Actually, if you use Windows 8, putting the Start Menu button on the mouse makes sense because now you can get to and navigate the Metro UI menu purely with a mouse and not have to have a hand on the keyboard.

Yeah, I'm using Windows 8. That's because I let myself be tricked into upgrading to it and only then discovered that the only way to get rid of it is to install Windows 7 and all of the data and applications on my PC. I can get by with Windows 8 because I have discovered how to turn off (mostly) the stupid little pictures and restore (kind of) the start button and replace the video player that used to work as-is. So, yeah, I'm lovin' it now, you betcha.

Yo dawg, I heard you like mice so I made your computer interface the size of a mouse.

Seriously, people, my desktop mouse is a 2006 model Lasermouse that they don't make. It's the size of a Norwegian rat, and feels pretty good in my XXL hands. And it has all sorts of buttons, I probably could map one to the Start button. All the mice available at Fry's are small enough I can't have two fingers on the front and my heel on the back.

So their response to botching the Windows 8 developer ...is a sarcastic jab of including a token start button on an MS-branded mouse? Sheesh. Can someone remind MS's PR team what the acronym "PR" means?

Could work if third parties followed suit. Primarily control my HTPC with a mouse and that could make it a bit easier for any Windows OS.

You're not the only one who is using Win8, but you are one of the few that likes the interface.

Win8 sales have been plummeting, and this mouse isn't the cure.

Oh, please, no. No, no, no, no, and no.  NO!

What this means is that all mouse manufacturers will, within a year, play "me too!" and start putting start buttons on their mice, and you won't be able to find any new mice without the button, then I'll have the same issues accidentally hitting the start button on the mouse as I do accidentally hitting the start button that wasn't on keyboards before microsoft decided to add the key.

Many, many people call Windows 8 a failure.  Not just in application, but also in sales.  Is Mountain Lion a failure?  Cause Windows 8 has a larger install base.  Actually, by this time it probably has a larger install base than all OSx versions combined.

For some reasons the measures of success and failure are radically different for Microsoft and Apple in both the PC and the smartphone/tablet spaces.

Well I don't know about you, but I personally can't wait to use a mouse with a touch-sensitive control right where one of my fingers naturally rests while using the mouse. It will help bring back the adventuresome aspect of computing that I so sorely miss now that the cat is no longer jumping onto my keyboard.

Between October and November 2012, Microsoft sold 37.5 million copies of Windows 8. (I've adjusted for a 30-day month.)

Between November 2012 and January 2013, Microsoft sold 14.3 million copies per month.

Between January and May, Microsoft sold 10.1 million copies per month.

Windows 7, by contrast, sold suspiciously close to 20 million copies per month every month for its entire lifetime.

Don't forget that Microsoft was able to increase its Windows 8 sales figures -- legitimately, legally -- until the end of February, by booking money that was actually received last year. There's a reason why the 'Softies chose to defer Windows revenue from 2012 to 2013.

If you buy Microsoft's numbers, Windows 8 sales are falling rapidly -- precipitously, even.

If you're skeptical about Microsoft's numbers, you might want to contemplate how bad the Windows 8 activation rate really is.

Mac sales in Q1 2013 down over 20% from sales in Q1 2012.  It's almost if there was something else that might be taking up a chunk of the computer market.  Maybe something smaller that can be held in your hand, with a touch screen or something.  No, that would never work.

A very ugly, unintuitive wrapper.

Yes, you're missing the fact that Metro is just a different wrapper on the same functionality of gaudy, gimmicky, unintuitive graphical mess of icons with zero visual cues for system functions, serving as a poor facsimile of the start menu.

Fixed that for you.
When most people complain they want the Start button back, that usually implies having the Start MENU along with it.

I'm just saying PC (Mac and Windows) sales are down across the board year to year.  Windows 8 adoption rate and penetration (heh-heh) is going to be lower because PC sales in general are down.  This is (at least) partially due to the prevalence of tablets, which were released during W7's tenure.  Many people don't like W8, but when comparing it to sales and market penetration of Mac OS (which is not considered a failure) it is doing alright.

Well considering Win8 was designed for tablets/phones it seems like their sales should be increasing as people who are obviously wildly in love with the OS clamor to get it on their mobile device.

Also note that I did not make a comparison about one years quarterly sales to another years. This new OS has not been adopted by the masses, that was my whole point.

I just can't understand how there are people that have to defend this pile of crap.  Especially when it's obvious how much it's loathed.
