skullkrusher: Fart_Machine: skullkrusher: Fart_Machine: skullkrusher: I don't see any reason to think she was making a joke about what some yahoo fundie said

Apart from the long tradition of yahoo fundies saying exactly that.  But hey I guess it works both ways.

yeah, no reason to think she was referring to something aside from the story which has dominated headlines for the past week.

I know.  Everybody forgot about all those other previous incidents.  Sort attention span I guess.

no, it's not a matter of forgetting about anything but the claims of Pat Robertson and company in the past were probably not on her mind when she made a CLEAR reference to an ongoing topic in the current news cycle

In fact, if she were going for a Robertson "joke" it would have been even more crass than what it obviously was - an attempt to make a joke about the IRS situation

While I actually agree with you (please, don't make me do that), does it really f*cking matter to the imbeciles who are outraged?  They want their lib blood - the reasons matter as much to them as a single miscarriage in Latin America does for population control.

JimStarkBand: mediablitz: JimStarkBand: I don't get to say this often:

Classy move, Glen Beck.  Good job.

It was a tasteless joke that, had this been a more 'commonplace' overhyped natural disaster would have been hysterical 24 hours later.  However, it wasn't 24 hours later, and it wasn't a typical tornado.  I didn't like when NJ got mocked for getting hurricaned, I didn't like those who tried to say God hates liberals for it, and I don't like that tweet.  But goddamnit (this time) Glen Beck is on the right side, IMO.  Bad bad joke that was made too soon, and was a mistake.

Which is why she very quickly apologized. A sincere apology.

fark Glen Beck. He only gives a shiat because it was a "liberal". When he calls out Pat Robertson or Michelle Bachmann, I'll give him credit.

And instead oftaking advantage of a chance to rake her over the coals, he stood up and asked people to back off.

It was ITFA.

'Leave lizz winstead alone,' tweeted notorious conservative commentator Glen Beck on Monday night. 'Clearly bad joke. How many of us has made a joke we wished we could take back? She has to feel awful.#castfirststone.'
I doubt it was just conservatives raising ire, but he spoke out against a backlash that would have in some ways benefited him.

Did you... think he 'called out' Lizz Winstead?

Shame on me for not reading the whole article. I stand by my statement, however. I see this as a way for him to make a "joke" in the future, and say "they do it!". Also, Bachmann and Robertson AREN'T joking, yet he doesn't have a word to say about them.

Glen Beck has proven for a decade that he doesn't do anything that doesn't personally benefit HIM. Sorry, don't take his "leave her alone" seriously beyond allowing him to make "jokes".

/still should have read the whole article

furiousxgeorge: She jokingly said what conservative spiritual leaders seriously say about disasters!  This is an outrage!

Pretty much THIS.  I am kind of on the fence, but again:

a) It takes next to nothing to outrage conservatives, so why should we take this any more seriously than Umbrellaghazi (yes, people died, but then maybe the GOP should choose their derprage more carefully if they want people to give a f*ck)

b) this was satire from a comic, not a shill for the GOP who openly advocates for GOP candidates and therefore should be taxed into oblivion

False equivalency from FarkCons is false.

That's funny - I was around for the Nixon years, and I completely forgot that time when he directed the IRS to perform due diligence to assure that political activists weren't allowed to fraudulently claim tax-exempt status. How odd that I wouldn't remember that.

zeroman987: Pants full of macaroni!!: Bloody William: Obama, because he worked in Chicago and was in politics there, made conservatives obsess over "Chicago-style politics" and paint the entire city as something out of Sin City with unions. It's another phrase they don't understand or think about, just throw it out like it's a magic word to hex liberals.

In all fairness, they've hated Chicago long before Obama emerged from it.  Mayor Daley and all that.

They hate Chicago because it is the city is where the best and brightest people that want to stay in the Midwest go. They are pissed that not only are their kids becoming libruls, but that they are living with ethnic and racial minorities and the gheys. They are also pissed its happening in their own backyard and not on the coasts, which would be easier to ignore.

The people in downstate illinois hate chicago because chicago supports the rest of the state and they resent it. The only people that pay their keep downstate are the professors and the farmers. The rest of the state is pretty much a bunch of out of work factory workers that are on disability or addicted to drugs, or both. Say what you will about chicago, but at least it isn't Illitucky.

PreMortem: Pumpernickel bread: PreMortem: jehovahs witness protection: Liberals on Fark to defend her in 3, 2, 1

See, it's funny because a lot of conservatives think natural disasters are "controlled" by an invisible sky wizard. She was mocking their ignorance, not the death and destruction she had no knowledge of at the time.

No need to defend her, just pointing out the fallacy of this faux outrage.

No.  A handful of crazies that identify with the republican party because we can't stop them does not constitute "a lot".  In the same vein, hurricanes and earthquakes must really hate liberals.

50% is a "handful"?

I'll just change my original from a lot to half.

Did you read the article?  First, it is a huge, and in my opinion misguided, leap to suggest that because one self-identifies as an evangelical or born again christian that one also believes natural disasters are the wrath of a god.  Second, the sample is hardly representative of the entire country, and third, even the article admits those numbers are unusually high.

I stand by what I said - those believing "act of God" are a very small minority.  Also, could just as easily play the guilt by association game with Dems.  I bet that doctor recently convicted of twisting the heads off live born babies self-identifies as a democrat.
