Some of the yahoo comments on this one are gold. I guess that's true of most yahoo commenters. The derp is strong with them.

Just like Abraham Lincoln went free after his Union Army committed atrocities against the South. But thank goodness for the bravery of John Wilkes Booth.

So you would let the Marxists win? And how has that worked out for the world in the last hundred years? Ah, yes . . . a hundred million people murdered.

US puppet. Read the history of his rise to power and see what US agencies helped him become the murderer that he is.

I'm guessing Caleb Herod is trolling, and doing a fine job of it.  What's his Fark handle?

It's too bad he's not sitting on a lot of oil.  Then we would find that the world is better off without him for sure.

Now, let's see. Which countries do not have extradition treaties with Guatemala? You know, in case you want to find this US-trained and funded mass murderer.

In all fairness, it's not a bloody technicality - he was without representation for a short time during the case after his lawyer was thrown out of the courtroom by the judge.  The proceedings should have immediately stopped until replacement legal representation was arranged and present.  He'll still be found guilty.

The funny thing about that movie is I didn't see the ending as a good thing happening. I thought it indicated that if you thought what you just saw was bad, wait till you see the real shiat hit the fan for the native populations.

Only if he was refusing to sell it to the US or threatening to value the oil in Euros.

As a Farker currently living in Guatemala, this sickens me, in part because of the massive demonstrations that are probably gonna make commuting to the capital this afternoon a mess.

Also, I assume any Nazi war criminals still alive are now eligible for retrial?

Ah yes. Efrain Rios Montt, aka the "Fundie Fuhrer". Ordered his death squads to grab native babies by the ankles and swing their heads straight into poles and trees to kill them.

A deliberate, intentional plan to commit genocide against the heathen tribes who refused to covert to Republican Jeesus, all with the blessing and backing of Jerry Falwell and Ronald Reagan up north.

You know. "Family Values".

I don't know what you are on about, killing babies is good for the environment. Guatemalan Planned Parenthood at its best.

I think Mel Gibson agrees with you.  That's why the family heads away from the ships.

He'll be dead before he walks out of the military hospital. He knows it already. The court is just playing games to get media attention.

in the same way that the more "civilized" mayans (with their cities of stone and advance culture) destroyed the world of the forest people to sacrifice them for their gods, a more civilized people was coming to destroy the maya's world and sacrifice them to their god.

I think that was the intended point. Wasn't the main character made out to be a sort of harbinger of the 'end of the world?'

US puppet. I hope he has a sharp stick up his ass for the rest of his life. Death would be too good.

Nasty war from what I recall in the news in the 80's and from what I read.

So in other words, I'm okay with this.

2013-05-21 02:14:37 PM
People like this guy and Quadaffi, Bernie Madoff, etc, get thirty or fourty years to inflict damage, and don't get punished until they're like 80 years old. Seems like a sweet deal...live large for 4 decades, then, for the last for or five years you have to 'suffer' in a prison hospital, until you die.

2013-05-21 02:18:09 PM
So he was an American puppet? So shouldn't Carter and Reagan be convicted of this first for supplying the money and troops and training and "direction" to commit the genocide?

If their trials were stopped halfway through because the judge recused herself, I suppose.

It's because of things like this that Qaddafi ended up with a bayonet up his rectum, and Saddam Hussein got "a fair trial, and then hanged," as his countrymen wished. Justice and genocidal dictators often don't mix well.

2013-05-21 07:54:53 PM
There are a lot of legal systems in the world but not a single justice system.
