Also, word is that the league determined Mario Chalmers is not an "unfair advantage and assault against the physics and rules of the game of basketball" and cleared him to play tonight.  Lol.  Heat may be up 2-0 or even 3-0 by the time this game is over.

Many of these loyal fans knew about this team even before Lebron James played there. Some of them were such big basketball fans they even knew who Lebron James was.

I like how you guys are bagging on the knowledge of the Miami Heat fans, but you all know they're going to let Reggie Miller have it when the Pacers walk out on the floor tonight.

I don't know why you think Heat fans have it in so badly for the Green Bay Pacers.

Prediction: loose ball, Wade and James dive for it, bump heads, knock each other unconscious.  Chris Bosh starts crying, Norris Cole quits team and auditions for Kid n Play tribute band.

Can somebody explain why it makes sense that the Western Conference finals have already played 2 games before the Eastern finals have even played game 1? Wouldn't it make more sense to space them evenly so there's less chance of one team having a huge layoff before the Finals?

I assume because the West is slated to go seven games while the East is scheduled to go five, according to Stern.

/really, when you schedule like that you're only inviting conspiracy theories

Stern wanted to give Dwyane Wade as much time as possible to heal his sore knee so there is a better chance of Lebron's team making it to the Finals.  No way anyone is tuning in to watch Pacers/Spurs or Pacers/Grizzlies.

Pretty sure the East will play games 1 and 2 before the West plays game 3, so it will even out.

Would've been an earlier start to the series if the Pacers could've close the Knicks out in five. Then, to make sure the Pacers had enough rest, they got FORTY-SIX free throws at home in Game 6 and the refs took Shumpert and Chandler (the Knicks' only defenders) out early.

No.  I'm not a big NBA conspiracy guy.  I was just responding sarcastically to the question about the delay.

Given how much the guy on the bus was swearing up and down that the Pacers would crush the heat, and Granger/Hibbert is the best duo since Jordan/Pippen, I'm going to say Heat in 5

Exactly, they most likely wanted the more premere matchup (Heat) on their most popular day (Sunday).  Not a conspiracy, I'm sure they work out scheduling based on potential ratings all the time.

Home team wins each game. Lebron whines about respect while being allowed 4 steps for every dribble. Wade complains about foul calling while holding every Pacer he's supposed to guard. And Hibbert dominates first few games in the paint while demonstrating all possible meanings of the word silent.

the officiating has been awful both ways all game imho

Nah. Just tight. And focus on stuff they usually forget about during the playoffs like 3/5 second violations. Second half there will be a ten second violation.

I was actually thinking it was the 10 seconds to take a free throw (jazz fan so it was brought up frequently with karl on the line).

Foul Ray Allen, great plan... but then again, what do I know? It seemed to work.

2013-05-22 11:15:19 PM
I'm guessing the pacers bench will not allowed to be standing around in their game jerseys going forward

Really Ray, make it worth our while.

FARKING HELL BAN ALL TIME OUTS!!!!

/Rooting for the Heat
//But Like the Pacers as well.

2013-05-22 11:17:23 PM
So if Pacers pull a miracle, great. If Miami wins, they barely managed to hold serve.

2013-05-22 11:17:37 PM

elguerodiablo: Tied at 89.  50 seconds.

Hard to believe nearly 40 seconds of game time have flown by in only 11 minutes.

2013-05-22 11:17:46 PM
Yeah, if I could make one change to both the pro and college games, it would be to remove one timeout.

farbekrieg: TheJoe03: Ha, can't believe he missed.

True but he was the best FT shooter on the floor, they purposely got him the ball, and he bricked his first FT.

For the record, I would be totally supportive of a rule that if you were eliminated from the playoffs, companies couldn't feature you in commercials until the playoffs were over. I'd love to see the decisions companies make, like, do we get two rounds of Melo, or do we get four rounds of Bosh, who is also cheaper? Or do we just go for broke and see how long we can ride Danilo Gallinari?

Gallinari is a Nugget so it's just the 1 round.

