Tim- THE biggest thing you need to think about is this: In genesis, it says the earth was made in 7 days.. this is true... but what is 7 days to God? Think about it. Being the supreme being and creator that He is, He has no need for time. The bible was given to man by God, but not exactly written BY God, therefore there can be mistakes. To the man who received the genesis verses to write, it might have taken 7 days for God to show him the creation, or maybe God's 7 days were different from man's. The big bang, dinosaurs, aliens, evolution... while you want to believe that these are ungodly things, how do you know that God couldn't have made them. Don't you think that since God went through the trouble to create a universe with LAWS (physics, etc), He would make a good example and stay within those laws for creation. Maybe mankind was the first of His sentient creations, but why do you insist that we are the last? And whose to say that God didn't put these things here for us to find? Maybe He wants us to look at the big bang theory, evolution, alien life, etc, just so that we can make use of our free thought, of our minds. Be open to things and whenever you see a scientific theory that seems to question God or the bible, think about this, all those things were put into place BY God, so how can they question Him?

PS:
We humans are a bunch of selfish bastards who not only look a gift horse in the mouth, but then kick the teeth to see how long they stay in.

Sorry, just felt like getting that off my chest, isn't even part of this nice religion flame war.

Most Memorable Moments:: Being blessed by the Pope in a mass ceremony and being a celebrity reporter for PM magazine.
Beliefs:: America and the recent (3-4) year turn around back into the conservative Nation it once was. I was nausiated by the unwashed denim clad masses while growing up in the '60s & '70s. They were a boil on the buttocks of our country and now that real Americans are waking up and taking back what is rightfully ours - both here and abroad - I feel like I am emerging from a life-long imprisonment and feeling sunlight on my face for the first time.
Family:: I am twice divorced but find much more compassionate company with my four cats. They don't bite as much as my ex-wives.
Financial Status:: My experience in the entertainment industry is well recognized. Many people in 'the biz' envy my credentials with Disney and I can see them actually turn green as they survey the photos of me with many celebrities in the industry. I know many of the key people and main players in this business - and, more importantly, they know me.

Well, I'm glad we got back to discussing this new ass, Tim Klein.

Well Farkers, you restored my faith in a tired thread. It was very refreshing to see an idiot like that smothered in tolerance. Bravo.
-------------

The lack of tolerance is all Klein's. This is a guy - all too typical of his kind - who lays some sort of monopolistic claim on christianity and the bible. I think SIXTY MILLION AMERICAN CATHOLICS might have a little disagreement with your interpretations, Timmy-boy. Especially those Jesuits who man the Vatican observatory, where one of their missions is to LOOK FOR LIFE OUTSIDE EARTH. Gee - I guess getting blessed by the Pope mustn't mean as much to you now. Tim seems to be a guy who's merged his personal frustrations with his fundamentalist security blanket and come up with the same tired culturally-conservative right-wing craziness that's become a cliche.

Hey Tim - if (as you say) George Bush is the 2nd greatest president of our times... let me ask you - how can you support a guy with several arrests in his past? With an abortion in his past? A man who has lied under OATH? Aren't these things supposed to MEAN something to you? Or are they just empty convictions?

Hey Tim - if (as you say) the 30,000plus dead in the Iranian earthquake was "payback"... how can you believe in a god that thus kills innocent children? Or are your beliefs just empty convictions?

Hey Tim - if (as you say) this country is going back to its conservative roots... who can you claim allegiance to? The deists and (worse!) Unitarians who founded it? Or is that heritage you claim just a convenient... empty... conviction.

Hey Tim - if (as you say) people envy you ... why suddenly edit your profile? Seems like something you'd be proud of. It APPEARS though, you lack the courage of your convictions.

Hey Tim - feel free to be an agressive redneck. Just don't start whining when people get in your face about it.

Tim Klein doesn't whine -apparently, he runs away.

"Earth's solar system falls within the habitable zone, but is younger and further from the galactic centre than the average complex-life-bearing planet. Dr Lineweaver, a research astronomer at the University of NSW, compared their findings with the search for signs of life on Mars."

So far as we know, Earth is the only life bearing planet known to exist. I do think that there is life out there, but we have found it yet, so this statement is pretty much bunk. Computer simulations are nice, but I'm sure that there are other simulations giving different results.

I for one sincerely doubt Tim Klein (the real Tim Klein) would read Fark.

Fark makes Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell cry.

our Tim Klein is just the reincarnation of Lily Conner.

