And the robber pisses himself when opening the purse.

That seems like a lot of work.  Try just saying, "So you're like a size twelve, right?"

Authorities are searching for the man they say stole an off-duty deputy's purse that held her badge and gun at a grocery store.

I sure hope he doesn't do more crimes with the aid of her gun

This is why off body carry is a bad thing. Get a real holster and wear it, don't stash the gun in a bag that can be taken away so easily.

No, bad guys only steal guns from law abiding citizens.

I know cause someone on the intertubes told me.

Yes please: That seems like a lot of work.  Try just saying, "So you're like a size twelve, right?"

This will work, just make sure she's not packing. There's a very fine line between "piss off" and "get shot by" in this state.

.380 Ruger LCP is tiny enough to hide anywhere. Keeping it in the purse was on the stupid side.

This.  If she had actually been carrying her weapon this story would have probably turned out much differently.

I see this little theft "opportunity" all the time at the grocery store.  Woman with shopping cart puts purse in cart; turns her back on it while she wanders away looking for something - voila.

/not a purse-snatcher, personally

THIS.

Even if she didn't shoot, it would reduce the odds of him getting away with a free gun.  Although, depending on the size of the purse, it could take a month to find the gun.

Last month, I saw a woman leave her purse in a refrigerated case at a store.  Turned it in to store staff.  My wife rarely carries a purse, she carries the basics in her pocket most of the time.  When we first met, she was horrible about leaving the house without ID.  It caused issues a few times.

Criminals have finally figured out that a purse is not a makeup bag. It's a wallet holder. Your wife has the right idea about just carrying in what you need to conduct a transaction. Difficulty: womens dress slacks almost never have pockets, and some of us shop right after leaving work so we're still dressed in the foo foo.

/Attention potential ladies pantsmakers: this is an opportunity. Won't somebody clever get into our pants and make them all better?
