Seriously, you can't argue for nearly 5 years that natural born means on U.S. soil and then just conveniently toss that argument out the window.

Cruz is not blah.  That's all they need to know.

And the article conveniently glosses over the fact that in addition to pissing off Dems, he's done a fine job of pissing off his own party to the point where he's going to stop getting appointed to committees if he keeps the derp up.

You can't? I'm pretty sure this is what the right does on every single issue.

Trust me.
No democrat in their right mind will object in any way what so ever to Cruz running.     In fact, I think many will encourage it.

Subby, why in the name of all things holy do you actually believe the birth certificate issue was about citizenship. It's always been about Obama's blackness. This is just the 1 millionth confirmation of that.

I'm an anti-Republican independent and I approve of this guy wasting money on a Presidential primary (he wouldn't even make it through that).

This is precisely why people tend to believe this is about race and racism--even with a Cuban guy. Can you imagine the crap they said about Barack Obama with a white candidate?

You're probably right, but I wouldn't want to see the United States be forced to reject the right man or woman for the job because of an arbitrary rule. What if President Obama was born in Kenya and had not been elected president. We might be suffering through eight years of John McCain (who was born in Panama, on US territory).

Well surprisingly there weren't to many birthers in the comments.  Some but not nearly the amount that Obama attracted.  I'll just pull out some comments that show the loons are still out there:

Yes, but Obama is not a human being and that makes all the difference in the world.  Plus he was not raised as an american, he was raised as a foreign communist.

Obama was not eligible. Cruz is. Point being Ann Dunham, Obama's mother gave up her citizenship, Lived outside the US , and her child, Obama was born during her time as a non-citizen, in Kenya. The Hawiian birth certificate, and his SS card was photoshoped, forged, to indicate his legal status. This has been proven over and over, and independantly verified by experts.

Stop?!  Why is this man ON any committee?  He's a freshman.  First, you let him do all of the FNG stuff, like wash your car or do your laundry, and if he gets re-elected, then you think about putting him on something.

Of course, Warren is a freshman, too, and frankly:

He has the "people skills" of a snapping turtle. He may be legally eligible but he is too much of an obvious asshole to win enough votes. People claim he is intelligent, but pissing off everybody, including a lot of members of his own party, doesn't seem like smart behavior. I seriously doubt he could stand up to the scrutiny of a national election.

There was actually a much better argument that McCain was not a natural born citizen than there was for Obama.

The argument being, for the record, that the State Department does not recognize a military base as "American soil" for the purposes of birth. Plus, at the time of McCain's birth there was a bit of a legal question about citizenship at birth for those born in the Canal Zone, even to American parents. It was a big enough question that congress passed a law retroactively granting citizenship a year after McCain's birth.

I'm not saying McCain wasn't eligible, I'm just saying that the bizarre legal gymnastics the birthers went through over Obama should have been applied even more to McCain.

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER: You know what? If he is the best man for the job, I wouldn't even care. I just want the best president available.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you, completely.  The problem I have with the Republican Party is that currently there is no trust.  With all of their deception, back-stabbing and general, anti-workers bullshiat I really can't trust that they have my best interests at heart.  In fact, I believe that they don't.

Back in the day, Republicans and Democrats actually worked together and negotiated to pass laws that benefited workers, benefited capitalists, and in general helped move society and this great country forward.

They don't do that anymore and I don't see it happening again until the Earth is invaded by aliens.

The behavior of the Republican Party has been such that I needed to leave and identify as an Independent.  And I most likely will until aliens make an appearance on the horizon.

So, why should I even think that Mr. Cruz is possibly the best candidate?  (Serious question.)

I remember  the thread from the other day that said the US was one of the least racist countries on the planet. I remember thinking then just about the same as what i'm thinking now after reading this article (and remembering all the birther BS). Either that map was either complete BS or IF it is correct and the US is the least racist country on the planet, then we as a species are completely farked in the head when it comes to race.

Or we could just acknowledge that the birfers weren't right about Obama, either, and that he, as well as McCain and Cruz, are all natural born Americans.

Bring it, Cruz...I wanna see you and Paul tear the GOP apart while you fight to see who loses to Hillary.

2013-05-18 12:45:13 PM
Cruz was born in Calgary, and his father is from Cuba. But the Republican senator's mother is from the first state of Delaware, which appears to settle the issue.

See, Cruz is OK because his mom is from the Fist State of Delaware. Not like Obama's mom who was from Kansas, that Johnny-Come-Lately 34th state.
