Was it Largely or was it because Largely? I'm so confused.

How dare the president's spokesmen defend the administration.

What's your excuse, Mo?

Sounds like that got under her skin.

But I'm sure Robert Gibbs listens to Maureen Dowd, because oh gosh she's such a brilliant and witty essayist -- truly the Voltaire of our times.

I don't listen to any press secretary.  Every one I can remember, for every president, has been annoying and hackneyed, and eventually disillusioned with his boss because he's kept out of the loop and only fed talking to points to give to reporters.  They generally quit in disgust and then tell tales later about how they were treated as a mere talking head.  This seems to surprise and annoy them, as difficult as this is to believe.  Many of them seem to carry a belief into the job that they are an actual part of the administration instead of an errand boy.  You would think that, during the recruiting process, administrations would emphasize, "YOU ARE ONLY A DISPOSABLE ERRAND BOY FOR WHICH YOU WILL RECEIVE AN INFLATED SALARY.  DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"

I don't listen to Maureen Dowd either.

I propose Maureen Dowd and Jennifer Rubin square off in a no holds barred essay off for the title of "Least Qualified National Author of All Time"

Rubin by a nose. O'Dowd's columns are inane but Rubin actively tries to undermine intelligent thought in this country.

They must be a covert team since there isn't single post yet using this fallacy.

She's a sensationalist hack (and not a very good one at that).  I don't care what side she normally supports.

Good to see you throwing your support to NY Times writer though.

For once, I agree with both Maureen Dowd and Robert Gibbs.

And then she noted how Republicans are obtuse manly men and Democrats are effete poindexters through a strained metaphor.

If you had to endure 6 years of Arugula, Mustard, Birf Sertifcits, Sekrit Muslin, Keep Old No New, etc, your "defense" would be pretty tired too.

It's "meta."

Part of the conservative mindset, the same part that doesn't do well with humor, is the difficulty in novel responses typically seen in these "no, you!" rebuttals.  We see it all the time here when some liberal meme gets hijacked, the liberal message is marked through with a crayon and "libs libs libs" is written beside.

Was trying to think of what the conservative mind is *good* at and only came up with a single clear answer - bumper sticker slogans.  Conservative ideas translate well into short descriptives.  Of course this is because those ideas tend to completely lack nuance that might bloat the verbiage a tad, but I'll give credit where credit is due.

Well, the right-wing "press" has offered nothing but the same tired attacks on President Obama for the last, like, six years, so what do you expect from Gibbs?

I just don't have a dog in this fight.

Presidential spokespeople are exactly what their name implies - mouth pieces for an administration.

Maureen Dowd is a "journalist" in the sense that a newspaper publishes her column, but she is twee as hell and annoying to read.

I suspect The Washington Post only employs Jennifer Rubin to make Richard Cohen look less ridiculous by comparison. How does Cohen keep his job? My best guess is blackmail.

No, subby, cat fights are only cat fights when the respective cats are attractive.  No one wants, or needs, to watch a cat fight between two non-babes.

So her response to someone criticizing her originality is to lift almost verbatim the accusation and use it against her critic.

Boy, really proved him wrong.  Good lord.  You really have to try to be that stupid.

Gibbs should make the claim that there are WMDs in Iraq and that the Iraqis are in cahoots with Al Qaeda

Maureen will eat that up and distribute it like an ant on spilled honey.
