At least he's only singing among the victims who are OK.

It could be worse... he could be walking into the midst of the injured or those who had lost people and singing Metallica's "Blackened" or something like that.

Who's peekin' out from under a stairway
Calling a name that's lighter than air
Who's bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows it's Windy

Who's tripping down the streets of the city
Smilin' at everybody she sees
Who's reachin' out to capture a moment
Everyone knows it's Windy

And Windy has stor-my eyes
That flash at the  sound of lies
And Windy has wings to fly
Above the  clouds (above the clouds)
Above the clouds (above the clouds)

Children die every day, many in more violent or depressing ways than a tornado.

Should we all spend a portion of each day sobbing in the corner?

And it's not just the headline that's 'hilarious', the 'lucky' children, such as the boy described in the article, were crushed to death immediately. The girl(who was the one who loved to sing), suffocated to a slow death under tons of rubble. Hilarious! It took 2 days for rescuers to find her body, during which her parents had no idea whether she was dead or alive. I'm sure her grief stricken parents took some comfort, while they were waiting, in reading snarky Fark headlines about poor headline grammar.

Oh also, the girl's family's house was completely destroyed, but I guess that doesn't matter, because she won't be needing it anymore! Amidoinitrite?

Oh wow, you got me AGAIN. I really stepped in that one, huh! When will I learn???

I wish that I could come up with a suitable retort, but frankly, I don't have the intellectual capacity, and it's not like they give those photobucket accounts out to everyone!

But hey, I really do have a sense of humor. For example, I also find it 'hilarious' that subby's screen name is "Mominator". Because what Mom hasn't wanted to have her terrified children crushed or smothered underneath tons of debris at some point and then have a laugh about grammar afterwards, amirite?

In fact, I think I would be a great idea for Subby to drive to Oklahoma City and comfort the survivors. I bet JaNae's father would really appreciate Mominator's unique perspective, because truthfully, he probably really does need a laugh right about now. "Hey Joshua, I'm sorry about your loss, but did you read this HILARIOUS "Faux News"(get it?) headline about it--they left out some commas, so they made it sound as if she was crazy(and still alive!)!

I'm sure that will cheer him up right away!! And after he got done laughing, you could go back to the ruins of his house with him and maybe find a few mementos of his daughter before they hauled the debris off to the dump...

Oh also, Subby, not that "Faux News" needs any white knights, but that was an AP story, with the exact original AP headline.

Yes, there quite obviously is, or so many people wouldn't be laughing at it... Just because you lack a sense of humor, don't go around insulting those with one... The humor lies not in the death of children, but in the headline's grammar failure... Finding it funny doesn't make you an evil person who finds kids getting crushed to death funny; it makes you someone who can laugh at the absurdity of the situation implied by the headline's grammar... Nope. Don't recall that thread at all and I've got a helluva sense of humor. However, this is nowhere even close to being in the ballpark. I get the grammar fail. Very poor choice of words, but far from funny at this point, IMHO. Some of us have friends & family in the affected area, children of our own and this tragedy hits way too close to home.

Tell ya what, Rob. Since you're apparently Fark's equivalent of Richard Pryor, you go have kids of your own and pour your heart & soul into them and sacrifice for them day-in, day out. THEN ALSO at some point in your life, look the beast that is a tornado, regardless of its magnitude, directly in the eye. I mean, find yourself directly in the path of one bearing down on you and your children, as opposed to experiencing it from the friendly confines of a Youtube video. If and when you make it through the whole ordeal get back to me and tell me how funny a poorly written headline about it is when everything in your life is gone in seconds, because that's how long it takes. Seconds, Hombre. Seconds.

All I'm talking about is a little perspective here & a modicum of respect.

[sarcasm]
I've had the  extreme joy of experiencing three of them in my 40+ years, Rob & every one of them  truly was a pants sh*ttingly, hilariously great time.

Are you insinuating I set myself on fire freebasing cocaine?!

