"I can't believe I'm getting a humor prize from the Kennedy Center," Burnett said in a statement. "It's almost impossible to be funnier than the people in Washington."

Yep, she's still got it.

I remember some of my favorite episodes of her show were when she had Roddy McDowall on. They had great chemistry.

I LOVED the Carol Burnett show.
The skits with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway were hilarious.
I also like the commercial parodies.

Well deserved for Ms. Burnett.

But I have to take exception to the harshness on Jerry Lewis.  Yes, he can be abrasive, but while I was never
a fan of his style of humour when I was younger I have come around to appreciate it, especially after learning
about all the technical innovations in film making he spawned (video playback), as well as his sheer business
savvy at keeping control of the rights of his films.  And then there's all the charity work he's done, so there.

So much this. The Dentist skit was one of the funniest moments on Television ever. Poor Harvey couldn't even keep a straight face through that routine.

That show had some of the greatest skit comedians ever all assembled to bring joy to the viewing public. I still have find memories of watching this with my family as a kid.

And Tina Fey and Steve Martin?

Yeah she deserved the award a looooooong time ago.

And I still remember seeing the the GWTW sketch - just hilariously funny. 'Oh it's just something I had hanging around...' Gold Jerry. GOLD!

Yeah, it is surprising that some other lefty mouthpiece didn't get it. Which, has been the case in recent years.

Carol Burnett has been around the talk shows lately promoting her book about her late daughter. So, she has more visible that usual. That is the only reason she gets it this year.

She should have been one of the first recipients if it really is America's foremost award for humor. Certainly, more than most of the others on that list.

And she is a sweetheart in person.  Signed my cast when I broke my arm in soccer.

CSB -  In the 8th grade, went to school with both of her daughters and very un-Hollywood.

Fixed.  I think that Steve Martin, though coming after her, isn't as big of slight, if at all.  But Tina Fey before her is ridiculous.

I assumed it was a direct reference to Lewis' comments about women not being funny (because he thinks of them as baby-making machines or whatever idiot thing he said.)

The Why Not Guy: Those Eunice sketches... holy cow, they were amazing. Funny and heartbreaking all at once.

Those sketches always made me uncomfortable. The resentment that went from simmering to full scale ugly didn't seem like a good place for comedy to come from. That's the only part of her show i didn't like.

Those are some pretty glaring omissions right there. Ellen's brother was funnier than her when he was on The Daily Show. And whatever happened to A. Whitney Brown? God, that guy was smart

They really were a forerunner to darker comedies about families and their dysfunction, especially "Roseanne", which covered much the same ground of the trials of a lower-class family.

Unfortuntely, they all spawned the terrible "Mama's Family", which took the setup and turned it into a throroughlly cliched sitcom.

Agreed and how did Steve Martin and Billy Crystal get the award ahead of Bill Cosby?  Tina Fey and Will Ferrell win and Robin Williams isn't even on the list, how is that possible. Even if you don't Robin Williams humor he is much funnier then either of those two.

I dunno looking at that list I'd think the 97 award went to George Burns, and the 96 award went to Fatty Arbuckle.

Andy Griffith radio sketches (primitive form of stand up) are freaking hysterical,  and while I don;t care who gets it before whom,  the fact that Mel Brooks doesn't already have one, and indeed, didn't get the innaugural one, call the legitimacy of the whole award into question
