You know that Palin never made the Russia quote, right?

Does this mean we've been invaded by the Russians? Holy crap, Romney was right!

super_grass: You know that Palin never made the Russia quote, right?

She said:

"They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

Which was the basis for the SNL joke.

And in the interview with Couric, there was this:

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there, they are right next to our state.

So no, she never said she could see it from her house, but she said a lot of stupid faux-folksy crap very similar to the SNL joke, which is why it was so funny.

"During the trip the team encountered dangerous situations including a large chasm in the ice which initially seemed impossible to cross. As they pondered what to do however the ice suddenly shifted, temporarily bridging the gap. Quickly the men revved the engines and charged across not a moment too soon, as only two minutes later the ice shifted for a second time, re-opening the chasm they had only just crossed."

I think this conclusively proves that god wants Russia to invade the North American continent.

You're idiots.
What actual scientist are saying, is that over the next decades, the North Pole ice cap will be increasingly thinning during summer. The pole is expected to be completely free of ice cover during summer around 2050.

Except for articles that were published by the ICC and NASA showing that the Arctic was already ice-free as of Summer 2008. Which conveniently disappeared down the memory hole right after Obama was elected.

No, in the spring and early summer of 2008 it was suggested that the North Pole and immediately surrounding area might be ice free for a brief period in late summer that year, but obviously feezing over again during fall and winter.
Nobody claimed that "global warming had melted all the ice" in the Arctic, particularly not in March-May, and nobody is claiming it now. And there's your idiocy.
The Pole is expected to be ice free every summer, from around 2050 onwards, maybe earlier.

Which conveniently disappeared down the memory hole right after Obama was elected.

The pacing could be a little better, but the overall concept, the way the film was made (at least one major, completely unexpected plot twist, maybe more depending on personal opinion), and the little high-concept stuff like the floating stone head that was a god that shoots guns out of its mouth (how can a god be more badass?!) while saying things like "The penis is evil, it shoots life; the gun is good, it shoots death" (or words to that effect). Yeah, great movie.

It also had Sean Connery in a red diaper almost literally chewing the scenery.

Everyone, go watch it now if you haven't.

Says the guy who agreed with jjorsett that it's been claimed that "global warming has melted all the ice up there", and then started talking about a memory hole and Obama.

Nobody has claimed that all the ice has dissappeared from the arctic, or will disappear in the forseeable future. There is general concensus that we're only decades away from the Pole, not the entire Arctic, beeing icefree every Summer, which is in August and September, not year round, and certainly not in the dead of Winter and early Spring.

There have also been conditional predictions of possible scenarios ("It may be free of ice this Summer, if the conditions are right") that missed the mark, but none that predicted that all the ice would be melted during winter.