Nuggets fan.

100% agree.  With all the talk about Jason Collins coming out of the closet I am tired of the Gatorade commercial with Durant and Wade having wet dreams about each other

5 on Battier, 5 on Wade, 5 on Hibbert

5 on Bron, 5 on Wade, 5 on Hibbert, 5 on Battier.

C'mon, Pacers, finish strong.

2013-05-22 11:35:17 PM

farbekrieg: so they hate basketball fans, at least they are screwing up calls on both teams

Yeah I know.  I'm still pissed about the Flagrant foul on Tony Allen from Manu last night.  It was correctly called a flagrant, but the league should have taken action today against Tony Allen flopping or else the rest of the league is going to go all "Euro-grass-diving"

2013-05-22 11:35:38 PM
5 on James and Wade in OT and behind. Heat werent considering that I think.

2013-05-22 11:36:38 PM

2013-05-22 11:39:09 PM
99-99 Indiana/Miami, 49.7 seconds to go.

Pacers have been playing some dumbass ball the last 2 minutes.

2013-05-22 11:39:18 PM
49 seconds, 4 timeouts. So...20 minutes left?

2013-05-22 11:39:20 PM
So, the Pacers blow their possession and get an off-balance shot followed by LBJ making 2 from the line and the Pacers blowing their last possession with a scrub shooting a deep 2?

2013-05-22 11:40:06 PM
Stevenson should have put that on the floor and driven. He just isn't there yet on threes

2013-05-22 11:40:56 PM
Bad shot, come onnnnn.

2013-05-22 11:40:56 PM
i really wish teams tried a bit more for those 2 for 1s when they get the ball with 30 odd seconds to go.

2013-05-22 11:41:02 PM
Oh shiat. Not double OT.

2013-05-22 11:41:38 PM

TheManofPA: So, the Pacers blow their possession and get an off-balance shot followed by LBJ making 2 from the line and the Pacers blowing their last possession with a scrub shooting a deep 2?

Stephenson is a starter and that shot was set up well.

depends on the team, but pretty much about this much.

I wonder if that 3 pointer that went in after the time out is going to come back to haunt them

2013-05-22 11:44:27 PM
Don't you at least foul James?

2013-05-22 11:44:31 PM
Good thing Roy was on the bench.

2013-05-22 11:44:44 PM
brain fart taking out hibbert?

2013-05-22 11:44:49 PM
Take Hibbert out??

2013-05-22 11:44:50 PM

dugitman: TheManofPA: So, the Pacers blow their possession and get an off-balance shot followed by LBJ making 2 from the line and the Pacers blowing their last possession with a scrub shooting a deep 2?

Stephenson is a starter and that shot was set up well.

I meant the last shot would be a scrub; Stephenson was kind of off-balance.

I was betting on Hibbert being there to half-block Lebron but LBJ would get the foul call and make both. That was definitely the play to do on their end, you end up with the bucket or foul a lot in that situation.

2013-05-22 11:45:00 PM
Is Bron's still upset over his hairline.

2013-05-22 11:45:02 PM
pacers win? Celtics fan.

2013-05-22 11:45:14 PM
So how many people would LBJ have to kill to get called for a foul on this possession?

2013-05-22 11:45:17 PM
Why would you take out the person that is keeping LeBron from driving to the basket?

As soon as Roy walks off the court, everyone in the building knows LeBron is going to drive...

2013-05-22 11:45:22 PM
WTF. Why is Hibbert sitting?

2013-05-22 11:45:23 PM
Was that intentional so Hibbert didn't get 6? In case of double OT?

2013-05-22 11:45:37 PM
Yeah, not sure why you would take out Hibbert and go small.

2013-05-22 11:45:47 PM
Why would you pull Hibbert there? Even if the Heat don't force the switch, LeBron is still driving that.

2013-05-22 11:46:10 PM

I_C_Weener: Don't you at least foul James?

Impressive with how strong he was to hang onto the ball during the drive.

