Face transplants have sure gotten a good deal better these days. Once he heals, probably will be hardly noticable.

2013-05-22 06:11:58 PM
The doctors are just trying to save face after failing the initial transplant.

I would definitely get some Frankenstein plugs if I went through something like that.

So, does he look like Nicolas Cage or John Travolta now?

/I'm too sensitive to check out the graphic pics for myself

I would troll the donor's family so hard. "OH MY GOD, it's Piotor!"

They're really not that bad... a computer rendering of what his damaged skull looked like according to a scan, and some post-op pics of a guy with a stitched-on face. No blood or nothin'.

He's not going to look exactly the same due to skeletal differences.

From reading about the procedure they did a lot more than transplant the face , they basically rebuilt a portion of the skull, which makes what they did all the more awesome.

where did the donor face come from?

The poor guy has been through enough without the hospital staff pranking him by sticking rigatoni noodles in his nostrils.

Usually, you at least get Tleilaxu eyes after a stoneburner. This guy gets an entire face? Not bad.

The guy checked the box on his driver's license. You never know when you need to save face.

You want to see them if you want to be screwed up for life.

I saw a photo of a guy that had been in a motorcycle accident - he was resting on his elbows looking at the camera with the most beautiful blue eyes, but from his cheek bones to his neck was nothing but bone, a tooth, some tongue and blood pooled on the hospital gurney.  He face was simply not there anymore.  I have no idea if he died, but it was before face transplants were attempted.

You don't want to see that.  I wish I never had.

I hope this guy has a somewhat reasonable life after the surgery.

Really? Life's not worth living with a usable face that doesn't look exactly like the one you were born with? You must have one amazing mug.

Saw that pic too. Went out and bought a full face helmet.

That would be one hell of a funny/cruel photobomb. Follow them on all their family vacations dressed as the Grim Reaper.

Some leper playing hockey?

I heard there was a face off in the corner.

I think I saw the same picture and you are right, over 10 years later just the memory of it makes me cringe. As a motorcyclist, this is why I say when you put a bucket on your head, use the whole bucket...

I hope this guy gets out of this OK, it was a friggin work injury, not a thrill seeking hobby! He looks damn good for having a face installed and he hasn't even healed up yet. Keep your head up Bud, and good luck.
