I think the Tumblt gamble will work out.

If they make Tumblr searchable with their engine & combine it with that Summly app, they could have something cool.

Googles page ranking / ad sense policy adjustments will create anger.

I think yahoo is in a good position if led the right way.

/doesn't work for yahoo.

Really? I can't stand it. A good number of people seem to agree.

Care to express a substantive reason?

BullBearMS:Care to express a substantive reason?

With pleasure! (*some of this has been copy-pasted from the other thread.)

- All the functionality (links to contact photos, recent activity, etc) has been removed from the home page and replaced with one giant photo. Very in-your-face, and quite annoying.
- Endless scrolling. Pity the poor folks with thousands of photos in their photostreams... granted, there could have been a more effective way of navigating than by pagination, but this is not it.
- Everything is jammed together. No breathing room whatsoever... it's somewhat of a sensory overload for the eyes. Busy, and visually distracting. Not exactly the thing you'd want on a photo-hosting site - you wouldn't see images crammed together in this way in any art gallery. To paraphrase a user from the other thread, it looks like "a half-assed collage."
- Titles, text, comments and captions seem to be an afterthought. Many photos have a story behind them that deserves to be told, or information to be offered - this is an important part of the user community.
- Collections and sets have all but disappeared - they were once a useful table of contents (of sorts) that could be found right on your photostream's home page. Now they're hidden in the menus above.
- Maps! Where the hell'd they go?

I would have to say that the only thing I miss is seeing part of each photo's caption when looking at someone's photostream. However, you had to go to the individual picture to see the full caption anyway.

A lot of the other functionality is still there. Just not as discoverable. Click the "..." button to find a lot of stuff. It also looks like changes are still rolling out since I looked at it last, so I guess we have to wait for everything to settle down.

So far my complaint has to do with the site being more resource heavy. When you keep a running stream of photos instead of paginating, that's a recipe for eating up memory in your web browser.

All in all, I like it.

Looking at my contacts photos some of them are pissed. :oP