Reading through the creation story again, I decided to put this idea to the test. On the 3rd day it says god created plants, but didn't create the sun until the next day. If you are suggesting that one "god day" is figurative and actually stands for thousands of years (time enough for evolution, dinos, etc..) then that would suggest that plants lived that amount of time without the sun..which is, of course, ridiculous since plants need the sun for chlorophyll.

2004-01-02 04:07:40 PM
bdbthinker- your looking at it as a steady 7 days, maybe there were plants, then not to long after (say.. minutes to seconds) there was the sun. It may have taken 7 days for the man who wrote genesis to receive the info, so how long would it take for God to explain that he created a bunch of little green things, how detailed did He get on the whole issue. It's a big issue to explain to a person and therefore may have taken a while.

The question on how long it took to actually write the account is irrelevant. The scripture clearly marks the creation in "days", so the question: is this a literal day, or figurative?.

If the creation was only minutes or seconds per day, then when does evolution, dinos, etc.. happen? We know for a fact that dinos ruled the earth for nearly 200mil years. The accounts, either way don't add up. But this also brings up another point. If a "day" in the bible is not meant to be taken literally, what in the bible is? How do we know jesus wasn't figurative for an enlightened individual who knew the way but was not necessarily the son of god. How do we know the 10 commandments are exact laws of god and not just figurative guidlines?

oh man..i got way too much time on my hands to think about this stuff :)

ThatDevGuy:

I had to come back and respond to this. C.S. Lewis deposed of this viewpoint fifty years ago. If Jesus is NOT the son of God, he's nothing more than a liar or even a madman:

Logical fallacy--it's a false trilemma. There choices other than the three offered by Lewis, so the argument falls apart. For example, Jesus could have been severely misquoted, or honestly mistaken.

And so ends the day I got to watch Tim Klein get OWN3D on Fark.

Folks, this was a lot of fun.

It's been awhile since I've seen someone leading so aggresively with their ass, they get it handed back to them on a plate -and then run off.

I hope Mr. Klein spends his evening reflecting on how stupid it is to enter threads by hurling insults and negative generalities... especially when his profile revealed him to be a low-life showbiz wannabe.

Sweet dreams Farkers -ya did some good today.

I heard from the History Channel that Jesus travelled to India during his unnacounted "lost years". He apparently took a lot of his teachings from the Buddhists. They found these old Buddhists scroll talking of a man that had a large beard, from Isreal, that was there at the time that Jesus was around, but out of the Bible. Twas very interesting.

Okay, you're gonna love this -I am a Buddhist. Mahayana Buddhist, although my belief structure leans more toward Buddhist/Taoist now. I'm not practicing or anything (too lazy and bewildered by karma)-but I've heard the same story. Did it happen? Hmmm, I dunno. I mean, 12 years of Christ's life are unaccounted for, but I'm not sure if he actually traveled to India or met Buddha Guatama... or had a beard if he did.

I think Christ was real and existed and stuff, I just don't think he was the THE son of God. More like a prophet or something. Besides, there's just too many people popping up with similar messages and ideas -all from seperate locations. Who knows? What IS enlightenment?

Is it endless compassion and understanding? Is it understanding of self? Is it a state of self-awareness or actuality? A state of determination and judgement?

The mind reels.

I know this much- there is no way, mathmatical, theological, geometric or perceptually that we are the only sentient life in the universe -let alone, the only life at all.

That's like saying, "Oh look! That star is a Sun to other planets, but it's not hot like OUR sun! Our Sun is special and the universe beyond it is simply illusion." Uh, yeah... right.

If a Christian God exists, then he/she endowed me with the power to resolve certain problems with my own abilities and address other problems with my immeadiate perception.

SURVEY SAID: We are proof of life in space and spiritual texts exist to explain the whole of creation as we experience it -not what is beyond. God provides us with the first step and we followthrough with our souls. Which is what God keep telling us to do... isn't it? Jesus, Allah, Buddha?

Oh no, wait... Buddha was bigger on that than the other two and never claimed to be God.

Oh don't get me started.

But I don't believe in God. I'm a non-theist.

Which isn't the same thing as being Atheist. I'll save that for another thread.

Don't listen to ANYONE who tells you that the things you are trying to understand or conceptualize are not valid because they are not addressed in anyone's "scripture". People like that are a discredit to their belief structure and a poor example, at best, of how religion can provide enlightment.

Dinosaurs are real -their called "Literalists".

Oh CRAP. I got back on topic.

2004-01-03 12:52:15 AM
I also have another theory.

Tim Klein isn't Tim Klein -but someone who wants to GET BACK at Tim Klein.

Think about it.
