Well, gas prices make you not want to drive, not want to take your boat out, not want to travel at all, so duh.

Get ready for all the 'safety' checkpoints too.

You know, in case a terrorist falls out of the sky and lands in your trunk.

Or you decide to be a dickbag and drive intoxicated. Be sure to tell the cop you've only had one beer, so you give them probable cause.

More, less whatever Im gonna avoid the 40-75 split like he plague Fri and Mon.

It's not the number of vehicles, it's the type of vehicles.

One lumbering RV towing a Buick with the whole thing being driven by a freshly-retired desk jockey quivering in terror has the highway-clogging potential of a fleet of weekday commuters still bitter over being snubbed by the Death Race 2000 remakes. .

Sure, because if you're if not doing anything wrong you've got nothing to hide, right citizen?  Roadblocks are a violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Under 0.8 and I'm still pretty good to drive.

I was about to take you to task for that horrible sentence, but then I saw you live in Harrisburg, PA.  My irritation turned to pity.

Whatever you say, random internet lawyer.

/pro-tip: What you say to a cop during a DUI checkpoint is what gives them all the legal ground they need for probable cause.

To be fair this one said "less travel" (factoring in less flights) and the other said "less traffic", which is also true based on the same estimates, but concentrating on different things. Of course the chances that people would notice more traffic when it is predicted to be up 0.25% is fairly unlikely anyway.

Oh I'm not dumb enough to step out of line during these sort of things and there's been success in making these sort of things legal.  However, it is the police holding up every driver on the road, most of whom are doing nothing wrong.  I just don't agree with it and I don't think it's in the spirit of the Constitution.

That's a much better way of phrasing it. I disagree with you, but I eminently respect you when you put it like that.

Tuesday morning's headline: Memorial Day traffic exactly the same as last year

/tommyl66 Collects Millions in Bank Error

2013-05-23 07:03:40 AM
These headlines would be funnier if there wasn't a (Featured Partner) link between them.

But, hey- revenue!

2013-05-23 07:05:28 AM
This is why I'm glad that I managed to get memorial day off. The GF and I are just going to stay home

One thing I learned when driving over the road was on a holiday weekend you will make better time on US and state Highways than you will on the interstate.

2013-05-23 07:17:21 AM
The whole thing's arranged just to aggravate Dad
And it's amateur day on the old super slab
The kids are strapped down like a half load of pipe
All safe in their car seats they fuss and they gripe

you know, that special kind of drunk, where you know you shouldn't probably be driving so you try that much harder.

Don't forget to pull over into a another lane if a cop is on the side of the road in NYS.
They love causing traffic jams and more accidents.

2013-05-23 07:35:12 AM
For a moment there, when I saw the dual headlines, I thought I someone had gifted me Total Fark and I'd stumbled into the Total Fark section without realizing it. Then I re-read them. Oh you silly mods.

Might find a bridge to go watch the mayhem on the Santa Fe and Suwannee rivers this weekend. Taking the boat out is quite dicey on a holiday weekend. All the looney tune redneck yot clubbers will be out in full force. And so will Florida Fish and Wildlife, with boats, helicopters and planes, waiting to pounce on unsuspecting boaters and PWC's.

fark you CNN.  That is all.

AAA is a lazy, bloodsucking organization that doesn't deserve its name.

Right, because court rulings--even the supreme court-- would never violate the Constitution or people's rights.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have slaves to get back to in my time machine.

Yeah Im not taking my puny fishing boat out this weekend. Too many drunks in ski boats and jet skis doing like 80 mph while drunk.

I am boating regardless of the expense. So I guess I'm that guy,

2013-05-23 09:17:39 AM
Whatever.

I am driving from NoVa to Colonial Williamsburg for the weekend.  Decided to get a cheap hotel for Friday night so that we do not have to battle the traffic Saturday morning.

We won't even be hitting the road till 8-9pm, so any post work/early travel traffic down 95 and 64 SHOULD be done and over with.  I am expecting some crap up here, but once I get past the disaster that is the 95/395/495 clusterfark, we should be good to go.

The bigger issue is the traffic on our way back.  Not sure when we are going to head home...

Well, you obviously need to be there before "drunk sloppy bang time".

I would hope you're under .8...heck, if you're over a .6 you're probably dead. Unless you're a homeless Polish guy.

Obviously people saw the previous headline and more of them decided to stay home.  Hence less traffic.

2013-05-23 01:03:40 PM
AAA forecasts less travel, but more traffic.

The volume of air travel is down, and the volume of drivers is up, but does not make up for the decrease in air travel.

2013-05-23 01:06:03 PM
This appears to be the AAA press release.

Overall, 300,000 fewer travelers, but 100,000 more people going by car.

2013-05-23 02:27:22 PM
"Less is more."

PoTBoT: I am boating regardless of the expense. So I guess I'm that guy,

If your boating around Western NY, get ready to be pulled over by the Sheriff, NY State police, Home Land Security, DEA, Coast Guard, Local Police and Boarder Patrol boats. They take about an hour each being dicks.

2013-05-23 02:54:16 PM
I'm looking forward to it.