And here comes your blown final possession with no one really getting open rather than just driving to the hoop

not really phantom just ticky tack that you get 70% of the time at home, but they have been trying to enforce those all games

Hey LeBron, grab the ball and just GO STRAIGHT TO THE HOOP

DVR that play and watch it for 3 hours on a loop, and you have your Sportscenter for the next 2 days.

Pacers lost that game, Heat didn't win.  But I give credit to the Heatfor scrapping it out.

Ok, look, nobody gives a blue bloody f*ck if Bosh takes a jumper to win the game. The best goddamn basketball player on the planet is an absolute monster when driving to the rim. You have a guaranteed stopper that has worked hard all game. Use him.

Pacers got double the usual turnovers from Miami, most of which were unforced. Miami shot a horrible percentage from three. The refs called more fouls against Miami AND took out their stars for large portions of the game. George got a REALLY bogus call to get him three foul shots...and they STILL lost.

Heat in 4.

/also, for all the sh*t Vogel's getting for not having Hibbert in there...how about Spo running Battier out there over and over for "offensive" purposes while Birdman was on the bench?
//7-7, 2-2, and 3 blocks...instead you get a guy who couldn't hit the ocean if he fell out of a boat tonight and gets constantly steamrolled by West

Nah, replays show that George was falling sideways already and Wade MAYBE grazed his arm - if they'd been calling that throughout the game, fine. But apparently two swipes at James on that previous layup and a hit on the head wasn't worth calling a foul on; why should George get that bailout call?

*rolls eyes*

Because Indiana needed the refs to fix the two games they won against Miami during the regular season...

If only Indiana could get one player on their team to shoot as many free throws as the other team in order to win the championship. That'd be quite the accomplishment.

I'm not giving Miami and any shiat -- that was a reference to Wade in 2005 btw -- for the game yesterday. Pacers should have had Hibbert on the floor and let Bosh take the last shot (or James jumper).  I expect Miami to win the series. They're better than the Pacers. However expecting them to sweep is ridiculous.

This is the second time you've gone out of your way to complain the refs hate Miami while you complain that other people complain the refs are helping them. You keep bringing it up while none if us are biatching about the refs and Miami. Why are Heat fans such douches? Guess we're a bunch of "haters" with no "swag" as well.

redmid17: I'm not giving Miami and any shiat -- that was a reference to Wade in 2005 btw -- for the game yesterday

Oh, I know it was. I'm only rooting for the Heat because I enjoy watching LeBron play and watching him make all the Skip Baylesses of the world STFU (or change their opinions and pretend they were the reason for his success). I don't particularly like Wade or how his sloppy ball-handling almost cost them that game. I also have to turn away from when they show the Miami crowd to prevent myself from instinctively rooting against those people's happiness.

I root for players and the sport, not for a particular team. I appreciate both teams' letting players make plays, even when intentionally fouling people would've been the "smart" play. I like that the Pacers aren't nearly as obnoxious about cheap shots as the Bulls.

Hell, aside from when Hansbrough is on the floor, I like the Pacers.

I just feel that if people in these threads (not necessarily you) are going to constantly make references to the Heat winning because the refs will make sure of it, that we should point out when EVERY team gets a huge advantage. Thus far in the playoffs, Miami hasn't had much of an advantage from the refs in any game, statistically. Their opponents are shooting about the same number of FTs; they're getting called for roughly the same number of fouls. (Maybe not in the Milwaukee series, but I'm only considering games against teams that have a legitimate chance of a real series).

And of course I'm overreacting - Heat probably only get 1 in Indiana and win it in 5. The point I'm making is that the Pacers had a TON of things go their way in this game and they still lost. You think that the Heat are going to continue to not make threes or FTs, that the Pacers are going to shoot more FTs in every game, that Allen is going to miss a critical FT, that George is going to make more off-balance 30-footers? That the Heat are going to turn it over another 20 times, most of which were unforced?

