They really, really want to be back in the papers...but yet...notice there are no more war threats coming from them...  Good ol US of A must have buckled to their demands for food aid and whatever else it is they always want.

Why are we not using these launches to field test our ABM systems?

Not that I would consider their behavior justifiable anyway considering all the other kookery they engage in, but do they actually have anywhere else to shoot their payloads? The U.S. has huge, open expanses that they can use to test rockets, but N. Korea, I would assume, has substantially less available land area. Between the ratio of flat to rocky land mass, the population density of the country and the distance requirements for a rocket test, could they really point them anywhere else even if they weren't just being provocative dickheads?

North Korea must know something about surviving a total nuclear war that the rest of the world doesn't, because I can't see them bombing anyone without NK suffering massive number if revenge fatalities.

Wow, they keep on doing this. On top of that, they pissed off China again by taking a Chinese fishing ship hostage. It's like they are trying to pick a fight but do not want to fire the first shot.

Because if they aren't as good as we say they are, we look silly. If they ARE as good as we say, technology exposed and they won't be that good for long.

//This is pretty much the equivalent of NK pissing in the wind at this point. Not sure if anyone really cares at this point.

This reminds me of a friend's little boy who has a hell of a temper. One day he was pissed off about something or other, and managed to work himself up into a frenzy and smash one of his own toys. His mother very calmly picked up the pieces and threw them in the garbage, no eye contact, saying nothing. This made him angrier, so he smashed another toy. Same result. This went on for a while until his mother said, "Look, I can do this all day. But eventually you're going to run out of toys."

No, she didn't replace them.

The Pacific covers almost half the globe.  Law of averages says that in the "shoot stuff randomly into the Pacific" scenario, they have effectively no chance to hit North Korea if the missile falls over on the launch pad

We should really be encouraging them to throw every weapon they have in the ocean. They're just going to put one of their eyes with one eventually anyway.

Yahoo was reporting this morning that these may not actually be missile launches, but instead test firings from a new type of artillery or long-range rocket they are working on.

Brings it a little more into the realm of worry as Missiles = Expensive and Probably Won' be Effective in All-Out-War, while Longer Range / More Accurate Artillery/Rockets = Cheap to Make and Brings Seoul Into Range of Significantly More Weapons

I don't keep up with North Korea's antics outside of stuff like this that is in the news, but the 60 Minutes piece they had on last night about their prison camps was chilling. "Three generations of punishment" is such a farked up concept, I could hardly believe it was really a thing. The interview with the escapee from "Area 14" boggled my mind as well. Being born in a prison and knowing nothing of the world outside to the point that love and family are unknown concepts for some of the prisoners. The people in power in NK are monsters of the highest order and we should be doing everything possible to not placate them (nukes or not) until they change their ways (which I'm guessing will be never).

There's a pretty decent documentary available on Netflix titled "Camp 14: Total Control Zone" which is about that former prisoner's life, both during his time in the camp & after his escape.  Truly heartbreaking stuff.

This idiocy from Best Korea would end today if China closed the border crossings and refused to engage in further trade with them. It wouldn't take all that long for NK to run out of what little food they have, and the army to overthrow Un.

I assume this was the guy profiled? At any rate, a fascinating and chilling read on life inside one of NK's worst gulags.

the only thing that would make this better is if they were photo-shopping aircraft carriers on the water too

There is a whole movie. It is called Camp 14 as I recall. It can be found online at Netflix or through Google probably.
