Ladies and gentlemen.  THATS how you rob a farking convenience store!

2013-05-21 10:19:12 AM
I was going to say how could anyone be stupid enough to let somebody take over their gas station so fast that the check hadn't even cleared before all their shiat got hawked.

Then I saw that it was in Minnesota.

$3.85 per gallon is a discount? That's $0.40 more than here in Virginia. Sheesh.

$3.85 gas a huge steal?
Wow its 4.29 in Waconia right now in most places. Wow I'm glad I live on the east coast  (3.59)

$3.23 in CenLa

It's been around 3.85 here in Ohio lately.  Between that and 3.60.  Glad there are regulations limiting how cheaply gas can be sold.  Too bad there aren't regulations limiting how expensive it can get, or how fast the price can climb when supplies aren't actually being affected by anything.  At all.

Am I missing something?  $3.85 a gallon is considered low?
That's about 50 cents MORE than the going rate around me.

2013-05-21 10:30:00 AM
Well, if the previous owners were stupid enough to hand over the keys before the check cleared, it serves them right. Only thing you can really punish them for is the bounced check.

I assume many states have this law,  it purpose is to prevent a big company cornering the market and driving out small gas stations that can't have a lost leader or need a larger profit margin to stay afloat.

MN has the 2nd highest gas in the nation,   the state shut down our two refineries or something.

gas prices are set based on city, or do you not drive out of town? i can go one town over and the prive with be up to 10 cents off (thats pre liter were I live). go from a small to a big city and that might change even more due to diffrances in blend. A low smog blend for example is sold in cities but not small or rural towns from what I understand. it also costs more to make and lower population areas dont have smog issues.

also if you are half awake you will notice that all gas stations set their price to pretty much the same thing in each town at midnight. then their respective holding companys will call them to fark with it all day based on sales projections and competotors prices. its pretty complicated just to get people to buy potato chips, soda and cigs from you instead of the other guy when they decide to fill up.

2013-05-21 10:35:52 AM
$3.85 is about 40 cents more than I pay around here. Good job on making sure that check cleared first. When I bought my home they didnt even let me step foot in it until everything was checked out and the check cleared.

2013-05-21 10:39:08 AM
Here in the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix), the prices rose to $3.42 the other day for the Holiday weekend.

What kind of idiot would let them take over before the check cleared?

Two refineries near Chicago are out of service, just in time for Memorial Day. There's a gas shortage to accompany our refinery shortage.

That's because we have some of the lowest gas taxes in the country. Why have the people using the roads pay for them when you can get the non-drivers to subsidize them via the general sales tax?

I love non-violent criminals.  I really have no problem (other than the ethical one) with crime like this.  I know, it sounds contradictory, but this is the crime we should be worried about, not kidnappings, rapes etc.

I would love to come home and watch the local news and hear about stories like this one, Nigerian type scams and bicycle thefts.

If I were the judge I would go semi easy on these guys and prevent that escrow company from doing business.

That actually makes more sense, because non-drivers benefit just as much from the road network as drivers do. That is, unless you live on a self-sufficient farm. Shipping trucks contribute far more to the wear and tear on a road than commuters do

Non-drivers benefit from roads but they don't benefit just as much. Drivers get an additional benefit when they travel on the roads.

The price of the goods non-drivers purchase will include a portion for gas taxes, unless you think the shipping companies are eating that expense.

Yeah this kinda crime strikes me as original, clever and well thought out. If they get caught Ill be disappointed in them. But kinda dosent seem worth it for $50k now $50 million is another story.

If you are going to scam someone beats getting punched in the gut at a bar, getting beaten by oranges by Bobo, or sleeping with the landlord

Just saying....

Not only do gas taxes pay for road maintenance and upkeep in Illinois, but the state lottery kicks in as well. And prices are STILL ridiculous.
$4.39/gal in Chicago

While you were checking how much less your local gas is than $3.85, the same thieves came to your house and ransacked your stash in another room.

Paid $4.22 at a Shell/Jewel Express in the city this a.m. As the State gas tax is based off a percentage of the retail price, farking-A this state should be rolling in the dough. Instead, we r as broke as a joke.

Heh...a law school buddy of mine went to work for a pretty prestigious Boston firm.

His second month, he almost got fired, since there's no good way to explain in a firm-wide meeting to a not-so-bright senior partner how checks work...

Years ago I read a book by some career criminal who worked this scam for decades. His favorite was furniture stores. He only got caught once in a while, but the last time was good for many, many years. Criminals who don't drop bodies don't get so much attention.

The prices seemed too good to be true and they were.

Last Saturday a Waconia Super America sold gas for $3.85 a gallon

As someone that payed $3.06 a gallon to fill up yesterday, I laugh in these peoples general direction.