The only thing the Heat really had going for them that they can't expect to have happen again is Andersen's performance. But really, Andersen didn't do anything so spectacular offensively - he just knows to cut behind his man so he can get free dunks when Hibbert rotates to try to stop LeBron. I don't think he made a shot from more than six inches from the rim.

/was honestly hoping Battier would foul out so Spoelstra would HAVE to put Andersen back in

I will say it was refreshing for LeBron James to have a foul called on him, let alone 5.  Didn't he go like 5 games without a single foul called on him this season?  That's pretty impressive...even if he rode the bench for 4 of those games.  So, 5 games without a single foul.  The man must be the best defender the NBA has ever seen.

I dont hate the Heat but I understand why people do.

The Decision, the pep rally, making fun of Dirk being sick, whining after every call/non-call, Dwayne Wade, LeBron's press conference after losing to the Mavs.

I like the way they go about business now but there was a lot to dislike in the beginning.

I follow Bomani Jones, I think I can handle anything.

Gunny Highway: The Decision, the pep rally, making fun of Dirk being sick, whining after every call/non-call, Dwayne Wade, LeBron's press conference after losing to the Mavs.

See, the whining after every call/non-call...EVERY PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE does this. They just don't get the camera on them after the whistle as often.

The Decision...meh. It was going to be a press conference. No problem with keeping it from being a thousand media people whining about how you owed it to Cleveland. Let 'em whine in print and on TV the next day behind your back like they did.

Pep rally? Well, you've seen the fans in Miami. They probably didn't even know LeBron and Bosh signed there until that.

/hell, I'm even fine with the comments after the Mavs' loss - it wasn't RIGHT to say, but it was true, and I always enjoy when athletes speak the truth instead of in cliches.
//doing the coughing thing to mock Dirk was lame, though
///I'm gonna put that one on Wade, though. Looked like Bron was the outsider trying to fit in on that video
////if LeBron is going to win 6+ titles, it's not gonna be with Wade as the No. 2 option, though
///which is good; it'd piss me off if Wade had more titles than he did

They were right about Wade, that's for sure. Plus it's not crazy to say the refs won't foul out James, it's only happened once.

I agree with all of this. The hate comes with being the best.  LeBron gets it now and it is much easier for me to root for him.  Game 6 of the ECF, when he tore out my heart and shiat all over it, gave me a whole new respect for him.  The guy is awesome to watch.

I_C_Weener: The man must be the best defender the NBA has ever seen.

He just doesn't do all the reaching or gambling that a lot of guys do. Sometimes guys beat him around the edge - instead of grabbing or reaching from behind to try to poke it out, he lets the guy get to the help defense and rotates over to the guy his helper is leaving. Most fouls are called when guys overextend themselves trying to catch back up to someone who beat them.

If you'd actually watch the games, then you'd see that he really doesn't commit fouls very often on defense. You could say he should be whistled for an offensive foul or two per game, but if you're going to complain about that, then you should also complain about the fact that he only draws defensive fouls on maybe 20% of the fouls he takes. He's kinda like Shaq in that yeah, maybe he gets away with sending defenders sprawling...but the defenders are also aware that the only way they have a shot of stopping him is to hit him on every play, and that the refs won't call it.

redmid17: The Pacers play much better at home than on the road. Frankly if the Heat take either game in Indy I would be very surprised.

That's true. But the Heat also play better on the road than the other teams they've played in the postseason. They got two in Indianapolis last year, BTW, so it's not crazy to think that it would happen.

I knew you couldn't help but defend that.  And not even a nod to the idea that maybe he gets some favoritism.  Superstars often do.  Failure to acknowledge it is myopic at best.

I_C_Weener: I will say it was refreshing for LeBron James to have a foul called on him, let alone 5. Didn't he go like 5 games without a single foul called on him this season? That's pretty impressive...even if he rode the bench for 4 of those games. So, 5 games without a single foul. The man must be the best defender the NBA has ever seen.

