As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a Jedi. To me, being a Jedi was better than being President of the Galaxy. Even before I first wandered into the cabana for an afterschool job I knew I wanted to be a part of them. It was there that I knew that I belonged. To me, it meant being somebody on a planet that was full of nobodies

They'll have to work in Natalie Dormer for the hell of it. She's been all over the place lately, so why not Star Wars?

Oh good, a British accent to make banal and ridiculous dialogue seem high brow.    We don't get enough of that trick in sci-fi/fantasy.

Now the guy's got Yoda as a partner. Any problems, he goes to Yoda. Trouble with the bill? He can go to Yoda. Trouble with the cops, deliveries, Han Solo, he can call Yoda. But now the guy's gotta come up with Yoda's money every week, no matter what. Business bad? "fark you, pay me." Oh, you had a fire? "fark you, pay me." Place got hit by lightning, huh? "fark you, pay me."

Nothing has been confirmed but it's a pretty fair bet that Disney is not interested in adapting a set of novels when they can do whatever the hell they want.

Bob Fett doesn't get much work anymore, but he's still a nice guy. We do jigsaw puzzles at the library every third Sunday or so. I mean, I still have a life.

That's just silly.

I realize this is purely anecdotal, but he's about my age (older by a couple of years) and I have not met a single person in my generation, raised in a first world nation, who has not watched the original trilogy at least once.

It's going to be just like the new Star Trek movies: generic sci-fi movie with known character names slapped on. Abrams isn't creative enough to do anything else.

Sure, but he's also not watched the vast majority of Star Trek out there by his own admission.  We can tell he liked 80s Spielberg, but that's about it.

There's a big difference between Star Trek and Star Wars to a 70's kid. Star Trek was a thing but it was pretty much confined to the nerd set. Star Wars was a phenomenon unlike anything seen to that point. Remember how the LOTR movies dragged people who had no interest in Tolkein out to see them? Multiply that by about 10 and you have some idea of the cultural impact of Star Wars on my generation.

Again, Abrams was the one that said that not having the fandom and the knowledge makes him feel better about making a franchise movie, while also self-identifying as a nerd in his youth.

Id be willing to make a wager hes already been signed, or at least being considered. After all he has already teamed up with Ford on Indiana Jones...so its a natural...

Ben Skywalker maybe.  I like where this is headed if the rumor be true.  That means they will be gauging the new movies to be in sync with the character ages to the actor ages.

He looks likes he's constantly in the middle of a meth binge. Must be the fish eyes.

Luuke is the only thing that could make the sequels worse than the prequels.

The only redeeming quality of the Thrawn trilogy was Thrawn.  Joruus and Luuke just sucked and unoriginal.  Although Zahn did redeem himself in later stories and he's a nice guy in person, but those names were horrible.

While I like the Thrawn trilogy, there are flaws in it, and the biggest one when considering a new series is that the characters are ALL TOO OLD to fit the Thrawn Trilogy. Clearly, the story will HAVE to be set at least 40 years after Return of the Jedi, which means it's really unlikely we'll be seeing Luuke fighting Luke.

Yes, JRM would be an excellent Thrawn, and it's possible he could still play Thrawn-- Just not in the same story. I would venture to guess they're going to pick and choose parts of the EU, but not necessarily follow it exactly... So expect to see characters from the EU, but don't expect them to be in the exact same situations.

I think we'll probably see the first movie as a "pass the torch" flick. The older actors will do one last show, handing the galaxy over to their kids and younger friends in the process. It's a sure bet JRM is one of the kids, or one of the new villains.

I disagree:

Thrawn
Pellaeon
Mara
Karrde

But yeah, you can trash the ysalimiri, the Force-using clones, and all the other stuff. We don't need Force-negating lizards in the movies.

That's why I think they'll pick and choose all the good ideas from the EU books, and then write stories using those characters but with different situations. Maybe it will be a combination of the Vong invasion and the Thrawn trilogy, or maybe it will be a whole new story with Thrawn and Pellaeon in place as the villains, but not doing anything we've seen in the novels.

Or maybe they'll trash the whole EU and start over with new characters.

The Thrown trilogy takes place 5 years after the original trilogy. The actors are too old to do it. Unless you want a reboot with new actors it just won't work.

Whatever they do it will probably have to revolve around the rebuilding of the Jedi Order. Without Jedi and lightsabers Star Wars is just scifi camp.

Benedict Cumberbatch should be Thrawn if they go that route.  Any one who says otherwise should be punished....severely.
