zomega: That poor lady with the two kids they're interviewing. I wouldn't even be able to talk after that.
waterrockets: Mom held her daughter in the tub by her hair as the wind pulled her. Damn.
mikebagger: waterrockets: Mom held her daughter in the tub by her hair as the wind pulled her. Damn. That's shock.
mikaloyd: jurzdevil: that lady is pretty badass for walking out of the debris with a chunk of wood stuck in her leg like thatGot t agree. She was straight up calm and going forward despite all the shiat that just happened to her.
LasersHurt: I noted that she said her husband put them in the tub. Where is he?
zappaisfrank: God, is everyone in that neighborhood fat? You'd think so just from watching the footage..
Flying Lasagna Monster: LasersHurt: I noted that she said her husband put them in the tub. Where is he?He was at work, not at home. He was talking to her on the phone.
Popcorn Johnny: Holy shiat, that's a wide path of destruction they're showing on Fox right now.
Almost Everybody Poops: Crap that's a huge fire.
Outrageous Muff: That truly is God's Toilet out there.
Di Atribe: MartinaMcSorley: wxboy: Tornado Emergency for Moore and southern OKC.Is there something very specific about the Moore area that causes more tornado activity there than other places? *Is* there, in fact, more activity there than other places? It seems to happen around Moore so, so often.Tinker AFB was once hit by tornadoes twice in one week.I believe that was some sort of record for most frequent repeat tornadic touchdowns. Today may be breaking that record. Geez. And to answer your question, there are lots of places in OK that are hit repeatedly. There are infamous tornadoes from Edmond, Moore, Tuttle, and OKC proper. There's a reason that the meteorology department at OU is world-renowned.
theorellior: Maud Dib: Never heard of Jarrell, eh?I was having a meeting with a possible business partner in a restaurant when Jarrell happened. All the TVs had footage going. We sat there in stunned silence as the tornado progressed. It was surreal.
jurzdevil: that lady is pretty badass for walking lumbering out of the debris with a chunk of wood stuck in her leg like that
WTF Indeed: Popcorn Johnny: Holy shiat, that's a wide path of destruction they're showing on Fox right now.But enough about Obama's mad power grab...
Di Atribe: Radar shows back-building into Tuttle & Mustang.
ravenlore: How COULD you get a count on destroyed homes when it's all just one pile of debris.
MartinaMcSorley: Yeah, it seems like the best meteorologists come from Oklahoma. I guess I was just wondering if there is some sort of very local topography that makes some places more tornado-y than others. Like, with earthquakes, places that are/were wetlands shake worse than places that are solid granite. So, I was wondering if maybe hills or bodies of water could channel tornadoes into certain areas. Honestly, though, from what I see of OKC, there isn't a hill in the whole state. That place is flat, flat, flat!
ohdoublereally: Dear Mrs. ohdoublereally, here's another frigging reason I don't want to move from San Diego to Oklahoma.
Guelph35: ravenlore: How COULD you get a count on destroyed homes when it's all just one pile of debris.Google maps
MartinaMcSorley: Yeah, it seems like the best meteorologists come from Oklahoma.
Kaeishiwaza: Wow, the helicopter footage is amazing. I've never seen a tornado 'rope-out' and dissipate live, but it was fascinating to watch. If it weren't so awful it would be beautiful.
soporific: "We're not done yet."As if things aren't bad enough with the aftermath of this tornado, now it looks like another one will hit in about an hour.Be safe if you're up there.