If you watch him for a while LeBron is actually incredibly good at recognizing when he's beat on a drive and not exacerbating the situation by making a dumb foul.  I don't know if it's athleticism or just the fact that he knows no coach is going to bench him for not sending a guy to the line.  Iguodala has been less famously doing the same thing for a while.

Oh, and I wasn't right when pointing out that the Pacers shot more FTs and were called for the same number of fouls (and fewer techs), when we account for the Pacers' two intentional fouls at the end of regulation. It WASN'T accurate to point out that the Pacers got 46 FTs to the Knicks' 18 in Game 6 of the previous round.

It's not crazy to say either of those things, either. Or to point out that the Bulls/Heat series was even in foul calls the whole series despite the Bulls' gameplan, WHICH THEY ACTUALLY SAID, which was to intentionally foul people to prevent them from ever feeling comfortable. They literally had a gameplan to foul as much as possible...and didn't get called for significantly more fouls than the team that has all these superstars that supposedly always get superstar calls.

/there wasn't as much complaining about refs in this thread as there was in all the Bulls threads
//BTW, James has to exaggerate the contact when Augustin runs into him, because if Augustin falls down, then guess who's much more likely to get a foul called on him?
///sadly, much of the NBA is about playing the refs

I didn't say he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt sometimes. I'm simply saying he gets WAY more sh*t for it than any other star, and he doesn't get near the calls they do. Check out how much more often Durant gets to the line, and NO ONE complains about it or bats an eye, despite the fact that he shoots far more jump shots. But if LeBron gets to the line? It's a conspiracy! Why don't other players get tagged with this, given the facts?

I'm not saying LeBron is the best defender in the league. Most versatile, sure. BUT I am saying that no, he really doesn't commit many defensive fouls. I don't see how anyone could watch the games and think otherwise - if he gets beat, he gets beat. He knows there are other possessions and he's not going to put himself in foul trouble gambling.

The Heat already have enough guys gambling with Wade and Chalmers on the floor together frequently; they don't need him to do it too.

A whopping one more FT a game over the last three years?

Durant took 215 more free throw attempts than LeBron this season. That's a lot.

redmid17: A whopping one more FT a game over the last three years?

a) a FT more per game is pretty damn significant, especially when the guy getting fewer FTs is painted as the guy getting the benefit of the referee doubt while the guy with more isn't.
b) this year, when Durant actually tried to play a bit more like LeBron, getting to the rim more often (shot fewer 3s this year than he did last year...and last year was a shortened season), he took 2.3 more FTs per game. That's a TON. Especially since teams don't want to foul him as much, since he makes a better percentage of them.

BTW, the plus/minus stats for this game are probably the No. 1 reason it's not taken more seriously (though obviously it's better with more information, like a season or career).

Ray Allen, he of the 1/8 shooting and bricking the FT that would've clinched the game, had the best +/- of the game with a +10.

There was a game last season, against the Heat, where Hansbrough had a plus minus of -46 at one point in the 3rd quarter. He finished with a -43. I never really thought plus/minus in basketball was really that useful but I found that supremely appropriate.

He also has the unique advantage of, when he's beat off the dribble, being able to let his man try for a lay-up, then block it.

Yeah but my point is that your way of going at the dummies that always blame refs is to do the same to teams that are playing Miami. Two wrongs don't make a right and complaining about refs is annoying, especially when you won and your rooting for the Miami freakin Heat, who do get a lot of calls based on how they play the game (driving as well as flopping). What next? Are Lakers, Clippers, and Spurs fans going to complain about calls? I hope not.

Funny you should mention that since I know one of the people I quoted whining about the refs is a Spurs fan and IIRC one is either a Lakers or Clippers fan.

I pointed it out when it was the Knicks that were getting hosed in the calls. It's to illustrate that guess what? All teams get calls their way at some point or another, so acting as though the Heat are getting special calls no one else is getting is laughable.

/though that thrown away pass that hit Wade's hand and went out being called Miami ball was ridiculous.

If you would read carefully, you would see I was NOT blaming the refs. I just said Wade knows how to use the opposing players body to shield the ref from seeing him yank and pull.
