That one hailstone looks EXACTLY like a grapefruit.

2013-05-19 10:04:32 PM
Is there some other place they typically fall from?

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves: That one hailstone looks EXACTLY like a grapefruit.

There's only one explanation... the storm originated in Florida and stealthily moved northwest to Oklahoma before dropping its deadly, frozen payload.

What happens when you get caught in a storm with just 1" to 1.5" hailstones.  He got off easy, his buddies had broken ribs.

why is it they always say the hailstones are bigger than what they really are? None of those are the size of a grapefruit. Except the actual grapefruit.  Like we can't see they are all smaller than the grapefruit.  They always say "golf ball sized hail" when it is really about the size of a grape.  Are these the same people that come up with the street value of illegal drugs?

In 1998 we had hail the size of the one on the back-right of the photo.  Which isn't very unusual itself until I point out this was in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania!

Grapefruit size hail killed people on Wednesday in Texas when our tornado outbreak occurred here south of DFW.

You might want to get your eyes checked because that one in the front is pretty much the size of that grapefruit behind it.

I'd be a lot more worried if they had been propelled out of the ground.

Might have been grapefruit sized when it fell. Probably melted a bit before the picture was taken.

I just drove a rental car through a pop up monsoon in eastern Iowa, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.
Sideways rain, winds at 70mph, not very fun, but I made it. Now the hail can fall all it wants, because, hey, it's a rental car, and the thought of returning one with all of the glass smashed and dents everywhere amuses me.

Nasty!  We escaped without bruises when 1/2" to 3/4" stuff came down on us but we quickly managed to get partial cover from some trees.  We were still being hit but not at full force.  Just about froze our asses off, though--we were dressed for a summer afternoon!

Never , in 20 years, in NY.