All I'm talking about is a little perspective here

Which is what you seem to be lacking... You're taking way too much offense over a completely non-offensive thing... Someone was having a laugh over a stupid editor's failure of a headline and the absurd situation it implied, and you instead see people mocking dead children and being heartless evil bastards... If people were posting stuff actually making fun of the dead kids, then you might have a point, but they're not... They're making fun of the editor that came up with that stupid headline...

(But, for the record, it wouldn't necessarily have been wrong even to joke about the dead... In many situations, black humor is the only way some people can cope with tragedy... It can certainly be offensive to anyone directly involved, however... But, as they say, it's better to laugh than cry... However, that's all moot, since there was no black humor involved here, merely grammatical absurdity humor... If anyone is making fun of the dead, it's the headline writer, so take any anger out on them, not the people making fun of their stupid headline!)

2013-05-23 09:35:25 PM
When the tornado was making its way towards the school, why didn't they just evacuate and go somewhere else? I've never been to a place with a tornado so I don't know how dangerous it could get outside. If I knew there's a good chance it would pass over where I was, I would get the hell out of there, I wouldn't trust any building or structure to shelter me safely.

No, Rob. I wasn't implying any cocaine use or self-inflicted flamination. I just referenced Richard Pryor because he was just about the funniest cat ever, IMO, & came to mind first.

I understand where you're coming from and it's true that we use black humor as a coping mechanism in the face of tragedies that life deals us - had a friend who lost his wife this summer and when I went to see him before the service, he and lots of other mutual friends were singing "Goin' to the chapel & we're gonna get buried." I also totally get the epic grammar fail in the headline - Commas. How do they work? And I don't see any dark humor. That said, some of us have first-hand experience with the chaos of a tornado and Monday is very fresh for us. I still have nightmares about the three I've been through many years ago. When I wake up, I have to check to make sure I didn't crap the bed. Lucky for Mrs. 4NTLRZ, that hasn't happened.

Let me share something with you & I do hope you'll understand my perspective and how I just can't find anything to laugh about right now.

Some of us have friends in the affected area of Moore. A dear friend of of mine from college - someone I consider a brother - lives there with his wife and 1st grade son who attend(ed) Briarwood Elem. They are okay & all were thankfully not in the path when the storm hit, but lost EVERYTHING except for their vehicles. Their home and all that was on the property is gone. Most fortunately for them, they still have their kiddo. Others are not so lucky.

I wasn't trying to come off as some self-righteous ass & I'm sorry for throwing flames. I just have a very close connection with someone trying to deal with the situation.

At the risk of inciting the Fark Anit-Kid Faction, I'll say this. Lots of kids were lost Monday & I'm a parent of three that range in age from 17 to 8. It just seems too soon in any respect. Some parents up there are finalizing funeral arrangements. Right now kids are a no-go zone for me where the LULZ are concerned. That's all.

They always say, never try to outrun a tornado, but from what I've heard, they tried to get all the kids out. The deal is, with 15 minutes warning - which seems like a lot - it's nearly impossible to evacuate an entire school grades K through 6. That's a lot of kids to move in a short timeframe, even with a tornado on the ground that's moving slowly. And they're kids; hundreds of them. There's a lot of jack-assery and baffoonery that goes with the territory.

Yeah, I know... See, I was just making another joke... You really aren't able to see any humor at the moment, are you??

Let me share something with you & I do hope you'll understand my perspective and how I just can't find anything to laugh about right now.

I get it... But, just because you can find absolutely nothing in the world humorous at the moment doesn't mean everyone else on the planet needs to stop trying to be funny... If you can't deal with it, you should probably remove yourself from places like Fark for a while... Because, threads like these are about the mildest and least offensive thing you're likely to find around here! In the actual threads about the tornadoes as they were happening, lots of proper douchebags were basically cheering for them and openly mocking the dead... They weren't even joking, just being assholes... Those are the sort of people that rightly deserve condemnation... Not someone just trying to lighten the mood by pointing out a silly headline... You may not be able to laugh yet, but those of us that can appreciate it...
