he wasn't feeling well at the time (he passed a month or 2 later) but the Desi-monster was being an instigator. Sammy was aiming at biting Desi but missed and got the Mrs deep in her arm. She's got a nice scar and her arm still bothers her.

Boy does Boots ever NOT like pills.... He drew blood on me this morning, so i had to trim his front claws. He spits them out, forcing me to have to get it into him again... And he has four different meds, two of which are once a day only, one type twice a day and the other type three times a day. I'm having to put his food directly in front of him to coax him to eat, but he'll eat it. As i can't observe him absolutely all the time, i dunno if he's drinking on his own or not, but the level in the reservoir seems to be going down. I'm also syringing water into him when i can get a chance. I need him to pull through this.

When Sneaker is not eating well, I open a can on tuna and start him off on the water from that-- he's never turned it down. I can even crush a pill into it and he licks it all up!

Oh my gosh! I love it! Sometimes this is sooo Eli! Although lately he has been very affectionate. He hasn't bitten me hard in at least a week! :) Seriously though, he has just been glued to me. And his belleh is bald and nasty looking again...I've begun treating it with cortizone cream. I need to do it while he eats, so that it absorbs before he gets around to licking it obsessively. It's a contact dermatitis. He gets it every da*n spring. We used to do Prednisone, but it made him "crazygottaeatgottaeatallthetime" and he was spraying...

*sigh* at least the revolution keeps him tick/flea/mite/worm free for the summer!

Have you ever tried to put a tee shirt or something on him to keep him from licking his belleh??

Can you crush the pills and mix it in with his food?  The vet can tell you.....

tigerose: Ok, get off my lawn moment...we've had a people moving into a house across the street for about two weeks. They have a big white panel truck, which arrives at sporatic times, we've had two moving vans(geebus the house isn't that big!)..and now some a*hat is parked pretty much over half my driveway. Wouldn't common courtesy require that you at least ask the homeowner if it's ok to park there? Are they really so dumb they don't know they are blocking the drive?? I called the police. My husband won't be able to get in the drive and he has a small car!

I would have gone over 1st, and introduced myself, and then said "hey,,,could you move your van a bit?"  But that's just me......just hate to start out on a bad note with new neighbors.  :D

tigerose: Well, home from work. Pwheew! I definitely got my workout today! And I just had a chance to put some more cortizone on Eli's tummy...its' looking narly. Little pimples that are scabby..ew! I'm tempted to put him in either a onesie or a cone of shame..

Didn't I read last week about someone's goggie who needed to wear a shirt outside...and Goggie was smart enough to know it helped and would go get it when she wanted out.
A onesie might not be such a bad idea...

The puppy in question. I don't know how that would work for an outside cat. Does Eli mind getting dressed up or would he be able to connect the shirt with the lack of scratching?

domari: tigerose: Snuffybud: Voted again, Juno was #5 at the time!

The Mrs and I are goofing off today, the cats are happy about that! Jack has been sitting on my lap rumbling and shedding, he doesn't have a clue he'll be at the vets in a few hours!

[i380.photobucket.com image 640x480]
The Jackaroo

you do know that they can read the word "vet" right? In 2hrs your feline will have found a hidey-hole, and you will be stuck explaining that you can't find a 7lb fur ball anywhere in your home! " :)

I finally wised up and put the cats who need to go to the vet in a cage the night before their spay/neuter surgery. After searching the house for cats too many times and not finding them, I put them in a cage then I know where they are when I want them.
It's embarrassing to have to cancel vet appts when cats disappear when I need to bring them in for their appointments.

Did that with D'Artagnan...not so much I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find him, but he needed to be NPO after midnight, and I didn't trust my houseguest to enforce this (I was working that night).
He came to work with me and utterly enchanted the guys. Wish I had a camera to catch the looks on their faces...wonder, pleasure, joy...
All due to a 3 month-old, glossy, friendly, purring black kitten.

Fressing time comment: when I call for the younger females to come be fed, Cali comes gallooping in from wherever she was.  Usually the living room. Rather cute, actually, but she sure makes a lot of footfall noise.
Also Eli & the skin issues: a onesie would be highly preferable to a cone of shame. Also far more comfortable.  When Cali & her sisters were spayed, that's what they all had.

tigerose: Spiralmonkey: bookmark

I have so many bookmarks for Caturday I could make a quilt!

How ya doin?

I am once again imprisoned in bed under the not insubstantial weight of a 'big boned' black cat. He is a 12 pound behemoth. Not overweight by much, just really really big.

My boy was at the vet again today for a final checkup on a lump he's had on his back for a couple of weeks now, vet says bloods were clear and lump is definitely a reaction to the flea injection. Hooray?!? Anyway, he's not bothered by it. Snoring at the moment, got his paws wrapped round his tribble and happy as a clam.

Will we be lucky enough to get any beautiful prose this week? I always look forward to that. (Not being pushy, just honest appreciation!)
