Huh, I thought they were called X foils. But sure enough, they apparently CAN be called S foils. Fascinating, as Yoda always said.

I think I prefer the original 560-piece version, which is a little more portable and doesn't require a steel endoskeleton and a hangar rental.

A LEGO model of a LEGO model of an X-wing.  I love it!

Wow. This is as nerdy as the life size Han Solo encased in carbonite that FAO Schwartz sold in the 90's.

As much of a Star Wars geek that I was I couldn't justify spending $1500 and half a room for this thing?

/does anybody know of anyone who bought one?

and the wing laser cannons are not proportional in length to the smaller model, so obvious.

I have a working theory that 99% of hot "nerdy" girls out there are just teases looking for attention in a target-rich, undersexed environment.

5,335,200 pieces at $0.12 average per brick and something like this would cost around $640,000 just for the Lego bricks alone.

The thing is so huge and heavy that it requires an internal metal structure to support it:

So, yes. WORST. MODEL. EVER.

I totally agree, but there's a chance one of them will be impressed with an X-Wing of that size.

Not to mention they clearly have some specially built, super sized blocks on the thing.

I want to know how much this would cost, in retail dollars if you had purchased all the pieces.  Wouldn't surprise me if it cost more than a real X-wing (or, heck, an F4, which is about... google... $17M in 2010 dollars).

2013-05-23 03:23:56 PM
With all that time and resources you would think it would look a bit more realistic.  Just sayin'

The new Ultimate Collector's Series X-Wing is ~1500 pieces at ~$200 retail.  Using that same price/brick ratio for this would make it ~$711,000 - though I expect the cost of labor outstrips the cost of the bricks themselves in this case.

Thought that at first, too, but if you look closely they have jagged edges. It just adds that bit of extra authentic lego-ness.
