No, but, they could have just said, "well, he screwed up", instead of going out of their way to justify him standing there like a goof midplay, which could have at least gotten rid of another run against them. He's great, no lie, but every farkin' word doesn't have to be about him, nor do they have to go out of their way to excuse any bad judgment he makes.

But, but, but there is a new stat out there (RBI/HR*wind+steals-Pi^2+MoonPhase*OBP) that says Trout is better.

Miggy didn't lead his team to the playoffs this game so he clearly isn't the most valuable player.

Whichever pitcher got a win was.

I am a lifelong Rangers fan, but really admired how Migs shredded Ranger pitching.  I would take him on my team any day of the week.

All Miggy does is consistently put up outrageous hitting stats every single year.  He hits as a consistently elite level year after year after year.  You just don't see consistency at that high a level from anyone anymore.

Hmm, so, being annoyed with broadcasters gushing like fanboys equals butthurt? Good to know.

Never denied that Cabrera rules the plate, and he seems like an okay guy...but I guess it's awful to expect them to call a game instead of gush over one guy.

since his first abbreviated season, these would be his *worst* numbers from every stat category:

85 runs, 177 hits, 31 doubles, 26 homers, 103 rbi, 56 BB, .292 AVG, .349 OBP, .512 SLUG

as of 5/20/2013 Mike Trout's composite 2013 season projections on rotochamp are:

113 runs, 179 hits, 26 homers, 80 rbi, 70 BB, .296 AVG, .376 OBP, .503 SLUG

2013-05-20 09:48:56 AM
The Tigers better do something to help out the bullpen or they're not going to make it past the first round of the playoffs. Speaking of pitching, I really hope Valverde implodes sooner than later so they can go about replacing him before the stretch run.

Even if you cherry pick Miggy's worst season for each stat category (lowest runs scored total from 2008, lowest hit total from 2004), excluding his first and current season, where he only played partial seasons, his numbers are still great.  And those are the minimum he will give you.

Yes, being annoyed at broadcasters who are amazed at a night of dominance, from a guy who has a career of dominance and is flirting with unheard of historical numbers of back to back triple crown season means you are a buthurt homer. Not pretty, not nice, but true.

Oh, I'm not arguing the numbers with you.

I'm making fun of the fact that, in three sentences, you used a variation of "consistent" three times. The late, great sports blog http://www.firejoemorgan.com/ would often bag on Joe Morgan for constantly saying "consistent", because that was apparently the only adjective he was capable of using.

The best part was towards the end of the run, when they realized that whenever Joe said "consistent", he literally just meant "good." It had nothing at all to do with actual consistency of any sort.

Exactly. If he's still on the roster in August, the Tigers are in big trouble. He needs a couple of spectacular fails now so that Leyland/Dombrowski can see what everybody else is seeing.

The thing that's great about baseball is that good teams can play like ass for a pretty good stretch and still be successful. Like last years version of the Tigers. They played like assholes most of the summer and still made it to the world series.

It really was ridiculous, my TV went on mute after the second homer. I have no issue with Cabrera, he's on my fantasy team and did a great job last night. I don't dislike either of the teams, and thought it was a great game that would have been better if they, you know, talked about the game.

I half agree with you, but for something to crumble, it'd first have to be good. That said, Tiger fielding has been pretty bad for quite a while now, especially at the corners. And you're correct, Cabrera can't carry the whole team. At some point they're going to have to step up defensively.

I'd imagine that they see it, and are just plugging the leak for now. Everything Valverde is throwing is hittable and he's just firing it up there and praying that somebody catches it. I've taken to calling him black Todd Jones.

Indeed I do have the MLB network. I'll have to look for that Quick Pitch show! I don't usually watch SportsCenter a whole lot, despite my borderline obsession with sports (unscripted, better drama than anything you can write, etc). I only watched it last night because the game was an ESPN & I didn't change the channel after the game. I mean, I know Miggy's a cool dude. But if I were in charge (as I should be), I would've done a segment on the game and THEN a segment on Cabrera. And then another segment on that surfing dog because that was awesome.

I'll give you that, and I haven't even looked at the stats but their fielding this year has seemed OK, much better than last year. But last night was a spectacular failure. Tuiasosopo twice idiotically fired over the cut-off man, Cabrera or someone should have caught that ball in left field, and that bunt with Cabrera was retarded

Overall, the Tigers just aren't going well right now. I think I heard somewhere that they've lost 8 of their last 12 or something like that, but they're leading a lot of  offensive categories (runs, average, OBP). Offense will only take you so far - as a Ranger fan, I've seen it over & over.

No clue what Tuiasosopo was thinking on those throws, but whatever it was, it sure didn't help matters.

I kinda knew that little flair into left was gonna fall. It sure seemed like Peralta had the best line and was going to catch it, but Beltre is in one of those stretches where just about everything he puts in play either finds a hole in the D, or goes over the fence.

The bunt in the 7th just looked like total pants-on-head confusion. I don't think they had a clue that was coming.

That was the gist of my issue, as well...the commentary, before the aforementioned "night of dominance" even began, was all about Miggy, not really the game itself. It's just as silly when the local networks would go on and on about Napoli or Hamilton, as though nothing else in the game mattered and the rest of the team was just support. Sure, his hitting performance was amazing, but, as we saw last night, that's not always what wins a game...but you wouldn't know that Detroit lost at all, according to SC.

Murphy's homer was spectacular because of it's timeliness and the fact that he's not their biggest hitter at the time being, but yet, it might have had all of two seconds worth of mention.
