While I think that she is truly a goddess, I just did not see her as fitting into the cookie-cutter blonde stereotype that seems to be most likely to succeed in Hollywood

Agreed. This opinion entirely influenced by my man-crush on David Boreanaz and the chick that plays Fred.

I recently got into a debate over Buffy with my older sister. She's 19 years my senior so there is a healthy generation gap but basically her take is: Movie rocks. Show sucks. Oh such nerd rage came out of me. I told her it would be the equivalent of me telling her that Jane Way was my favorite Trek captain.

In honor of this, for the rest of the day I will randomly add "y" to words, making them adjectivey.

Alyson Hannigan was the star of Buffy, really. She was the character that they obviously spent the most time on writing. She has lots of the best lines, and the single best episode of the series is all about her ("Doppelgangland").

The only redeeming quality about Buffy is that in 30 years when everyone has become their parents you'll be able to see who was the lumpy emo/goth kids in high school by looking at their blu ray collection.

Buffy should have ended with "The Gift" - everything after that (with the exception of a few bits of season 6 (OMWF, Evil Willow) was headed downhill.

Angel was DIFFERENT, and did have some magnificent episodes, especially in the third and fifth seasons. I don't think I would call it better.

FIREFLY, I would call better.

How can you not get choked up at the end of 'Home'?

Because one scene cannot save an otherwise crummy movie.

My two cents on the movie: It was mediocre at best. At worst, it was an example of executive meddling with a brilliant script that wasn't QUITE what people were used to. They miscast both Merrick AND Lothos. (I LOVE Rutger Hauer, but he just didn't work as Lothos. But that could have been the direction and editing.) Amilyn wasn't a threat, but a freakin' joke. And his death scene, the one I assume you're alluding to, while funny, was out of place, tonally, in the movie they were making.

A few years later, Whedon used his script and turned it into a comic, called Origins. THAT is marvellous.

I somethimes think that  James Marsters doesn't get enough credit for playing that role. In my opinion he did a solid job with it.

Most Buffy fans were okay with it dying. In fact, lots of us think it probably should have died sooner. Angel could have used another season, though.

After the first few seasons when her character started to come into her own you could tell that she was the one they had to pull the reins in on and NOT write as much for her.  It seemed VERY easy for them to just let loose with her character while others were getting somewhat stagnant.

With that said it was all farking brilliant and I enjoyed every minute of it.

His work as Spike led to him becoming one of handful (maybe the only one - I can't think of another) of American actors to play a English character on an English TV series

Yes, that was one of the best speeches about death that was ever written.  I always thought that Emma Caulfield should have gotten an Emmy nod just for that speech.  It really made me appreciate her acting ability.

No, I liked the movie... to an extent. But 13 year old me thought it was kind of a dumb movie and I rolled my eyes when I heard it was green lit as a series. Later on I was not surprised to hear that Whedon's original vision for the movie was basically curb stomped by the studio but I was hooked with the series pilot.

As for the movie death mentioned... that was worth the cost of the VHS alone.
