Wow, McCain's come along way with technology in the last 5 years. Maybe he should give lessons to Gingrich.

He's lucky.  When I was a kid, we didn't have any apps.

Gingrich already has some technology figured out.  Whenever his computer gets a virus, he just buys another one.

To be fair, that's usually the least annoying solution.

You're thinking of his marriages.

Apple liked this question because it assured them that nobody in government has a hope or prayer of ever figuring out what laws they broke.

/If you can't handle apps, you can't handle their tax filings.

As an American living overseas, I resent the fact that I have to pay taxes on my foreign earnings that I have to declare the balances of all my foreign bank accounts to the US Government.

Forced, unnecessary upgrades are annoying.

So, basically, you're aggravated that your more complicated living arrangements have more complicated tax requirements.

I have two possible solutions for you (aside from "quit whining about  it"):

1. Move back to the U.S.
2. Get the fark out and stay there

Jesus, you have to press a button every couple of weeks.  How terrible.

I used to be the biggest apple fan, but that was many many years ago. Like 20. They've changed a lot, and not in a good way. (I'm old).

That poor chicken cloud.

Ladies and gentleman, what we have here is former Presidential candidate and 600 term Senator John McCain derailing a committee hearing to whine about his Angry Birds app auto-updating every few weeks.

Are you having to pay income taxes in your country of residence or something?  Because you definitely don't have to pay US sales or property taxes (on local property) and you're exempt from federal withholding, so even if you are that's a relatively small amount of double taxation.

Am I the only one who thought the journalist was trying to say that exchange was friendly and gentle ribbing, rather than an actual complaint by a confused old man?

McCain annoys me a lot of the time, but what annoys me more is out of context whining here on FARK.

Derailing?  Seriously?  An offhanded throwaway comment in the midst of the entire Senate lining up to take turns fluffing Apple?

Where the fark does him complaining about updates fit into the relevance of this discussion?

I have a feeling this is nothing more than a dog and pony show. A feel good, like our Government is looking out for the American tax payer by going after big mega corporation money.

WWE of politics.

With Windows 95: a mediocre, incremental improvement with an out-sized marketing campaign.

This explains why McCain's airplanes kept dropping out of the sky.

What?  I've actually started going over to Apple products.  They used to be such weak sauce that I didn't consider them computers.  Now I run VMWare Fusion on my Mac and virtualize my work desktop.  It's pretty pimp.  I've done it on Windows and it's not quite as good.

And when you get into any kind of trouble overseas the nice people at the State Department will help you out, so suck it up, pay your taxes, and move on.  If you don't like it, get citizenship in another country and renounce your American citizenship.  As you happen to use various governmental services (ranging from absentee ballot to whatever you make use of during any visits to America), suck it up and pay your share.

I lost what little respect I had for Apple when they abandoned PowerPC processors. Or Apple's consumers. Not sure which.

You're with cranky grandpa on pulling the most popular company that's evading taxes here in the US just to ask them tech support questions? This was honestly on par with the stupid tax questions they were asking.

a Senate panel's  grilling of Apple's top brass over the company's offshore tax avoidance practices

But the senators weren't so kind when it came to talking about Apple's offshore cash storage practices, which are legal but have cost the U.S. Treasury billions in revenue, according to members of subcommittee.

OK.  Stupid question.

WTF are they hoping to accomplish.  Drag a CEO in to testify about policies put in place BY CONGRASSHOLES for what?  Should Apple not take advantage of policies put in place by Congrassholes to encourage companies like APPLE?

WHAT ABOUT THE JOBS????  (employment, not the dead guy).

Are these the same Congrassholes who suggested Buffet should 'write a check'?

Billions of dollars in lost revenue and the widening income gap is hilarious. McCain should know.
