YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS TO LEAVE! 1... 2... 3... (why is no one moving) 4... 5... 6... (oh crap what if this doesn't work) 7.... 8... 9... (oh crap this did not work what am I going to do now?) 10... (I know, I'll grab the nearest girl and try to cuff her!)

There's a big lawsuit coming to whoever hired her.  Generally having a security guard attack someone for no legal reason makes the lawyers piddle with glee.  Too bad the woman she attacked really didn't know how to damage someone (nice takedown though).  A couple of headbutts with that helmet would have settled things quickly.  Hopefully the woman who was attacked files charges, the 'mall cop' mentality needs stomping on whenever it shows up.  It would have been really funny if the mall cop had somehow managed to get the cuffs on her so she could then add false imprisonment to the growing list of charges.

The fat guy at the end was kind of puzzling too by jumping right into things without even slowing down to see what was going on or asking the MULTIPLE people standing there laughing.  Doing that can quickly get you into a situation that you really don't want to be in.

However what I'd REALLY like to know is what was everyone looking at in the first place that got the little psycho so pissed off?  They were standing on the side of a public road so trespassing wouldn't apply.  If it was some super secret .gov/NSA installation, the 'mall cop' would be a LOT more intimidating & the cameras would have been put away (with real cops standing there too agreeing with that idea).  The whole thing is just really strange.

If you end up in a confrontation with a mall cop that was instigated by the mall cop and you end up beating the crap out of the mall cop as it appeared in the video, even thought the mall cop may have legally been in the wrong, your case probably isn't worth a whole heck of a lot from a damages standpoint. And, if you inflict more harm than is considered reasonably necessary to defend yourself, you could be looking at a counter suit.

If it was in fact mall property (private property), mall cop should have just called the real police and had them arrested for trespassing

But that isn't nearly as funny as the 'Respect my Authority' routine.

/Video just needs one little thing more - threat of being banned from the mall.

I'm pretty sure you're allowed to fight back and still claim self defense.  That would be the defense part.

Yeah really. She's not a cop, where she could just assault you and if you try to defend yourself you get a "resisting arrest" and "assaulting a police officer" added to your rap sheet as she taser and pepper spray you.

Oh look.  It's another thread on fark where all the miscreants get to despise cops.  Meanwhile, she's not a cop.  She's just some minimum-wage flunkie who chose a security officer uniform over the burger-flipper style many of you probably wear.

Each time one of these threads pops up, I can't help but wonder how I've managed to live 56 years without ever having a run-in with the law.  Not saying I've never needed them.  But EVERY time I have, the police were kind, courteous, and efficient.  Of course their are individuals who suck at their jobs.  But that happens in every walk of life.  It just doesn't make the news.

/ What number do police-hating farkers dial in an emergency?

Right, because just because the only recourse you're afforded in an emergency if you don't want to be called a vigilante is to call the cops, then you need to just STFU no matter what they do. Got it, Citizen.

I live in an upscale neighborhood.

On weekend nights there are Porche, lambo's and other high end and classic cars that Cruise.

My buddies and I like to sit at the side of the road (about an acre away from the house) and watch the cars go by on lawn chairs with a half case of beer.

Every time we do this a cop stops and asks us what we think we're doing. It's gotten to the point now where I have the police cheifs personal cell number and I call him as the car pulls up and hand the phone right to the officer as he gets out of his car.

/ It's my property
//I've proven it time and time again
/// Just cause I'm 15 years younger then the avg owner of property here doesn't mean shiat (issues started when i was 25 years younger then the avg owner)
////fark you officer, i'll use my property anyways I see fit within the bounds of the law

I'm 'trolling food court for girls
Yeah, it's the best job in the world
They know they're safe with me
They love my little mustache
They love a man in uniform

With my sunglass they can't
See what I'm really looking at
And as they're walking by
I whisper through my doughnut
Hey baby, baby light that ass on fire

How long must this day go on?
I got to stand here two more hours till I
Punch the clock
How long must this day go on?

No kid, they don't give me a gun
I don't get paid enough to run
So you can call me what you want
I'll be hanging at the check out
Checking out your girlfriend
Figure out how she's going to fit all of that
Butt into that underwear - yeah yeah

Hey girl if you can't recall
Where you parked your daddy's car
Then I could help you out
All alone in this
Great big mall...

The minute we as a nation start to cower away from anyone that starts screaming at us from a position of authority. Is when we have truly lost our rights as free citizens.

That being said, if you look at the maps they were standing on the ring road around the mall (private property) and she was in the right to ask them to leave the property. She approached it all wrong! Once they refused to leave she should have called in the real law to have them arrested for trespassing. Still would have been a bad PR move for the mall, but much better than what happened. I realize that they may not want people taking pictures inside the mall, but outside the mall not even pointing toward the mall, where a truck had run off the side of the highway? Really. I doubt that the area where the truck wrecked would be considered mall property. More than likely still on the highway easement? But they were standing on mall property taking pictures posing an obvious risk to security?? I doubt it!

Hector Remarkable: That security lady just snapped. She just...snapped.

She didn't handle the situation appropriately.  That's for sure.  Then again, she's not a police officer.  Any farker with a pulse can get a job in 'security'.  Takes more than that to become the real thing.

2013-05-19 02:49:42 PM
Ok, as the resident Private Security expert here on Fark, I feel obliged to comment.

The Security Officer involved managed to do everything wrong she possibly could have.

1. She does not have the right to confiscate anyone's property.
2. She did everything possibly to escalate the situation (screaming, aggressive gestures, etc.)
3. Challenging another citizen to fight
4. Fighting with said citizen

What she should have done:

1. Call for back up and a Supervisor
2. Politely ask those taking photos to stop because of mall policy. If they continue to take photos, instruct them to leave the property and explain if they do not, they are trespassing and Police with be called.
2. If they continued to take photos, call for Police, once Police arrive, explain that these citizens are trespassing and have violated the mall's policy on photography.
3. Collect information on the trespassers for possible Civil action (Police will usually assist with this)
4. If the subjects left before Police arrival, record license plate and vehicle descriptions for possible Civil action and for Police reports.

And with regard to Security Officers carrying handcuffs, any citizen is allowed to carry them. Any citizen that witnesses a crime and chooses to detain a subject for Police may use " a reasonable amount of force" to protect themselves until Police arrive. If the case goes to civil court, a Jury would decide if the citizen used "reasonable force" by using handcuffs. If it turn out you used handcuffs in a manner considered other than reasonable, you (or a Security Officer) could be changed criminally with Unlawful Imprisonment.

In a nutshell;

This video will be used as a "what not to do as a Security Officer" for years to come.

Really? I'm an Ontario Provincial Police offier. Got to tell you, the only one acting like a "jerk" was the mall cop. I would have laughed myself silly if she'd spoken to me like that. She has zero authority, and yes, she's probably in the right to tell people they can't be there but she exercised poor judgement in handling the situation. The best she could hope for is to ask them to leave, and then call 9-11 asking for police to come and either ask people to leave or charge them with trespass (and there's a big "if" in trespass).. In Ontario, we go through lots of testing to weed out the wannabe's, morons, and people who have issues. She probably wanted to be a police officer, but couldn't pass the basics. Thank God she wasn't armed. One of the things I learned quickly, is to keep cool, stay calm, and not blow small situations into major problems. That was like a training video of what not to do.
