"No guts"? Do you believe bravery to be a criterion for deciding to cancel a show?

And yet, David Cross did 3 Chipmunk movies for Fox. After they cancelled Arrested Development.

Well at least they get to the point where they're putting out great TV, David.

David Cross's douchiness renders his comedy rather impotent.

Which he justifies by saying it pays the bills and allows him to do other stuff he couldn't afford to do otherwise.  Such as the disappointing Todd Margaret show, which he says he lost money on, but because it was largely his own money he was able to do things his way.

I'm a huge fan of the show and I've been excited about the new season since I first heard about it but there's been so much hype surrounding it that I find myself almost ambivalent about seeing it. Is that weird?

/I'm a lot more excited about the new season of Venture a week later.

This. I love his stand up act and albums, but some of the stupid, hypocritical shiat this guy says during interviews......

FX is a different animal, they have more guts than almost any other channel, they consistently put out good TV. Then again, Fox is still good compared to the other networks.

I read an interview about that. He said he has no qualms about doing paycheck movies so he can afford to do more meaningful roles. Can't fault someone for taking care of business.

What an ungrateful punk.

Fox aired the show for 3 seasons. Which was 3 seasons longer than ABC, NBC, CBS , AMC or HBO aired it.

It's a business, not a charity. Don't get anally devastated if your show doesn't achieve the ratings necessary to justify its budget and the network decides to replace it with a show they believe would do better.

Many of the shows that FX airs, they put up very little money, but offer a huge back end deal for. Therefore they pay the shows almost nothing but give them a huge part of the profits so the only way they make money is putting out a quality show. They (FX) have little risk on shows, while the talent might not make money up front, but if they create ratings they get paid.

It's no surprise to me that Fox dumped one of their best assets.  It wasn't reality TV or "gritty urban" crime drama.  That's about all the networks can do now.  The key part of the story is that Cross knows he can burn his network TV bridges; it's not likely that he'll be a host on America's Got Whargarbl or make a series of appearances as victims or villains on Hardcore Detective Vice: Special Repetition Unit.

When people finally have had enough of the exact same crime drama show, and the exact same reality shows, the networks will have nothing to fall back on.  I don't know what they'll evolve into at that point, but two things I'm pretty sure about, 1) it won't be pretty and 2) it will mean the networks shrink even further.

You know, Cross was in a recently-released movie called It's a Disaster that I wanted to see;  it appears that the studio buried it.  Never showed up around here.

I thought Cross was being douchey and hypocritical, but I think his argument holds up.  Cross did some bad gigs so he could do some good gigs.  Fox should have done the same; broadcast their bread-and-butter drivel and take some of those proceeds to support less-popular but higher-quality fare.  Shows like American Idol bring in enough dough that shows like Arrested Development can survive.

You do some lame stuff so you can do some good stuff.  Simple give and take.

Oh please. They gave Arrested Development three farking seasons to find its footing, and yet it never did. David Cross has no farking reason for slamming Fox on this, they just didn't deliver in terms of ratings. Nathan Fillion could complain about Firefly, David Cross has no rights to.

Oh and plenty of great TV shows on Fox as well, subby.

Arrested development is a shiatty show with shiatty, has-been actors. The writing is as unfunny as it gets. Don't understand why they brought it back.

I try so hard to get in to these shows that Fark adores but I just can't do it. Arrested Developement, Firefly, Dr. Who. I just don't get it. Thou I will go as far to say A.D. was at least amusing, I just didn't care to keep watching it. Firefly and Dr. Who thou? The love for these show is just far beyond my simple caveman brain.

David Cross is an absolute dick.

I still regret not breaking his jaw outside the Congress Theater in Chicago several years ago when my wife had the audacity to say she loved Mr. Show.

He's maybe 5' 8''... a soft 165 and got right in her face. He must be bi-polar or something.  He screamed that he had a show that night and not to bother him with shiat from the past.

/really regret just pulling her back and moving her behind me.
//she still likes him
///I hope to be in an elevator with him and his new wife some time so I can scream in Joan of Arcadia's face and ask him how he likes it

But, Cross will be on Fox real soon...he is playing douchey prosecutor Bernie de la Ronda in the George Zimmerman trial. His problem is that Zimmerman has better attorneys than Barry Zuckerkorn and Bob Lob law....

They do not exist for the purpose of promoting anyone's art.

It's not that I disagreed.  What you said was so sillypants that you must simply be trying to elicit an emotional response.  If you're serious, that just makes it funny.

It's just silly to say that one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past twenty years never found its footing.  I've never seen Firefly, but I can tell from the fan response that it was pretty good.

Unless you're equating ratings with quality...

It never found it's footing, that's why it was just hemorrhaging viewers. It started at 8 million for the premiere, and it had 3.4 million viewers by the series finale. Those numbers would be bad on farking NBC. Considering how much more viewers the rest of Fox's shows were bringing, Arrested Development was incredibly lucky to be renewed once, twice was almost a miracle.

They never managed to attract enough viewers, and that's why the show had to be cancelled. Fox were right to do what they did from a Network standpoint, and I say that as a fan of the show.

With all this biatching and complaining about Fox that has gone on for so long that the Simpsons were joking about it at least a decade ago, I really have no pity for anybody who is surprised that their show was cancelled.  Yes, even the Arrested Development crowd.

They didn't walk into that thinking that they were going to be the exception.

Oh, and if you really want to insult Fox, it's "they had guts" not "they had no guts" because otherwise you are making canceling AD look like the easiest decision for them to make, and if it's easy for a broadcast company to stop broadcasting your show, that makes me think your show sucked.
