Almost Everybody Poops: That was Pat Robertson stupid.

THIS

I don't care.

Fart_Machine: skullkrusher: Fart_Machine: skullkrusher: no, it's not a matter of forgetting about anything but the claims of Pat Robertson and company in the past were probably not on her mind when she made a CLEAR reference to an ongoing topic in the current news cycle

In fact, if she were going for a Robertson "joke" it would have been even more crass than what it obviously was - an attempt to make a joke about the IRS situation

I never knew you could read minds but as I said earlier it was in poor taste.

It doesn't take a mind reader to understand that she is referring to a topical news story and not making some lame Pat Robertson joke.

If only it were just Pat Robertson.  Natural disasters are regularly attributed to liberal policies by fundies.

I keep reading this as Rob Pattinson.  I was really confused at first.

Pumpernickel bread: PreMortem: Pumpernickel bread: PreMortem: jehovahs witness protection: Liberals on Fark to defend her in 3, 2, 1

See, it's funny because a lot of conservatives think natural disasters are "controlled" by an invisible sky wizard. She was mocking their ignorance, not the death and destruction she had no knowledge of at the time.

No need to defend her, just pointing out the fallacy of this faux outrage.

No.  A handful of crazies that identify with the republican party because we can't stop them does not constitute "a lot".  In the same vein, hurricanes and earthquakes must really hate liberals.

50% is a "handful"?

I'll just change my original from a lot to half.

Did you read the article?  First, it is a huge, and in my opinion misguided, leap to suggest that because one self-identifies as an evangelical or born again christian that one also believes natural disasters are the wrath of a god.  Second, the sample is hardly representative of the entire country, and third, even the article admits those numbers are unusually high.

I stand by what I said - those believing "act of God" are a very small minority.  Also, could just as easily play the guilt by association game with Dems.  I bet that doctor recently convicted of twisting the heads off live born babies self-identifies as a democrat.

You obviously don't know evangelicals. I work with six. They ALL believe global climate change is a lie because god controls the weather.

Find me one prominent evangelical who also believes in man made climate change and I'll accept your premise. Otherwise, your argument is invalid.

Bloody William: How many preachers would be saying this was punishment for making gay marriage legal if it was in a more liberal and less statistically common natural disaster area? In fact, let's forget the hypothetical. How many preachers HAVE said this in the past?

The comment was in poor taste so soon and poorly written, but it seemed to be poking at that old chestnut that gets thrown out every farking time there's a natural disaster while a fundamentalist has an angry erection from dudes.

Yeah, I honestly think it would have been funnier coming from Jon Stewart or Colbert, because they're known satirists, or even with a 'satire' hashtag, but it wasn't a bad joke. Just turned out to be utterly tasteless when the details came in. Foot-in-mouth happens to everyone, and she honestly apologized, so yeah, I'm moving on.

zeroman987: Pants full of macaroni!!: Bloody William: Obama, because he worked in Chicago and was in politics there, made conservatives obsess over "Chicago-style politics" and paint the entire city as something out of Sin City with unions. It's another phrase they don't understand or think about, just throw it out like it's a magic word to hex liberals.

In all fairness, they've hated Chicago long before Obama emerged from it.  Mayor Daley and all that.

They hate Chicago because it is the city is where the best and brightest people that want to stay in the Midwest go. They are pissed that not only are their kids becoming libruls, but that they are living with ethnic and racial minorities and the gheys. They are also pissed its happening in their own backyard and not on the coasts, which would be easier to ignore.

The people in downstate illinois hate chicago because chicago supports the rest of the state and they resent it. The only people that pay their keep downstate are the professors and the farmers. The rest of the state is pretty much a bunch of out of work factory workers that are on disability or addicted to drugs, or both. Say what you will about chicago, but at least it isn't Illitucky.

I'm sure this will offend many. They might be the best and brightest, but the biggest thing that I remember from my trip to Chicago is that I don't think I saw 1 attractive person the entire time I was there.  My 16 year old was the one who brought this up and damn if he wasn't right once I started looking around.  Ugly people everywhere I looked. Must be those death dogs and foot deep pizza's they eat out there.
For as lame as living in SLC and UT is, there are hot women EVERYWHERE here. Everywhere you look.  They won't have sex with you, and if they do they want to get married after, but at least the human landscape is very nice to look at.

Midwest fatties aren't attractive.  If you want a decent hotty density you must travel to the coasts (where people don't get hitched at 17 and start shooting out babies).

I love the butt-hurt from the comments. "typical liberal' seems to be the most common. Personally I hate it when a comedian apologizes for a joke that doesn't go over instead of telling the complainers to get a sense of gallows humor. Honestly what she should have said is that the tornado was targeting a bunch of bloody idiots who can't seem to learn from their previous generations mistakes of building their homes where nature likes to practice developing it's latest and greatest leaf blower technology.

This kind of "too soon" stuff is fine on a place like Fark, or in a closed FB group, but you don't do that kind of shiat on Twitter. It can't do anything but bite you on the ass.

Not to mention that it's kind of callous.
