My manager was chasing after me. I can still see her yelling noooooooooooo in slow motion.

And that's the point in the story where the readers lost their own shiat.  :-)

Hell, even my cat is laughing at that one.  Good on ya!

FlyingJ: Story doesn't make sense...Powerball cut-off in Cali is @ 7 PM, Mega & SuperLotto is 7:50 PM, clerks will

might TELL you it's too late for that night's drawing

Fixed. Why would a clerk at a gas station give a fark about when you buy your lottery tickets? Especially in California.

Yes, but they're for the next week's lottery.

She will be awarded the grand sum of 2 dollars.

If that had been me?

GungFu: These stories are utter bullshiat.

The balls and her numbers matched BECAUSE of all the circumstances of the 'screw up'.

If she had bought them before 8pm and was eligible for the draw, the balls would have been different and she still would have won fark all, most likely.  These stories are reported because the media thinks we should HAHA on people, like everyone else, who didn't win a damn thing, and so feel better for stupidly playing the lottery.

Source was Daily Mail- I don't believe a word of it.

You've got to be kidding me. I've been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It's just common sense

Salem Witch: Many years ago a friend couldn't find anyone to play with on a Sunday afternoon. He decided to buy a lottery ticket with the winning numbers from the previous night drawing.

He started calling friends, telling them that he had the numbers from the previous night drawing. He never said he won the lottery.

He had lots of friends to play with on that Sunday afternoon. And he didn't have to pay for a single drink. No one looked at the date for the drawing.

When he fessed up everyone had a good laugh

/Except for those that got arrested when a bar fight broke out.
//Which surprisingly enough had nothing to do with the fake ticket.

A buddy of mine told me about a guy where I used to work.  This idiot was always pulling stuff to get out of work, so he got the bright idea one morning to buy a ticket with the winning numbers from the night before.  He went in to work telling everyone he "heet that son of of beech", showing the ticket to everyone.  They knew the numbers were right, but nobody checked the date.   He got out of work for a little while, but at the cost of looking like an even bigger idiot than ever.  I wonder where that farker is today.

GRCooper: space1999: I don't get it.  How is it even physically possible to buy an invalid ticket?  The computer should prevent it.  You spend the money, and the ticket is guaranteed to be worthless?

No, she bought a ticket for Wed's drawing, not Sat's

/on the plus side, the odds are just as good for that combo as any other set

I wonder if there's a statistically significant pattern of people picking "recent big winning numbers" in the next few drawings?

Bane of Broone: Vexed Thespian: Guys, the source is daily fail.  Story is bs.  Can you even buy tickets after the deadline?

No, it's legit. Was on the local news here last night.

I've had a few local machines, both attended and kiosk versions, produce tickets for the "wrong" drawing well ahead of the official deadline for the region.

That's bullshiat.  It's a significantly horrible bummer that she managed to have a ticket with the winning numbers AT ALL. She thought she was in the game.  I don't believe that if you legitimately thought that you won that amount of money and then learned that you lost on a technicality, that you would be so at peace with it as to say, "Ah, damn.  My fault.  Let's get some lunch."

No, I think their point is that instead of focusing on 'oh my god I WOULD have won', realizing that is not the case. Had they bought on time, they still would not have wonmost likely because the random number generator wasn't holding those numbers special just for her.

This however does not help the person who plays the same numbers religiously and there have been instances of suicide where someone played numbers ritually, then did not one week...and lo their numbers were picked. :( It's still foolish to fixate on, but I think it is more understandable in this situation.

My grandfather got a lot of enjoyment out of playing the lottery, but he saw it as a dream for a dollar. The fantasy of 'I might win!' was what he enjoyed.

Are my lotto tickets in a state of superposition until the numbers are selected?
(I suppose)
Are my scratch off tickets ?

CruiserTwelve: GRCooper: /on the plus side, the odds are just as good for that combo as any other set

I had this argument with my sister a few years back. She was buying a "pick six" ticket and asked me what numbers she should pick. I told her to pick 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. She said "Yeah, like that would ever come up." I told her that combo had the same chance as any other six numbers and she wouldn't believe me.

So you were trying to reason........................................with a female.....................................and failed.

Imagine that.

I wonder how the odds of winning the Powerball compare to the odds of being abducted and spending the rest of your life in a rape dungeon?

I guess there's always something to be happy about.

Tickets sold after X time are for the next drawing. So she wasn't buying a ticket for that nights drawing, she was buying a ticket for next weeks drawing (or Saturday, whatever). The clerk was a dick for not warning her of such, most clerks will put up a sign especially on large drawing and warn customers if they are about to buy the following weeks drawing.
