He should have changed his name to "Tea Party Sinbad Patriots."  Then he wouldn't owe anything.

Have you forgotten the nineties? `Houseguest' Gives Sinbad A New Home For His Talent

Since his stand-up career has taken off, Sinbad's days of looking for lodgings are over. Recently divorced, the comedian lives alone in a pricey five-bedroom Hollywood home. "Now, I get a lot of people saying to me, `Hey man, I'm coming to L.A,' " laughs the comic during a telephone interview. "I tell them, `Well, I know a nice little hotel down the way.' "

With "Houseguest," Sinbad hopes to join the ranks of Tim Allen, Jim Carrey and Robin Williams, TV stars who successfully made the transition to the big screen.

"Whoopi Goldberg once said to me, `With your energy, it's going to be hard to place you somewhere in the background.' So, I've been waiting for somebody to give me the chance to do my thing. It's taken me 10 years for somebody to say, `Let him go.' On this movie, I felt like a horse who finally got a chance to run. Before, I was in races but the jockey kept holding me back."

After landing a small role in 1991's "Necessary Roughness," Sinbad says he was offered dozens of film roles, but none lived up to his standards -- until Disney chiefs Joe Roth and Roger Birnbaum dangled "Houseguest" in front of him.

"I had the `Ace Ventura' script a year before Jim Carrey. I was reading the script and I'm going, `I could make this really funny.' I went in (to audition) and they said, `You're reading the wrong character.' They wanted me for the guy that Tone Loc played. I said, `No way.' "

I always liked his super-90s wardrobe.  It was all mustard yellow suits with purple ties.

This Simpsons spoof was an approximate Def Comedy Jam comedian, but it's a pretty good stereotype of everything Sinbad wore.

Eh. With John Travolta, Willie Nelson, Jaime Presley, Burt Reynolds, Wes Bentley, Nicholas Cage, Pamela Anderson, The Osbournes, Christina Ricci, Val Kilmer, Lindsay Lohan, Crocodile Dundee and various others all farking around on their taxes, I'd write these off as rich people problems. Or people who don't know how to manage their money problems.

My CSB:

I was at a pharmacy conference about 10 years ago in Vegas, and Sinbad was the entertainment and he was great.  I met him before the show and the man is very tall.  I'm 6'3", and he, I would guess, is 6'8"?

He did a tremendous amount of research and did an hour act on pharmacy.  I was very impressed.

Brian Regan, OTOH, I saw die on stage.  Same pharmacy conference in Vegas, but 10 years later.  Apparently someone told him 10 minutes before showtime his show couldn't even have a smidgen of blue material.  He died.

Well, yeah, white people also default lol, but black people still have cornered the market on "refusing to pay taxes", which is different than just owing them. Nic Cage owes an asston, but he also works in hundreds of crappy movies just to get paychecks so he can pay that off. The trick is that the more paychecks he receives, the more taxes he has to pay lol, so it's a never ending cycle of paying taxes.

Yeah, Hollywood in general is atrocious about paying taxes.  I suspect it's because they get paid in large chunks all at once, and it's a lot more difficult to withhold the correct amount until tax day comes around.  Plus they have to keep track of what goes to their manager/agent and services that count as income, like gift baskets and free hotel stays.

I imagine it's pretty easy to reach April 15, owe several million in taxes, and only have one million in the bank.

Most of these people get in trouble because they either try to do their own accounting or have accountants who won't say NO!!

I remember that Larry King mentioned that he doesn't get in financial trouble because all his paychecks go to his business management firm and they give him an allowance. Helps to level out expenditures and income.

/Never touch the principle.

Back in the late 90's if you wanted to find Sinbad you could always find him at Jinky's Cafe on Ventura Blvd. He always seemed pretty nice and he never hogged the syrup.

He filed for chapter 7 in 2009, and somehow had a worthy enough credit to have four spendy vehicles(well, okay not the bug), and an AmEx card with enough room to get to almost $400,000.  The credit card payments alone are probably around the 10k a month range, and he 'only' makes 16k, plus he still has all his other recent taxes he can't avoid.  Regardless of how much he makes a month, doesn't filing for any sort of bankruptcy take a dump on your credit worthiness for a long time?  How was he able to just wipe clean through bankruptcy and still get Sinbad treatment?

2013-05-20 01:29:19 PM
But is he walking the streets like this or like this?

Actually everyone gets the Sinbad treatment when out of a bankruptcy. Essentially you are a debt free person with income coming in, they literally spill over the walls trying to get you back into that debt cycle.

I think I got 12 credit card offers the week my bankruptcy was finalized
