As a white hetero male, I'm really ok with the fact that I'm "oppressed". I have it pretty good in life, possibly in part thanks to the fact that I was born into the white hetero male club. I haven't had doors opened to me because I'm a white hetero male but at the same time no doors were closed and I've never been subjected to anything I would consider unfair or racist. So... go ahead. I have it plenty good enough that I can deal with it.

WTFdoesitmatter: bunner: Could somebody essplain why all of these multi-factional, fragmented, oppressed types desperately need the assistance, approval, endless positive reinforcement  and unwavering and unquestioning respect of the very people they say are oppressing them?

Because if they were taught the value of self-sufficiency and independence, the people that manipulate them would lose their control.

But if they already know enough to say "I'm getting the shaft", shouldn't they know enough to stop banging their tin cup at their shafters?

You would think so, but the benefits of remaining "oppressed" seem to outweigh the advantages of casting aside the yoke. I compare the situation to livestock on a farm - once they figure out why the food and facilities are provided, it's too late.

Further proof that "diversity" is simply a code word for being bigoted against straight white males.

Rincewind53: Eh, I'm okay with that. I actually do tend to agree that having a white, heterosexual male in charge of diversity sends the wrong message.

So you are ok with hiring practices on the basis of race , gender and sexual preferences.

Correct. And let remember that this fellow, as a white heterosexual male, is the member of a minority at Northwestern.
What a bunch of pious hypocrites. It's disgraceful.

Are you farking kidding me?  A farking Inclusion Task Force?  Does this mean I should be on the lookout for "the war on not being included"?

Mambo Bananapatch:
Not difficult at all, as long as you wear a label around your neck announcing your preference. Otherwise I have to guess, or start every introduction with, "Are you coloured, a colored person, Negro, African-Canadian, or how about I just call you by your name?"

Start with the name, that will do. Why must I be classified for you to acknowledge that I exist?

No argument here. That was actually kind of my point.
