It's not like he was just jumped, he went down there and tried to take on 5 guys by himself.

thetubameister: miss diminutive: Her son Adrian, 22, was on his balcony when he got into a heated argument with four or five noisy bar patrons.
"They told me 'What are you gonna do? Come down,'" he said. "Stupidly, I went down. They spoke to me within an inch of my face, I pushed them and a fight started."

Next time, teach your son not to start unnecessary fights where he's outnumbered 5-1 against drunken hooligans.

Bigger they are, harder they fall. Pissed off flailing claw-lady is unpredictable. It's like trying to put a leash on a cat.

Coincidently, I don't ever recommend doing that.

You know, I agree with you; however, sometimes young people are sort of stupid when it comes to things like this.  I'm sure he's learned his lesson.

If something like this doesn't happen to you, you never learn about odds.

I got my ass handed to me by groups early on. I haven't lost a group fight unexpectedly since.

Out West. Found the love of my life, incresed income by five times, bought house, have a newborne, and have been able to travel the world since I left.
I attribute my good fortune to the decision to leave. I am certain that if I was still working in Montreal I would still be scraping for dollars to come up with the rent money every month.
fark the quebec francos and their xenophobic society.

Ah the old Canuckian anti French bigotry. Don't be mad just because they refuse to be forced to work two jobs 60 hours a week for peanuts, get raped on housing costs and like a little freedom/culture. It's a messed up place but the rest of Canada could learn something from them about enjoying life a little and not always doing exactly what the government tells you to.

Jobs here are stagnant, and I'm continually amazed by the people boasting about their 40k$ salary while paying a mortgage, taxes, more taxes, condo fees, insurance, more taxes again, to live in a city with garbage-filled streets. They have no money at the end of the month.

How do you not get raped on housing costs? Rent might still be rather cheap in Montreal, but housing is freaking as expensive as any other big city in Canada.

And it's hard to enjoy life a little, when you are making minimum wage, regardless of your qualifications, because Quebecers only hire other frogs for anything that has the apperance of a professional job. Even though those professional jobs don't make more than 40k as somebody already mentioned.

So your hate is so seething you'd tear the country apart out of spite. Classy. Do you really think that Canada would be a better place with a huge chunk of it (which I might add is directly in between main shipping ports and the rest of the country) missing? Lookit, you didn't like it, ya moved, now you're happy. WTF is the problem? Some people love New York, others hate it. Same thing. You just butthurt 'cause the ladies wouldn't put out for you too?

And yes, they can be very insular but if you make an EFFORT to appreciate their culture most of them will warm up. Did you even try to learn to speak French while you were there? My French sucks but as soon as I at least made a fumbling attempt to communicate in their language they would generally switch to English and be more than friendly/helpful.

lulz

The way I look at it is if I had people coming up to me every day asking me for directions in Chinese I would get pretty damned annoyed after a while too. North Americans just aren't used to being places where English isn't the primary language and get all entitlement butthurt about it. Quebec is a VERY different place than most of the continent. This is a good thing. It means you can take a vacation and feel like you're in a different country without the cost of going overseas. The rest of Canada is too similar to the US to get that kind of contrast. You might as well just go visit Maine or Washington (state).

Are you posting from the 70's? Polls have shown a consistent decline in support for separation over the past 30 years. It's over, man. The current population just don't want it despite what a few angry old white guys squawk about. And really the rest of the country should be brave enough to stand up and take what's rightfully theirs but instead they just roll over and let the federal and provincial governments mug them while services get cut.

I have no problem with big government but it better damn well be efficient and provide some value for the tax dollar. From what I've seen Canada has a real problem with sponging up money and only letting a few drops trickle back down to where it's needed.

As someone who has been living here for 23 years...THIS.

We're the most corrupt and economically stagnant city in the country.  I used to love this place, but every extra year I spend here kills whatever love I have left for it.  I'm REALLY hoping my "Ottawa option" works out so I can get out of here.  It's the type of city that would be great for about 1-2 weeks a year, but living here full-time is horrid IMO.

Savage Bacon: /Stade Olympique = New Thunderdome

There's nothing new about the Stade. Ever been in there? It's got this kooky '70s architecture inside, with claustrophobic corridors with raw concrete and pipes everywhere.

The smell... oh the smell. Rusty water everywhere.

It is a joy to pay taxes in such a fine place.

I suspect it's as bad anywhere else, but at least other places don't pretend to world-class status. Montreal is world class nothing IMO.
