No.

Rich people can afford doctors and hence will live longer. Poor people die sooner and have less to give. So this is another tax break for the rich.

No. Everybody pays.

Yes. Signed

Only if we get to give them Viking funerals on their 100th birthday.  Yes, they have to be on the flaming craft.

Bad idea. What happens in 50 years when scientists come up with a way to live forever? Huh? What then, genius.

Whatever happened to the idea of equal treatment under the law?

How many centenarians are making enough money beyond deductible medical expenses to really pay taxes?

wxboy: How many centenarians are making enough money beyond deductible medical expenses to really pay taxes?

This most of them don't pay taxes anyway.

2013-05-22 01:09:10 PM
Can we lower that to 53? Because I'm 53.

2013-05-22 01:13:32 PM
Nope. If I have to pay taxes as an expatriate who doesn't earn a single cent within the United States, then they have to pay too.

2013-05-22 01:25:35 PM
I'm that asshole that signs literally every petition offered to me, whether I agree with it or not, so consider me on board.

So, do we cut off Social Security and Medicare benefits at 100 too?

Make it 200 and I'll sign.

Explain to me why age should be a factor in whether or not a person should pay income taxes.

2013-05-22 02:38:40 PM
Make it retirerment and I'm with you

Why would a 100-year-old be working enough to be paying income taxes?

LoneWolf343: Why would a 100-year-old be working enough to be paying income taxes?

This. While you are at it throw in Eskimo, lesbian, vampire hunting, lion tamers there are probably as many of them paying income tax. Idiot.

This is moronic, and you should feel bad.

My grandmother just turned 100 and has some money so she would be getting a kick out these replies. If she wasn't blind, deaf, and suffering from dementia.

So the rich can buy hire centenarian as tax shelters.  Last year I made $1 but grandma Smith made $14 million which I manage.

2013-05-22 03:41:41 PM
I don't quite see the problem that this is supposed to solve. You've picked an arbitrary age and proposed this ... why?

Help me out, subby, I don't see any compelling reason for this other than "Hey, this would be cool".

2013-05-22 03:49:45 PM
A hat tip from the US Gov for reaching 100 years old.

My great-great-aunt who lived to 110 used to get signed birthday letters every year from Nixon, just for ... existing, I guess.

2013-05-22 03:58:27 PM
Nope. If they still have an income at 100, they should pay taxes on it.

2013-05-22 04:12:36 PM
No.  If this passes that rat bastard Dick Cheney would live to be 100 just to spite the US Government.

NobleHam: Nope. If they still have an income at 100, they should pay taxes on it.

Statistics, please.  I don't recall any exceptionally wealthy centenarians.

New Mexico has exempted them from State income tax since 2001.

2013-05-22 06:25:47 PM
How about this:

If you want out of income tax, then you relinquish your right to vote.

If you don't want to pay for this country's public health and well being, then you aren't allowed to determine the course of its future.

2013-05-22 07:13:33 PM
Screw that.

2013-05-22 07:33:47 PM
My grandmother stopped paying taxes at 75.  She decided the government had collected on her for enough years.  She then went on to live to 101 and kept collecting her Social Security, while using Medicare.  Could not reason with the old bat.  Probate was a nightmare.

It doesn't matter. If they don't make any money then their taxes are nominal.

No.

2013-05-22 08:23:03 PM
Excuse my ignorance, but do you even have to pay income taxes if you have no income?  I just assumed not...

2013-05-22 09:34:01 PM
Wrong tag subby, should've gone with Dumbass.

Consider yourself lucky the site doesn't accept dissenting signatures and adjust totals accordingly, or else that wellspring of 5 votes might be at risk.

2013-05-22 10:50:07 PM
Surprised noone has pointed this out yet but corporations are people under the law and plenty of them are 100+ years old.

So uh, no.

2013-05-22 10:51:08 PM
Also, Hero tag for yourself? That's a bit presumptuous.

I assumed that the Hero tag was for the folks who have been lucky(?) enough to reach the hundred years mark. It's still a ridiculous petition, however.

I should sign it as "Weedlord Bonerhitler".

It would incentivise the science behind longevity, which is a good thing.
But it could also be abused by rich people, so...

Because People in power are Stupid: No.

This.
We already live in a nation where corporations are treated like people.   I can cook up a dozen ways that the wealthy will scam the system to turn their low-taxes into no-taxes.

2013-05-23 05:13:28 AM
trolling or plain stupidity?

It's time for you to come with some kind of argument for your proposal subby, because no one here can see how this makes any sense.

2013-05-23 08:02:36 AM
An absolutely ridiculous petition, unless subby can reasonably justify why age discrimination should affect ones taxes.
