why isn't the liberal drive-by lamestream mainstream MSM media investigating these fabricated emails? oh, i know why - they came from republicans.

Such a serious scandal you have to fabricate evidence of it.

The internet destroys professionalism in journalism, yet empowers democracy by encouraging citizen activism.

All we need now is a new law to discourage overzealous arsehats from fabricating bullshait and derp.

The current state of the GOP is that they must liein order to "win" any debate/issue......this is what happens when you become anti-intellectual you chicken farkers.

Of course, the right thing to do here is to publically out the source.   Because a)  It would send a message that you're not to be farked with.   b)  It would out an  active and established campaign by GOP staffers to manufacture a scandal to hurt the President.

There were some people really concerned that the White House was the one actually faking the emails. I wonder if they will come into this thread to admit their error.

Both points can be true if the emails came from a Republican White House. Obviously, Bush created the fake Benghazi emails.

/wishes that he hadn't had to learn how to spell Benghazi

So, the smoking gun was so damning to the Democrats that the republicans had to "brighten" it up?

Says a lot about the confidence the right has in this "evidence"

When are the calls for this guys job ala Dan Rather going to begin?

In the process of trying to prove tbat Obama may have changed lanes without signalling, the GOP went 30mph over the limit, ran red lights and stop signs, went down the opposite direction of a one way road and drove drunk while tossing beer bottles out the windows.

Clearly, I regret the email was quoted incorrectly and I regret that it's become a distraction from the story, which still entirely stands.  I should have been clearer about the attribution.  We updated our story immediately.

-Jonathan Karl, ABC News Chief White House Correspondent

Wait, I haven't been following this part really closely, since I'm out of work, and have been looking for jobs more than hanging on Fark(Fark is for when you HAVE a job... :-)  ), but wasn't the "email" actually quoted correctly? I mean, it's not truly an email once it's been doctored, it's more like a Word document at that point, but nothing was "quoted incorrectly", the GOP doctored the document, and it quoted that way.

Or did I miss something here?

No, you aren't getting it. Dan Rather had to be fired because he forged everything himself, it is quite obvious to everyone who was there... This is obviously a case of the emails getting "quoted incorrectly", if you had noticed TFA...

Or something like that. ;-)

What's truly amazing is that people think they can alter digital-era documents and think they can get away with it. The Bush Nat'l Guard papers were one thing, they were supposedly based on originals that would have only had paper originals. It took people who understand things like monospaced fonts to notice something fishy there. Same with Obama's BC, that's also from the pre-digital era. Of course with Obama's BC, THAT took people who are completely deluded, but that's a tory for another day...

The emails have electronic backups of the originals. Not just if someone chooses to save them, but backed up on the server, with all of the original data. How could they have hoped to slip this one past anyone?

Oh look it's ABC's Dan Rather.

Only ABC and the rest of the media are going to let him slide on his overzealous reporting that just coincidentally aligns with his ideological bent.

This was pretty bad journalism.

I started watching less and less of ABC News when they added more fluff and sensationalism.

I'm watching a lot more CBS News now. Scott Pelley always seems to know what he's talking about.
