That's really uncalled for...think about how the bag of dicks would feel about it.

Fun fact: "Nancy Grace" is actually an onomatopoeia. It's the exact sound a bag of rotting trash and feces makes when you throw it down a flight of stairs.

Coming as it did from a teenage girl recently kidnapped and repeatedly raped, I thought it was devastating in its polite understatement.

Not taking the troll bait and sticking to the high road is better than sinking to Nancy Grace's level and doing it in a mature, level headed way is bonus points.

Yes it was.

I do admire Elizabeth Smart. She has handled herself well in the years since her kidnapping and has really tried to use her history to make a difference.

She's also LDS. From a Mormon girl, "I don't appreciate you bringing this all up", in this context, is practically giving her the finger.

I wish Nancy Grace would just friggin OD on a bunch of pills.
I really hate her. I know her personality type. I loathe her and her ilk. I really really wish she would just get off the air.
But first, I would like to see Chris Brown and her start dating.

Ignoring asking the question WHY people would ever appear on Nancy Grace's show, she seems like a soft target that could be played if studied just like Bill O'Reily was on fox news.  Nancy Grace's record as a prosecutor is pretty spotty.

This is actually a decent example of how ubiquitous the hyperbolic language of normal message board and blog chatter really is. Because someone wasn't directly compared to Hitler while being called Roseanne Barr's taint cheese, we literally don't recognize it as a tell off.

I can't stand the sight of Nancy Grace let alone her voice. I've often thought of molding my toilet to resemble Nancy's face, with her mouth agape. I figure if she is always gonna be spouting out shiat, it might as well be my shiat.

In February 2012, she married a Scotsman, Matthew Gilmour, at a spur-of-the-moment private ceremony in a Mormon temple in Oahu.

No she didn't. Somebody doesn't know how Mormon temples work.

That's actually the beauty of it.  Nancy Grace feeds off of people getting confrontational.  She made her point and shut her up.

Alternatively, it was a really farking weak tell off.  It's definitely one of the two.

I'm pretty sure most people in this thread would agree Nancy Grace needs a bit more than a courteous "I don't appreciate that."  I guess I was just hoping for more.  Something more recent woulda been good too.

It could still be done within a week or so, or even a couple of days.  Compared to Vegas weddings, no, not so spur of the moment, but compared to engagements that are months or years long, it could be considered spur of the moment.

Maybe they already had their interviews and temple recommends, but then spur of the moment decided to get married in Hawaii instead of SLC.  That is still possible, and doesn't negate the statement.

Exactly.  It is the politeness of it that ironically gives it a bigger STFU factor.  "this is how you should behave"

My grandfather-in-law had a great story of this type.  He was visiting some old silver mine once and as they were riding some sort of trolly cart down, he had a lot of abdominal cramping and had to pass gas.  He was not the type to do this in his own home, much less in public, but apparently something he ate while on this trip disagreed with him.

So he passed gas quietly and apparently it stunk to high heaven.  A few seconds later, a man tapped him on the shoulder and asked, "you're feeling not well, aren't you sir?".  He said true.  Then the man said "but you're feeling much better now, aren't you sir?".

it was an old timey way of saying "did you fart?  don't do it again".  Love that story.

If you want to spend your time on something worthwhile, here is a link to Elizabeth Smart's remarks at the Johns Hopkins human trafficking forum.  The video runs 12:50, and is surprisingly engaging.  This is the speech that gave rise to the throw-away line in TFA about her having spoken out against abstinence education.  Her remarks are actually more nuanced than that.

I know, right?  She escaped after being abducted and raped for a year to be a member of a religion that shows 18-year-old boys more respect than grandmothers and has a history of endorsing polygamy?  Wtf?

Bear in mind that Nancy Grace was trying to trigger some traumatized, emotional response.  If Smart lost her composure in any direction it would be ratings and high-fives for Nancy Grace.

Responding like a cross between Spock and Dear Abby was probably the best thing she could have done.  She didn't need to be crude, because there was enough of that on the show already; all she had to do is cast it in sharp relief by saying something polite and civilized.

Elizabeth Smart is totally cute. I'd lock her up and have my way with her for a year and-
